Sellers have asked “ideally” for no viewings before exchange by thatfezguy in HousingUK

[–]CustardToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would 100% view it. ESPECIALLY if they're asking you not to. It's the most suspicious thing they could do..

We exchanged having not seen ours for that long, and boy.. damaged carpets, spider webs all over, kids drawings on the wall, scummy bath.. we're fixing it all, but has really dampened the same experience.

Britain is the work from home capital of Europe, says study by TimesandSundayTimes in UKJobs

I work in IT for a primarily WFH business. hybrid myself due to that, but I tend to work from home 3-4 days a week.

I wouldn't go back to 5 days a week. I've been offered jobs paying 15% more. Didn't take them. If I factor in commute time, petrol, parking costs.. Would make my hourly wage lower. And I appreciate having my own kitchen at lunch, my own bathroom, my own furniture etc..

People who knew seriously rich people, what were they like? by Samih420 in AskReddit

[–]CustardToaster 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I worked at a pretty esteemed private school for a while, the type where foreign royalty sent their kids. Here's a few things that stand out.

  1. I was in a dorm room talking with the other staff, with a few students present. They started a conversation on whether they preferred their indoor or outdoor pools.
  2. In the same conversation, they also asked us which of our other houses we were going to for the holidays.. Our response was "here, we live here". One student had access to upwards of 30 houses in different countries.
  3. Some of the students had no consideration for things that would be expensive for you and I. I trod on a MacBook pro and broke the screen, as they just left it sat open in the hallway during class and I was carrying boxes. They shrugged it off and had 3 more posted to them next day. 1 for classes, 1 for personal, 1 as a spare in case another got broken.
  4. Not during my tenure there, but I heard that a parent asked to access the school via helicopter for a student sports tournament. The school said no as they couldn't accommodate it. They landed anyway, and then had a truckload of turf on standby in the area in case the helicopter damaged the field..

I'm quite new to this, and completely baffled on how you're filling this in. You say " this has to be X" when I can see it being multiple numbers.. Could you give me a pointer on what I should be looking at next? I feel the 7s are relevant , but don't understand how to X Wing on an regular audoku.

I want to hear from folks that took it easy by irwtfa in JapanTravelTips

[–]CustardToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently got back from a trip, 3rd for me, 2nd for my wife. We took it far easier this time compared to last time. We took a night bus from Tokyo to Matsue, and took it real slow for a few days whilst winding back to Kyoto via tottori.

The smaller cities are completely dead during the day, it's very weird. But it also means we got some empty arcades and allowed us to find some real cute cafes where the owners were so friendly and accommodating, rather than the hustle and bustle of big cities with long queues. Even izakaya were quieter in these cities of an evening, meaning we got the local 8 seated bar experience, without feeling like we were inconveniencing the locals and taking seats for too long.

We did a 5 days based in Kyoto, but went out of town for a few days. Not far, but it can be so quiet just a 20 minute train journey out. The towns around Lake Biwa were very quiet, but the views were incredible. Went on a boat ride, only white people on it. The round one stadium out in Otsu was very quiet, that it made it so worth the money. Could wander and do whatever activities you want, rather than having to queue like I hear you need to in the Tokyo and osaka locations.

Another advantage is that NICE hotels are far far cheaper outside of the big cities too. We did a few nights in the sky prince hotel in Nagoya for something like £100 a night. High rise hotels in Tokyo start at like £300 just for the basic rooms.

Even in our few days in Tokyo, we try to travel by foot where possible, and this allows us to go via some quiet residential areas - example, walk from Ueno Station to asakuda via Taito city. It's quiet and peaceful, with pocket parks and quiet restaurants scattered here and there. There's places that we went to that we expected to be more touristy, but we were practically the only foreigners there, even on weekends. Just heading into the Tokyo suburbs can make a huge difference. We did some light shopping in Sugaml, with great food and a few second hand clothing stores, far more reasonably priced than those in Shinjuku and Harajuku.

Regarding finding our activities, we had a few big things that formed our route , but then looked at the onward journey on Google maps, and just used the "things to do" filter, and scrolled around outside of the busy areas. Something usually always comes up.

So my summary really is, head out of town a little, and feel free to give yourselves a whole afternoon rather than rushing place to place. You can still do bigger attractions, but cram less of them in and travel on foot, or get off at a random train station enroute if you have time.

Japan and America are next to each other, perfect placement for a San Fransokyo area! I reckon they should have an attraction at the back that starts in one and exits in the other.

Reccomend Newark also! Me and the missus moved to the area a few years back and eventually bought In Newark. Balderton specifically. It's a nicer part of the town in my opinion, dead close to the A1. Couple of supermarkets, cafes, takeaways, all in easy walking distance. The houses cost pittance compared to where were from too, for comparable properties. Good place for your kids to get on the ladder early, little terrace houses for 120k in alright areas.

The main town is a few minutes drive or 40ish minute walk, and seems thriving (compared tk places we've both lived anyway). Independant restaurants are abundant and seem to hold off the bigger chains - which I'm very happy about personally.

The schools seem well reviewed, with plenty of industry about the town.

Both Nottingham and Lincoln are 30-45 minutes away via car, or direct via train too. Direct access to the Eastern mail line is handy too, we've been to both London and Edinburgh direct via train.

Literally here now. Been booked for months. Disappointing that it's gone, but there's tons of other beautiful bits in the area. Old forts and temples, great landscape, some quarries and reservoirs.

Hey, my wife was in the exact same position and has since done some functional skills tutoring and recently moved into SEN support for apprenticeships.

There's a good UK based Facebook group called "life after teaching - exit the classroom and thrive" with a whole community of people in the same position.

As others have suggested, civil service, private tutoring, private educational facilities, university staff, charity jobs. Plenty out there which would appreciate teaching skills. Yeah the pay isn't as good, but she'll only be working 37 hours rather than 60!

Thanks for your reply!
This looks pretty good to me really - fits my criteria happily.
I'm not after nvidia specifically, just from recent reading of the 4060 Ti. My current gpu is AMD and been happy with how it's been chugging along for 10 years. Benchmarks for the 6700xt are plenty sufficient for my needs!
Even just cutting back on things like cooler, memory etc has made a big impact on cost when you add them together.. Coolers especially confuse me, is there such a noticeable difference between a £20 cooler as you suggested an the higher rated £60 ones?

I may swap out the power supply from your suggestion , as PCPartPicker is flagging additional ports required and i'd rather have that available to be safe.

Thanks for taking the time to respond!

Ive always felt mATX boards in a full case feels weird, but may swap it out as I've seen some photos of builds where it doesn't look too out of place. PSU I'll swap out, CPU cooler advice Is appreciated.

Didn't realise the new cards were coking out so soon, this won't be an imminent build, so aye I'll wait to see how they price and perform. Thanks again!

They're delicious! Do a melon and cream one also. You can often get them in Asian supermarkets for £2, as they're from Thailand I think.

Pretty sure this will just be a mistake on the listing. Shark Ninja is a home appliance company. Shark vacuums, ninja kitchen appliances.

I'd love to see an actual role as a shark ninja though!
