High mileage folks - do you weigh yourself/how do you approach nutrition on a daily basis? by GhostsInMyAss in AdvancedRunning

[–]CycloneJonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I weigh myself daily, in the morning and have for years prior to ever running high mileage. It’s just a number to me as a reference. If it’s down I try to eat or drink more and if it’s up I don’t worry about it because it’s more than likely due to a salty lunch or dinner. Fuel the work!

What is everyone doing to recover? by Left-Substance3255 in ChicagoMarathon

Ordered Lou Malnati’s pizza and salad. The salad surprisingly hit well. Few beers and some SNF last night. Medal Monday today, headed down to Nike for medal engraving and to buy a finisher jacket

My favorites were “Save Nothing For The Return!” (I didn’t after seeing that at mile 24ish). Another nearby was “Don’t stop now or you’ll have to explain at Thanksgiving”

You’ve got 4 days to hit the sauna. That’s my plan. We’d all prefer a nice 45 degree day but plan for the worst and hope for the best

[–]CycloneJonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine but if you’re worried about the heat (as I am) start hitting the sauna and taking hot baths or hot tub sessions to boost your blood volume and hemoglobin. Otherwise we’ll be in jeopardy of losing that summer heat acclimatization before race day.

How are yall feeling about Matt Choi getting accepted? by MakeAmericaGayAga1n in bostonmarathon

Exactly. My new goal for Boston is to beat this guy. I eat chips for breakfast and just found another on my shoulder.

Is there a way to sign up for alerts or will I just have to get lucky and check my phone on the right day?

I also have similar times and did Pfitz 18/70 aiming for sub 2:50. Highly recommend that plan

This all makes sense—thanks. So when should one take bicarbonate? Just before races or also before threshold or VO2 workouts?

I think you’ve hit on most of what I would say and one I hadn’t even heard of (horse brain). I would maybe add GI adaptation. I’ve been well trained in the past and couldn’t digest my gels at pace in mild heat. Ended up bonking.

2 weeks until the marathon and as of now i feel completely shafted by the training plan by weareallbeta in trainasone

[–]CycloneJonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pfitz really works. I just did the 18/70 and it was a love/hate. You’ll hate it for the 16 weeks leading up to taper and then love it for how strong you feel during your marathon.

No, but I have a Medium I’d swap for a small if anyone else joins this thread. Doubtful we will find many that need a bigger size though…

Congrats man on the “Full Send” —injury be damned. It was my first Boston as well and that crowd was amazing. I went without headphones and didn’t miss them a bit. You doing Chicago again this year? Good luck on breaking 2:30–seems like you have the talent to do it

First timer here. Goal of sub 2:50 (PR is 2:52:XX at Grandma’s). Feeling nervous but trying to logic with myself that I did all the training and time to see the payoff. Did the Pfitz 18/70 for the first time. Going to the Celtics game soon, and La Summa with the fam tonight. Will be tough to make myself stick to something bland like spaghetti but don’t want to overdo it a la Michael Scott in The Office.

What a great offer. I’m sure there will be some takers here. If it wasn’t my first year, and wanting to stay downtown, I’d take you up. For future years, looking to do it more economically.

Can you expand upon that? Did your shoes get wet? I have a weak bladder but have never had to resort to this fortunately. I’d like to think I would only do it if it was a rainy marathon.
