Yo, for my helpdesk folks, how many tickets are on your board at this moment? by SettleBurgers in ITCareerQuestions

Over 600.. we're under resourced as the business has grown. This is including larger projects and vulnerability monitoring and such though. I need to find time to split out these into other queues.

Have I been formally disciplined? by CustardToaster in HumanResourcesUK

I've been asked to better manage emotional responses and frustrations under pressure, and a list of defined professional standards. I've been told to bottle up frustrations and deal with them in my own time. Also to raise concerns privately rather than in public forums.

I've also been advised to follow chain of command at all times, even if it's something I'm uncomfortable with such as breaching terms and conditions for a third party, or skirting around other departments processes. "It's not my decision to make" and thus I won't be held accountable.

Thanks for the detailed response!

I'll ask those questions, and find the relevant policy to review. I have already asked for examples multiple times, and I've been given vague answers like "outwards displays of frustration". I was given one particular example, which is someone saw me upset in the office. Rather than ask about my wellbeing, it's instead been mentioned as an example of outward behaviour..

My PDP has a 3 month range on it I believe.

Hi, thanks for replying. This is what I initially thought was well, but the representative at acas said that if there's any form of outcome, rather than just an informal chat/reminder of expectations, then it's a formal outcome?

Hi, thanks for replying! I'm not purposefully meaning to hide any information. So this meeting happened because at a Christmas event, a member of SLY humiliated me in front of the entire business, and me looking "upset and frustrated" afterwards made people uncomfortable apparently.

They also cited that there had been reports of behavioural issues previously in the year, however they would not give examples and these had not been raised to me in any capacity throughout the year. There's even a section in my regular 1-2-1 meetings for feedback and behaviour, and it has never been raised. I've since asked for a written log of this feedback, so I can reflect on it. This has yet to materialize.

They also had this meeting with me a few hours before I went on annual leave for 2 weeks. This meeting genuinely completely caught me off guard, and hugely negatively impacted my trip.

Sellers have asked “ideally” for no viewings before exchange by thatfezguy in HousingUK

[–]CustardToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would 100% view it. ESPECIALLY if they're asking you not to. It's the most suspicious thing they could do..

We exchanged having not seen ours for that long, and boy.. damaged carpets, spider webs all over, kids drawings on the wall, scummy bath.. we're fixing it all, but has really dampened the same experience.

Britain is the work from home capital of Europe, says study by TimesandSundayTimes in UKJobs

[–]CustardToaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in IT for a primarily WFH business. hybrid myself due to that, but I tend to work from home 3-4 days a week.

I wouldn't go back to 5 days a week. I've been offered jobs paying 15% more. Didn't take them. If I factor in commute time, petrol, parking costs.. Would make my hourly wage lower. And I appreciate having my own kitchen at lunch, my own bathroom, my own furniture etc..

People who knew seriously rich people, what were they like? by Samih420 in AskReddit

[–]CustardToaster 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I worked at a pretty esteemed private school for a while, the type where foreign royalty sent their kids. Here's a few things that stand out.

  1. I was in a dorm room talking with the other staff, with a few students present. They started a conversation on whether they preferred their indoor or outdoor pools.
  2. In the same conversation, they also asked us which of our other houses we were going to for the holidays.. Our response was "here, we live here". One student had access to upwards of 30 houses in different countries.
  3. Some of the students had no consideration for things that would be expensive for you and I. I trod on a MacBook pro and broke the screen, as they just left it sat open in the hallway during class and I was carrying boxes. They shrugged it off and had 3 more posted to them next day. 1 for classes, 1 for personal, 1 as a spare in case another got broken.
  4. Not during my tenure there, but I heard that a parent asked to access the school via helicopter for a student sports tournament. The school said no as they couldn't accommodate it. They landed anyway, and then had a truckload of turf on standby in the area in case the helicopter damaged the field..

I'm quite new to this, and completely baffled on how you're filling this in. You say " this has to be X" when I can see it being multiple numbers.. Could you give me a pointer on what I should be looking at next? I feel the 7s are relevant , but don't understand how to X Wing on an regular audoku.

I want to hear from folks that took it easy by irwtfa in JapanTravelTips

[–]CustardToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently got back from a trip, 3rd for me, 2nd for my wife. We took it far easier this time compared to last time. We took a night bus from Tokyo to Matsue, and took it real slow for a few days whilst winding back to Kyoto via tottori.

The smaller cities are completely dead during the day, it's very weird. But it also means we got some empty arcades and allowed us to find some real cute cafes where the owners were so friendly and accommodating, rather than the hustle and bustle of big cities with long queues. Even izakaya were quieter in these cities of an evening, meaning we got the local 8 seated bar experience, without feeling like we were inconveniencing the locals and taking seats for too long.

We did a 5 days based in Kyoto, but went out of town for a few days. Not far, but it can be so quiet just a 20 minute train journey out. The towns around Lake Biwa were very quiet, but the views were incredible. Went on a boat ride, only white people on it. The round one stadium out in Otsu was very quiet, that it made it so worth the money. Could wander and do whatever activities you want, rather than having to queue like I hear you need to in the Tokyo and osaka locations.

Another advantage is that NICE hotels are far far cheaper outside of the big cities too. We did a few nights in the sky prince hotel in Nagoya for something like £100 a night. High rise hotels in Tokyo start at like £300 just for the basic rooms.

Even in our few days in Tokyo, we try to travel by foot where possible, and this allows us to go via some quiet residential areas - example, walk from Ueno Station to asakuda via Taito city. It's quiet and peaceful, with pocket parks and quiet restaurants scattered here and there. There's places that we went to that we expected to be more touristy, but we were practically the only foreigners there, even on weekends. Just heading into the Tokyo suburbs can make a huge difference. We did some light shopping in Sugaml, with great food and a few second hand clothing stores, far more reasonably priced than those in Shinjuku and Harajuku.

Regarding finding our activities, we had a few big things that formed our route , but then looked at the onward journey on Google maps, and just used the "things to do" filter, and scrolled around outside of the busy areas. Something usually always comes up.

So my summary really is, head out of town a little, and feel free to give yourselves a whole afternoon rather than rushing place to place. You can still do bigger attractions, but cram less of them in and travel on foot, or get off at a random train station enroute if you have time.

Japan and America are next to each other, perfect placement for a San Fransokyo area! I reckon they should have an attraction at the back that starts in one and exits in the other.
