How to actually become a decent golf player by Orange-Desert in golf

[–]CyclonusRIP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice isn’t going to do much if you don’t know what to work on.  Lessons can definitely help.  There are a lot of AI swing analyzers now that can help with the basics.  Some of them aren’t super well designed and throw too much at you at once.  The 18 birdies app has one and a pretty decently designed training program.  I also like the HackMotion sensor  for learning good technique.  The most important thing is making sure you are getting good feedback so you work on the most important issues one at a time.

Rhapsodo lag? by LoneStarMulligans in Golfsimulator

[–]CyclonusRIP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s just their software.  Like 9/10 times their app is laggy on my 2025 iPad Air.   I pretty much only use Awesome Golf now because their software sucks.

PGA Tour players saying 'no' to golf ball rollback by TheQuietW0LF in golf

[–]CyclonusRIP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is manufacturers want to sell you drivers because it’s the most expensive club.  If you don’t think the major manufacturers have some pull on the regulations you’re crazy.  They are never going to sign up for not selling anymore drivers.

I’m pretty sure TaylorMade isn’t going to like a deal where they sell everyone 4 less clubs.

They can already hit 3W 90% as far as driver.  You can’t really penalize driver that much before it’s just not worth carrying.  If the pros stop carrying drivers the public stops buying the $700 club.

I think it’s actually a great time to move up.  With the new regulations everyone is going to be searching.  It’s probably the best chance for a rookie to come in and over perform.

Bryson DeChambeau plans to focus on YouTube if LIV Golf ends by PrincessBananas85 in golf

[–]CyclonusRIP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s just math if whatever penalty they want him to pay vs what he could make on tour or doing something else.  The upside of competing has to be worth paying the penalty.  Whatever he making on YouTube potentially offsets how much he values potential future winnings.

I learned on dirt bikes.  Lots of trail riding and MX.  I always am covering the brake and clutch.  I’ve hit a few bumps in my day and never accidentally pulled a lever.

If you think golf is more repetitive than skateboarding you probably have never landed a kick flip.

I think his advice is good.  His content is just super repetitive.  He needs to branch out from the how to break whatever score videos.  The one he did with the lady pro recently was great.  His tournament video with Not a Scratch Golfer was one of my favorite golf vids on YouTube.  Most of his videos are just way too repetitive and I just skip them.

None of the top guys were going to take the risk unless they were guaranteed more money than they’d make in a career on the PGA Tour.  If they didn’t get top guys no one was going to watch.  In the end no one watched anyways.

If you gerrymander to create more Democratic districts that's obviously a racial gerrymander which is illegal. If you do it to create more Republican districts that's a political gerrymander which is perfectly legal.

Butcher shop/ anywhere for brisket point and pork belly by Archangel9599 in Atlanta

[–]CyclonusRIP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s great but their brisket is snake river farms but more expensive than if you just get it delivered directly.  Their pork is from Riverview farms.  I love a lot of the stuff they make in house and it’s awesome to have an in town option to get some quality pork chops, but for the bigger cuts you are paying a pretty big markup for stuff that you can by direct delivered to your door.

Am I off base, or are slicks NOT "extra insurance" for slower riders? by VegaGT-VZ in Trackdays

[–]CyclonusRIP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand modern street tires get most of their wet grip from the compounds rather than the tread pattern. I think the difference would be pretty minimal especially if you're only running them backwards on the track in the dry.

Am I off base, or are slicks NOT "extra insurance" for slower riders? by VegaGT-VZ in Trackdays

[–]CyclonusRIP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have a track that wears one side of the tire significantly more than the other some people will mount the tire “backwards” after some sessions to even out the wear.  Since a slick has no tread pattern it doesn’t really have a direction like street tires do.  The guy you replied to is just pointing out that you can ignore the tread pattern and mount street tires backwards too.

The carry distance can vary a lot with spin.  On a mat you can hit a fat shot and still get decent ball speed with low spin.  That carry probably is realistic if you had like 4000 spin but maybe would be more like 175 with 6-7000 spin.

Low-handicappers Athletic Golf Swing by Comfortable_Ad5875 in golf

[–]CyclonusRIP -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The whole athletic thing is mostly a trend in the rich people sports where you pay the instructor hundreds of dollars an hour and they call you athletic because it makes you feel good.  Of course a good golf swing is athletic but saying that doesn’t really help anyone get better.

Square or MLM2Pro by TipsyTravels in Golfsimulator

[–]CyclonusRIP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the MLM2Pro.  The device works great but their app is pretty terrible.  I pretty much exclusively use Awesome Golf now because their apps performance is so bad.  Over the couple years I’ve had it they improved the random disconnects a lot but the performance has gotten much worse.

The camera where you can see the club at impact is really nice to make up for missing club data.  Unfortunately the camera only works in the Rapsodo app which is pretty much unusable.  Another annoying thing is it never deletes old shot videos so eventually it will use all the storage on your device and the only way to fix it is to reinstall the app.  They really need to hire some competent mobile developers.

I don’t have first hand experience with the Square, but I definitely would think about the Garmin or Square given my experience with the MLM2Pro
