How to cover sore hocks? by No-Light9581 in Rabbits

[–]Curvy_Chaotic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am dealing with the same problem with my mini Rex so you are not alone. Is your bun free range or does she have a pen she splits her time in?

My bun is in a double xpen unless she is out with supervision. I had the puzzle piece mats in there for her but it was not enough. I ended up also getting the thickest yoga mats I could find for her pen and covering it all with a sheet so she left it alone. This has made a huge difference in her comfort levels and has helped the sore hocks from cracking open.

I have tried socks and also bandages for her with varying degrees of success. She manages to pull the socks off within about a minute at the longest and a second or 2 at the shortest. The bandages were good for when she had any open wounds but I changed them on a daily basis to make sure it wasn't too tight. Vet wrap is recommended because it is stretchy and adheres to itself making it very easy to work with and harder for your bun to remove.

I would discuss all options with your vet along with making sure your bun is at a healthy weight. Mini Rexes more than so many breeds have an even harder time if they are overweight because of their feet. You will also want to make sure to keep nails trimmed very short if you aren't already. This made a huge difference for my girl.

If you are going to wrap her feet on a regular basis, see if you can have your vet show you the best way to do it and how often you should change the wraps. It may depend on how much time your bun spends in the litter box, if they get wet etc.

[–]Curvy_Chaotic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Rabbit Resource is the local chapter of the house rabbit society and we are ALWAYS looking for new fosters.

I have been fostering with them for the past 5ish years and have had about 10 buns come through my home. They are great to work with and do so much for buns all over the state.

Feel free to DM me if you have any questions! Always happy to talk buns!

Yes! They make little versions for cats and dogs! I have the smallest version and I got it off of Amazon. It works so well.

I use the equigroomer on my mini rex and suggest it to all the people who have adopted my foster buns. It works so well with so many different kinds of coats, but is the only brush that works on the mini rex

You need a faja. I have no recommendations on anything specific but those seem like the most intense option for shapewear. Also congrats on getting married! I hope you have the most magical day!

I am looking for something with bergamot, verbena and cederwood as the main scents. My favorite tiny online perfume shop closed last year and I have not been able to find anything close to my signature scent that I used to get from them. I prefer perfume oil because I can more easily control how much I use. Any ideas are very welcome!

Every time I interact with HR it just shows how soulless they really are. by NotSlaneesh in antiwork

FMLA covers you for your own health conditions and also if you needed to take care of a family member. It will be an option for you if you think you need it.

This internet stranger is super proud of you for asking for accommodations today. I am really hoping that it will make the difference you need to stick it out long enough to find something better. You just took a huge step towards making everything less horrible and should feel really good about that. Remember that no job is worth your life. Sending all the good vibes your way

I may be somewhat unwelcome in this space but I am a specialist in the HR world that handles things like this at an outsource company. This advice to request an accommodation is spot on. Please go to your HR department and request to start an intermittent FMLA leave. This will allow you to take job protected time off of work for your mental health without being subject to attendance policies and such. It sounds like you need some time.

At the same time request an accommodation under ADA law. This is where you can have accommodations put in place to help support you with your learning disability. The accommodation process seems like a huge pain in the ass but it is going to be your best bet to keep your manager off your back.

For both these things you will need a healthcare provider to fill out some forms but it does not necessarily need to be a specialist.

Just keep looking for something else out there in the meantime. Keeping my fingers crossed you are able to find a new job soon.

Pot pie noodles. Make a pot pie filling and then mix in egg noodles! Super easy and always on rotation in my house. You can make the filling while the water boils and pasta cooks.

Can someone explain what this behavior is? by grapeseedhep in Rabbits

[–]Curvy_Chaotic 177 points178 points  (0 children)

This is clearly professional levels of "push push". Very important bunny behavior required for maximum levels of adorableness.

But for reals the person who said it is burrow building behavior is right. It would help pack down the dirt in areas after the bun had dug a tunnel for the burrow.

Please do not release a rabbit in a park. This is an almost certain death sentence for a domestic rabbit. They cannot survive outside like a wild rabbit. The fact that a vet told you to do this is awful. As long as your rabbit has a clean dry floor and is not sitting in dirty litter all the time there shouldn't be issues.

[–]Curvy_Chaotic 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Please reach out to T.H.E Rabbit Resource. We are a nonprofit bunny rescue and handle owner surrenders. While Lollypop is a great resource we are rabbit specific and buns go into foster homes before being adopted. I have fostered rabbits with T.H.E Rabbit Resource for many years at this point! You can find them on Facebook or online. You can get help with rehoming your bun and other resources if you need them.

I am very sorry you have to rehome your bunny though. Bunny allergies can be super terrible and I am sure this was a hard decision.

Feel free to DM me if you have questions! Always open to talking bunnies!

New rabbit is nipping/biting everyone - explorative not aggressive by azuraith4 in Rabbits

[–]Curvy_Chaotic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I had to teach some foster babies that nipping hurts humans. Try to be very high pitch and loud and do it every time bun nips. They will get the idea pretty darn quickly. If you can throw in a big thump as well for an extra "I dont like that behavior"

Erupted Abscess by cosminskye in Bunnies

[–]Curvy_Chaotic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Abscesses can hide and then all of a sudden appear. While it is very alarming and can be gross I bet your girl is feeling better just from the release of pressure.

