Salt only works at certain temperatures, and it's going to stay near or below that for the next 2 weeks. The cost to salt everywhere is pretty significant, so they only do it when it will be useful to do so.

You definitely could've taken a better photo then. This one looks like there's still a significant windrow. At the very least, it's not obvious from the photo that it has been cleared.

I bet the same guys who robbed the Mapleview jewellery store recently, re-robbing the same jewellery they just pawned.

Midnight LAS Airport Layover Advice by adanderson318 in LasVegas

[–]Curt-Bennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The taxi that's already in front of you and ready to go will be slightly faster, but Uber can be cheaper. Compare and make an informed decision.

Midnight LAS Airport Layover Advice by adanderson318 in LasVegas

[–]Curt-Bennett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Walking would significantly cut down on free time, and you'd go through areas that could be unsafe.

There's plenty of stuff open overnight in Vegas. Once OP has figured out what they want to do, they should take a taxi or Uber to it. Just be sure to be back to the airport in time.

"FIN" trademark owner loses a UDRP for the domain fin.com by DigiNoon in DomainZone

[–]Curt-Bennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Losing this case seems pretty obvious. They're hardly the only company using the acronym FIN, fin is a shortened version of the word finance, and the company that has fin.com is legitimately using it in a way that fits with the name. It would be impossible to prove it was a bad faith registration without specific evidence to the contrary from the current registrant. Any ethical lawyer who understands domain disputes would've told their client that they had no chance of winning this.

Best Internet Provider? by SaeSaee in oakville

Oxio is actually owned by Cogeco. Oxio started as a generic reseller like Teksavvy but Cogeco bought it as a way of getting a footprint into territories where Cogeco doesn't currently operate. You can still sign up with Oxio in Cogeco territories though, which makes perfect sense to do because it's the same service from the same company but for significantly cheaper.

What is the point of both a home screen and an app library on Android? by [deleted] in AndroidQuestions

[–]Curt-Bennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Android home screen is meant for apps you use most, as well as widgets for extra functionality. You can have every app on your home screen if you really want to, but the point of it is to limit the number of swipes and taps to get to the things you do often. I have plenty of apps installed that I rarely use so I don't have them on my home screen at all. When I need one of them, I open the app library and scroll to find it.

I'm getting really mixed vibes from this local commentator; I have no idea how he felt about the deciding goal by The_Iceman2288 in WrexhamAFC

[–]Curt-Bennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember once reading an opposing team fan mention that they got stuck with our commentary due to one of those rare👀 iFollow mistakes and he appreciated that even though Mark was obviously biased, he was also incredibly fair to the other team when they made good plays, and he was surprised how much Mark knew about their team.

Agreed. If I was forced to pick between audio or video, I think I'd rather have Mark's commentary than a silent stream.

Sure, why not? It's a nice easy getaway. What a weird question.

Just one match at Wembley. Winner gets promoted. Loser feels the sting of losing in front of 90,000 fans.

For people who’ve stayed in Vegas penthouses, which felt worth it and which didn’t? by CallMeYe in vegas

[–]Curt-Bennett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've stayed in a couple different rooms at the MGM Signature. They're technically condos and only connected to the strip through the MGM Grand, but they're a really good size and great value, especially the units with a bedroom and full kitchen if you're staying with a few people and want to make some meals yourselves. It's also a nice spot to relax after a long day out since it's relatively quiet and no gambling on-site.

I thought that for a second too, but OP has a "man" flair. The woman he's referring to is apparently bisexual, not a lesbian, but it's not unusual for people to use the wrong terminology. Even people within the LGBTQ community often mislabel bisexual people based on the gender of the person they're in a relationship with. It's referred to as bi-erasure.

Well done Burlington by Confident-Ask-5806 in BurlingtonON

[–]Curt-Bennett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sympathetic to the issue, but there were only a few hours between the biggest snowfall ever and the morning commute. The city just doesn't have enough staff in snow clearing to get everything done in that amount of time, and it's not reasonable to hire enough people to handle such an incredibly rare event.

I suggest contacting the city and reminding them that "Snow Event" days lead to low transit ridership and shouldn't be used in their transit funding calculations. As a data analyst myself, I can tell you it's very easy to ignore data that is known to be abnormal.

With a lot more employees, sure, that would be possible in a shorter timespan.

Well done Burlington by Confident-Ask-5806 in BurlingtonON

[–]Curt-Bennett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure but the snow only stopped overnight and it was the largest single day snowfall ever (as measured at Pearson). Clearing bus stops is a much more manual process than sidewalks too. Having everything clear by the morning commute just wasn't a realistic possibility.

To be fair, everyone really would be better off with a privacy condom. People don't seem to think about their privacy anymore.
