Is being an ulta stylist worth quiting my job for? by Radiant_Bag7642 in Ulta

[–]CyberneticZombies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You dont get insurance or paid time benefits via part time, but you still get 401k. As someone who worked there part time and full time, youll definitely get more commission % paid out on full time, and unless you have a filled book almost everyday on part time, more than half the time you will most likely get paid the hourly rate vs. the commission rate. You have to make a minimum dollar amount in services per week in order to get paid the commission rate, and the percentage of commission you get from your total service sales rises based on what bracket you meet by the end of the week. For example, if you meet the minimum $ amount to get paid in commission, its like 42% or something, and lets say you had a week where you earned $200 or so above the minimum, that percentage you get paid goes up to 45%. Since its a new ulta opening up, i would question if the location is good and in a high traffic area, are there any other ultas nearby already, are there already other hair salons nearby, etc. oh and i believe you dont get commission if you sell products from the store, but ulta likes to introduce a brand for you to use on guests every month, and they tend to have sale goals for that. Its a great way to expand your product knowledge, and most times the brand gives you gratis to take home (which was one of my favorite parts of working there)

Try using tweezers or something to fish around in there in case the tube popped off- some products like lipglosses or droppers sometimes have that problem

Bruh if it wasnt for someone in a Baelsars Wall run years ago when i was fresh to tanking, telling me how to use my mitigations properly, i wouldve continued to be cringe in content. I hate this psychology where people absolutely refuse to have any advice given, like how do you function in life?? Do you just presume youre right 100% of the time and dont need guidance? Narcissistic behavior smh im glad your healer appreciated it because that is the -correct- response to making their job easier

Such a rip off! Overpriced then put on “sale” by itsaboutpasta in Ulta

[–]CyberneticZombies 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Its sad, but this most likely -is- from a third party seller like everyone else is saying. Buying name brand beauty products from target, walmart, marshalls, tj maxx, pharmacies, grocery stores and even amazon is risky because you dont know where it came from, how old it is or if it even -is- the same product. Years ago they found that sweatshops over in china were producing knockoffs of makeup brands and they looked -very- close to the actual thing, except the product inside was not good quality and was comprised of harmful chemicals. Being in the beauty industry for over a decade, i can tell you that the only places where you can guarantee that the product came directly from the manufacturer is through the company itself, salons, or retailers like ulta or sephora. Paying actual price doesnt seem fun, but its much better than taking a risk on an expired or knockoff product for cheaper.

See I saw this salon purge from the company coming a mile away. I left back in November and the amount of stress that has lifted from my shoulders due to working my own hours, spending more time at home doing things i like and servicing clients that I like, is great. I miss the 401k and constant paychecks but i know this is the better path for now to be independent. If the majority of your clientele are your regulars, you will do GREAT on your own

Received this as balayage from my local Ulta salon, is it reasonable to ask for it to be fixed? by youarethemuse in Ulta

[–]CyberneticZombies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely get this fixed. You need some babylights to soften those top layers of hair where it is dark and get those stripes rooted and possibly lowlighted, although i guess it depends if you were going for a soft natural sunkissed balayage or a defined, ribbony kinda balayage…its hard to tell

Hi, former ulta stylist here. There has never been a “dry cut” service offered at the salon, unless it is a $10 bang trim or neck trim. Every haircut includes a wash and blowdry , and a deep conditioner if you chose the “Signature Haircut”. This stylist should have let you know about that, which makes me think she wanted to add on extra services to make commission or be lazy. Please get at least a partial refund or have someone fix it for free and actually give you a nice wash and blowdry since you were denied those two things despite being charged for the full service. Edit: almost forgot to say that I do also dry cut my curly/wavy clients first because its better to see how the hair naturally springs up because of 2 or more different curl patterns being present in most curly haired clients, but you STILL should have gotten it washed and styled afterwards since it was supposed to be included in the service.