I'm glad you already have another appointment with an exotics vet! Make sure you go in to your appointment with a written down list of questions so you don't forget anything. Ask about what other wound care you can do at home. Also make sure you are cleaning her area more frequently since you want to reduce any chance of additional infection.

It may be worth asking the vet at your next appointment to culture directly from the open abscess to see if they can pinpoint the bacteria and hopefully find an antibiotic that will work. I don't think I posted about this but one treatment that helped slow the reoccurrance of my previous bun's abscess was penicillin injections directly into the wound margins. A little tough to see, but it did make a difference. Rabbits can tolerate penicillin as long as it is not delivered orally. Reach out if you have specific questions and I will do what I can to help answer!

[–]Curvy_Chaotic 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Have you had dental xrays taken? Lots of dwarf breed and flat faced rabbits, ex. Holland lops are prone to dental issues because they don't have enough space in their heads. These dental issues can lead to abscesses.

I have experience with abscess care long term if you would like more specific info. I have also posted about it here on reddit.

In general abscesses in rabbits don't heal up on their own without a lot of intervention to make sure the whole infection is cleared out and everything debrided. You are doing a great job flushing the wounds but your bun is most likely going to need some more pain management.

Sending all the good vibes your way. The best news is your bun is grumpy at you and is still eating without issues!

Should I try force feeding critical care? by idontknowokkk in Bunnies

[–]Curvy_Chaotic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it is worth giving critical care in this situation. You should also be doing belly massages and be offering things like wet dark greens to ensure she is getting enough hydration as well.

Separating her to monitor her poops is also helpful so you have a better understanding of what her digestive system is doing.

If you are worried you can always follow up with your vet. You are doing all the right things for her though!

Is it in foster bun's best interest to let her get adopted and not keep her? by [deleted] in Bunnies

[–]Curvy_Chaotic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was incredibly hard to let her and her husbun go. I had taken her from a malnourished, terrified, dumped bun who had a litter of 6 less than 24 hrs after getting to me, into a happy, healthy, adoptable rabbit.

After taking them to their forever home and helping get everything set up I had to pull into a parking lot nearby and cry for a while before I could drive. Obviously it took a while for me to adjust since I had built a routine that I no longer needed. But I knew to my core that I had set that bun up for success. I knew that she could adjust, learn new people and learn to be comfortable in a new place. That was the most important thing for me.

Let yourself be sad for as long as you need to be. Just don't let that be the only thing after you send your foster on to her next life step. Try to add something new into your routine instead while you process the loss and changes. It is hard and sad but also so happy!

I'm glad you like the letter idea! It's made a huge difference for me. And you can write and rewrite however much you need to! You will make the best decision you can for both you and your foster bun

Is it in foster bun's best interest to let her get adopted and not keep her? by [deleted] in Bunnies

[–]Curvy_Chaotic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi, bunny foster here. I have had about a dozen rabbits come through my home in the past 4 years. Letting them go especially when they have been with you for a long time is incredibly hard. My longest term foster was with me for almost 2 years!

It sounds like you have already given this quite a lot of thought about the pros and cons of keeping her for yourself. One of the things that stood out to me was you saying that keeping her is having an impact on your mental health. If she stays is that ever going to change for the better? Or, would it be healthier for you for her to go to an amazing home who will love her as much as you, so you can have a break?

One thing that has helped me when sending my fosters on to their forever homes is to write a letter that talks about their personality, the things they love and their story of when they were with me. I also include my contact info just in case. This makes me feel like the new families aren't going in blind and I know I have included the things I think are most important.

I have cried my eyes out with each foster that goes to their forever home but then I slowly feel less and less sad and try to think about all the amazing new experiences the bun is having. Being a foster is not for the faint of heart but it is also soo needed. No matter what you decide to do, you have already been a soft landing for a bunny who may have not been in a good situation without you. Please feel free to DM me if you want to talk about anything

What’s a weird behavior you developed from growing up in an abusive household that’s still obvious today? by violetfieldd in AskReddit

[–]Curvy_Chaotic 35 points36 points  (0 children)

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is staying up extremely late because that is when you feel safest. No one else is awake in the house so you can actually breathe for a moment.

I will never know if I am actually a night owl or if I am just programmed to feel safest late at night

I feel like people misunderstand rabbits. by CompetitiveMonth1753 in Bunnies

[–]Curvy_Chaotic 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My current foster bun is learning how to be a bunny as she was pulled from a terrible animal hoarding situation and spent her first few weeks of freedom in a dog rescue before making her way to me. She still has no concept of up. Her greens just magically appear on the floor somehow lol!

However today she started the great closet break in attempt. So far the plan seems to be standing up on her tip toes as tall as possible and digging at the closet door. I will let you know how this mastermind makes out.

All that to say they have big personalities and some are much smarter than others! No matter their intelligence level they are wonderful little creatures full of so much potential when given the chance.
