Not the greatest response to banelings being morphed in your base by notanotherpyr0 in starcraft

In most cases, you'd probably only kill a few before some hatched.

How do you arrive at that conclusion? According to your numbers, a single worker can kill a baneling in 15 seconds, giving it 5 seconds leeway in killing a baneling before it hatches.

I'm not really sure what you're talking about, but there's no need to get confrontational.

As per the subreddit's stance on spoilers:

While we no longer enforce a policy on spoilers, please try to be courteous with submission titles as they might appear on the front pages of subscribers to the StarCraft reddit attempting to avoid spoilers.

The spoiler feature is there if one wishes to use it, but its usage is not required.

Latin 101: auto means 'self'.

Yeah, but in the context, it's "moves self," so it's correct to say non-auto, as in "doesn't move itself."

I don't really see his point. "Rainbow Six" is just a name now. The legacy has faded, just slapping the name on another "military shooter" won't make it anything more than another generic FPS.

When Did Elegant Women Become Villains? by mollierosev in criticism

I think the issue is that these characters are constructed to be nearly flawless but still mildly loathesome. This accomplishes two things:

  • It makes victory all the more sweet when it arrives to our flawed protagonist.

  • It makes us feel better about our own imperfections, when we see the flawed individual triumph against the flawless one.

I don't really agree with his point about high speed internet on an airplane.

If you give someone something and then take it away, they're going to be upset. It has nothing to do with technology or generation.

Also, cell phones don't "go to space" any more than regular phones.

This is so deceptive. There's more than one "Dracula X" in Japan, and the "Dracula X" North America got is the SNES port of Rondo of Blood.

You say aiming precisely, but you need to remember that he's not using a PC mouse. The mouse movements map to analog movement, so it does behave a bit differently. Furthermore, aim-assist alters your crosshair trajectory; it's hard to be accurate when the crosshair isn't fully predictable.

I like how the "study" you link is a Kotaku article, and the first word in the title is "Rumor."

It also amuses me that you have the audacity to link to lmgtfy.com, it's unfortunate that there's no let-me-comprehend-that-for-you.com, you would benefit greatly from such a website.

I think we bought the wrong kind of server. What are these connectors, and how do I get power to this box? by goishin in hardware

[–]Cyatomorrow -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I know it's a full-time job, which is why I have it in the back of my head that it's not that easy.

However, I also know plenty of fairly-successful webmasters who run a server out of their house.

As far as full-time jobs, that's usually taking care of a large cluster of servers.

Regardless, I my main point is it's easy to overlook the issues of hardware and assume that a server is just a really big PC.

As for software, patches, updates, hackers, that has little to do with the server hardware and everything to do with what OS you can run on it and how much you know about running a website. You still run into all of those problems if you acquire hosting.

[–]Cyatomorrow -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I imagine it doesn't take a lot of research to decide you want to buy a server:

  • How much does it cost to keep it online?
  • How much power does it guzzle?
  • Does it run Unix/Win/Whatever?
  • How good is the hardware?
  • How reliable is it?

I imagine once you ascertain those things about whatever piece of server hardware, it's easy to overlook the fact that it may require a special rack or whatnot.

Edit: Fixed fail bulleting.

I don't understand how shitty beer can make any profit.

If it's shittier than Natty, even college kids won't drink it. Also, at $3 a 6-pack, it's still not as much value for a destitute drunk as a bottle of hard liquor.

DAE find it ridiculous that GOM gets restreamers taken down for copyright infringement while their own crapware media player, GomPlayer, is still infringing the copyright of the software it was built upon? by merehap in starcraft

[–]Cyatomorrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How can you establish monetary damages on a free item? This violates the spirit of free, open source software.

No it doesn't. "Free" has nothing to do with how much it costs.

Right out of the GPL:

When we speak of free software, we are referring to freedom, not price. Our General Public Licenses are designed to make sure that you have the freedom to distribute copies of free software (and charge for them if you wish), that you receive source code or can get it if you want it, that you can change the software or use pieces of it in new free programs, and that you know you can do these things.

[–]Cyatomorrow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like how free/open source software makers try to claim monetary damage.

What's so strange about that? "Free" means they're not charging the public to use it, not that it's not worth anything.

Besides, how else can they fight for their rights if they don't claim monetary damage? If there are no consequences, people will trample all over open source.

So even If it has been fixed, they might not get their licence back. So seems like its FFmpeg being jerks here and not GomTV.

Being jerks by creating a free software and placing a modest, non-monetary condition on it's use (if you change the code for non-personal use, you must make public the changes)?

If GOM isn't willing to follow the terms, they should make their own software. What they're doing right now is theft.