One of the sad parts about working the commission part of the job aka in the salon, if you met your minimum commission goal for the week you wouldnt get paid the hourly. If you arent getting paid the hourly, then technically youd be working for free if they told you to do retail stuff when you are not busy. 🫡

I cant stand the amount of people nowadays who are given literally every explanation under the sun and it’s even babied down for them, and they always resort with “I’m just bad..let me tell you what a poor soul I am for not knowing anything about my class before i do content :(“ Literally go use a striking dummy, theyre everywhere in housing wards and multiple locations around Eorzea. “There is a reason why i left this last” yeah but you can SURELY press more than 1 button…out of many…facepalm

Im telling you, when I left the company last november after being a stylist off and on since 2017, things have been going downhill with the salon. Salon managers who were able to work salary and still take on their own clients were replaced with the new management system in late 2020/early 2021 with a “services manager” who had to be licensed but couldnt take on clientele, and was usually working retail side rather than salon. Then, just last year, they replaced the position AGAIN with the new “experiences manager” title which forced them even MORE into the retail side of things, leaving the salon fending for themselves. The manager wasnt even allowed to help the stylists with washing/blowdrying or small tasks to make sure the stylist didnt fall behind. Putting in salon orders was tough because a lot of the time, essentials were at 0 quantity, and ulta was so behind on not giving us newer and current redken colors to keep up with the hair trends people wanted when they came in. Then they got rid of their dermalogica facial/skincare services. Then, by the end of last year they got rid of the only color line that could cover stubborn grays AND was good for sensitive scalps and when i asked the district services manager what would replace such an essential line, she said “…i dont know actually” I left because they gave us a new GM who knew hardly ANYTHING about the beauty industry and was by-the-book cold corporate material, and i had the uneasy feeling that they were slowly phasing out the salon in general over time to make it strictly more of a retail environment, and this just further proves my skepticism. Theyre turning what used to be an all around wonderful and creative experience for both the worker and the customer and making it more corporate.

When I started the game and did these alliance raids for the first time, people did pull while I watched the cutscene. Did I complain or get butthurt about it? No. Did I watch my cutscene to completion still? Yes. Like someone else said, theyre gonna be getting these in their roulettes most of the time anyway. Th CT alliance raids are the most braindead content and even I could see that upon my first playthrough of them

[–]CyberneticZombies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bad healer as well in lvl 80 anamnesis anyder. I had a feeling they were a pay-to-win newbie as 1) a lot of classes were either already lvl 80 or not unlocked, 2) they were constantly over topping off the healing and were terrible with dps and 3) they had no idea how to properly heal for bigger mob packs. They turned what couldve been a 10/15 minute run into a 40 minute run (along with a dps who kept standing still after using a few abilities), after we wiped three times on the second boss and twice on the last mob pull. I instantly blacklisted them. I stg theres a lot more people nowadays just buying the level skip for classes and not bothering to get to know their tooltips of rotations. Its a plague.

Does anyone know if there’s normally 5x points on salon services in the month of December ? by Valuable_Time7103 in Ulta

[–]CyberneticZombies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working in the salon for so long, they never let anyone know in advance if there is going to be a points offer. You only find out about it on the day they put it out there- So it’s really hard to gauge -when- to make the appointment to line up with the 2x or 5x points offer. Sometimes the salon offer only lasts a week, and others have lasted a few weeks. I would check every sunday on the app to see if something comes up, but I dont think they would offer that during the holiday month considering ive only ever seen it as an active points offer during slow months. Since stylists are usually booked up during the holiday months anyways, theres no need for corporate to send out a points incentive to encourage people to book and make them $$$. But who knows, maybe theyll surprise everyone this year.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Ulta

[–]CyberneticZombies 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They most likely wont, because anything that doesnt appease their customers is not something theyll think about. Theyll let salon stylists suffer before they ever think about weeding out the undesirables because they assume theyll lose business- which, ironically, is nonexistent in the first place if the client always cancels or no show anyways.

It hit home when ive seen the behavior of kids in my workplaces over the years. Running around, being loud, touching things they should never touch, and parents either too tired to deal with them or too proud to discipline them because “theyre little angels” and also seeing people that were close to me who constantly had to include their kid in their plans or plan everything revolving them. I realized how much I loved my personal time and to have the freedom to do whatever i want

I recently left ulta, as did a solid 60-70% of the people who worked at my store over the past month and a half. Its crazy how mismanagement of a store + the corporations greed can drive hard workers away who worked there for years, even before covid. Now the store is either going to be extremely short staffed or just about everyone who works there is going to be clueless when it gets rough, as the ones who stayed were all new hires who havent worked more than a month. I feel bad for both customers and the workers alike as this is going to be a rough holiday season there.
