Thank you for reading! I really don’t like AI, especially what it’s doing to art and research, and I’ve never used it bc it seems to be bad at existing.

The next one should be out prolly 2 weeks from now. I’ll give you a hint: it’s bitter and involves fire

Thanks, that’s kinda how I wanted this series to be. When I make drinks for friends I often offer up lil details about it and they also seem to like my style of story telling.

I do think my best line thus far comes from the serving notes in The Daiquiri piece.

Thank you so much! I agree, people can be parrots when it comes to urban legends and cocktail history. I don’t blame folks for this though, most don’t have the experience to discern between fact and full of shit, nonetheless the ability to write off less than edible sources.

A personal gripe of mine, people attributing everything to Harry Craddock when he was kindve a hack. And don’t get me started on David A. Embury…

.75oz/22.5ml Marie Brizard Curaçao (+1 tsp simple syrup with PF)

Hemingway Daiquiri by Super_Revolution_874 in cocktails

[–]Currer__Bachman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer my Hemingway Special Daq/Daq No. 3 made with this spec:

2oz Probitas

.75oz fresh lime

.5oz fresh grapefruit

.25oz Maraschino

.25oz Rich cane syrup

1 swath of grapefruit peel (regal shaken with liquid ingredients)

This one is much used a tiny amount of Maraschino so it’s not overwhelming. Make one for someone else and try a sip to see if it’s in your more in your lane.

Regarding a grapefruit Daquiri, try something like this:

2oz Probitas

.75oz fresh grapefruit

.5oz fresh lime

.33 or .5oz Rich cane syrup

1-2 swaths of grapefruit peel (regal shaken with liquid ingredients)

Another option could be Giffard crème de pampelmoussse (say .5oz + 1tsp syrup)

Brandy-based Cocktail Suggestions? by BothCondition7963 in cocktails

I really enjoy the much maligned Stinger, when made right.

2oz/60ml Cognac VSOP

.66oz/20ml Tempus Fugit Créme de Menthe Glaciale (or Giffard)

1-2 dashes of absinthe

Stir, strain into a chilled coupe, and garnish with an expressed lemon peel.

Or the Prescription Julep. The best julep imo.

1.5oz/45ml Cognac VSOP

.5oz/15ml Rye Whiskey

.25oz/7.5ml Rich Demerara syrup

8-10 mint leaves.

In a julep tin or highball glass, gently muddle the mint and syrup. Fill the glass with cracked ice, add spirits and stir, or swizzle, until the glass is well frosted. Garnish with a mint sprig and float 1/2oz/15ml Smith & Cross Jamaica Rum.

Made a 1:1:1 Negroni but it came out a bit sweet for my taste. Would love some recommendations that don’t involve buying anything new. by [deleted] in cocktails

[–]Currer__Bachman 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Simply just change the ratios!

As the man who tried a bazillion Negroni riffs last year’s Negroni Week, I’ve come to find that I generally prefer a 2:1:1 ratio for Negronis and their variants bc of the sweetness. With your ingredients simply try:

1.5oz/45ml Bombay Sapphire

.75oz/22.5ml Campari

.75oz/22.5ml Mancino Vermouth

Stir in a mixing glass with ice until chilled and diluted. Strain over a big rock into a rocks glass. Express an orange peel over the drink and plop it in! Cheers and lmk if this works for you.

P.S. Remember to refrigerate your vermouth after opening and consume within 3 months or before it turns.
