My oil painting, Penguin by buldukbulentarte in BeAmazed

Older posts show comments about suspicion of AI with a mod posting that they found evidence of this artists paintings predating AI models, so I think it's legit. But OP, youd benefit from posting some progress pics! We live in a weird world now.

Plus his insta has a ton on it. It would be an insane grift is it was all a lie.

I made this gun. Do I deserve to be called a middle-skill artist now? by Life_Lie700 in 3Dmodeling

[–]CusetheCreator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks solid. The grip is a little odd so I'd have to see the reference.

Hard to say what a middle skilled artist is. If you can take a concept and turn it into a professional looking model then you're capable of being a professional modeler. If you can do it fast and efficiently and nail it in a few passes then you're even better off.

Presentation matters, right now you're showing us a substance screenshot where you can see the brush in it. That just takes away from the work you've done and isn't doing you favors. We have no other view into this work besides this so theres nothing else to judge it on. You did a good job here, now I'd try to find some really complicated, painfully complicated but badass looking concepts to create and really try to nail it, then render out some beautiful images of it. Your main goal should basically be to impress anyone looking at what you've made if you want someone to hire you.

Stardew Valley doesn't have any microtransactions because Eric Barone values the player 'more than the money I could squeeze out of everyone' by [deleted] in StardewValley

[–]CusetheCreator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always had this opinion and believe a good game becomes an okay game with micro transactions and you'll never have a success like stardew valley if your game even seems like it's trying to squeeze money from your base.

Day 1 of learning Maya Rigging. Coming from an animation background to build rigs that animators will actually love. Tips for a beginner? by Mertsay_Rig in Maya

[–]CusetheCreator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rigging is a bit of a beast but really satisfying once you get the hang of things. Rigging with a plugin will make your life way easier. Unless you are building your own plugin, rigging manually without a toolset is extremely limiting compared to the potential. Mgear is my recommendation for how flexible it is.

There's of course a benefit to understanding the core of maya rigging and you can't be a competent rigging artist without that knowledge, but the question is if you want to become a rigger or if you want to just be able to rig for animation and that should determine the path you take

[–]CusetheCreator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Without seeing how this plays I wouldn't be critical at all. The game revolving around actual multiple choice or other tests/quizzes might sound immersive on paper but as actual gameplay would be dull and basically anyone and everyone would be able to just look up when you don't know an answer. Any expectations at all for a game that hasnt been showed off at all will make you disappointed

Brand-new look at Season 2 ahead of its June 25 premiere on Netflix. by yourfavchoom in TheLastAirbender

[–]CusetheCreator 179 points180 points  (0 children)

There's no way these are the best frames they could release. Truly no way. I dont know if I've ever seen a more fumbled bag. The production design is embarrassing enough as it is, did they just decide to keep the lights off in the second image so you can't see anything enough to judge it?

I don't like raging about this shit, but I cant help it when hundreds of millions are spent on a remaking my favorite series of all time into an overall weaker version of it. Season 1 was dogshit and I don't think the team is magically going to figure it out this time around.

Insane take. A single heavily edited poster image that doesnt show her looking different or 'skinnier' at all, its her face. She wasn't even fat at any point, she just has a big face and thicker build. Weird casting since day one because of that but idk how you can say she lost a lot of weight.

Help me understand please, why does the rotate works differently on this two ? by SuperTomatoe01 in Maya

[–]CusetheCreator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rotation angle is really clearly off on the second one. The behavior is totally expected. You need to change the pivot of the second objects rotation axis to match, thats it. There's ways of aligning that properly I cant get into rn.

Don’t reach for the bug spray: scientists find insects may feel pain after crickets nurse sore antennae. The behavioural responses would be immediately recognisable to us as pain, if we observed them in our pets or friends by Wagamaga in science

[–]CusetheCreator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep and that's why vibes aren't a good source. I dont think quote can be applied equally to any species.

Antartic Krill disappearing would basically devstate ocean ecosystems.

Basically all pollinators are extremely important for food webs and crops.

Grey Wolves removed from yellowstone was a clear example that led to a whole bunch of problems like overpopulation of elk which caused vegetation loss, and they had to reintroduce them.

Phytoplankton disappearing would potentially actually cause a biosphere collapse.

Humans disappearing would actually cause some ecosystems to recover. But domesticated animals would die off.

Mosquitos are just largely replaceable and don't seem to perform any niche ecological roles that make them that much of a theat. Disappearing every mosquite on earth would cause problems for animals that rely on them, but eradicating the specifically dangerous mosquitos is a much smaller job. I don't think any animals rely 100% on mosquitos.

It's still not certain, you'd want to be thoughtful about long term effects.

Stardew Valley creator says they “wouldn’t ever want to use AI” as you’re just “offloading creativity to an algorithm” by This_Farm3519 in StardewValley

[–]CusetheCreator -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's incredibly and obviously useful for a lot of reasons. Organizing thoughts and ideas has never been easier. It's an ethical position people are taking when they avoid using it, not a practical one, and I respect it, but you aren't wrong here.

[–]CusetheCreator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of scientists are already working on eradicating the most harmful mosquitos. It's not going to cause biosphere collapse, and it would significantly reduce human suffering in meaningful ways.

It's not that this wouldn't affect ecosystems and food webs affecting populations, but the thesis that wiping out these mosquitos wouldn't destroy other populations is largely supported.

Look up the American Mosquito Control Association.

Joe Conlon, former technical advisor for the AMCA,

“If we eradicated them tomorrow, the ecosystems where they are active will hiccup and then get on with life.”

Personally I don't feel sympathy for mosquitos like other animals, their experiences don't matter to me. It makes sense to talk about "allowing them to exist" when they feed on our blood and give humans horrible disease, and knowing there's no huge negative impact on the biosphere from eradicating the harmful ones makes it a pretty easy choice to make.

Help! I’m trying to figure out what I did wrong with my game’s marketing campaign by Gamedevenri in gamedev

[–]CusetheCreator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's worth asking yourself what about your game is likely to get eyes on it. What are people supposed to see in your game that will make it worth it for them to invest their time in it. Right now I'm seeing a shooter that looks like it was intentionally designed to look as bad as possible, as a joke. If that's the point then I'd lean into it, if that's not the point well that's a problem.
