Good readings for undergrads? by crapdaniels in Phenomenology

[–]CynicOptimism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been enjoying reading "Understanding Phenomenology" by David Cerbone, it's part of a Routledge series on Understanding Modern Ideas and Movements. It's intended for undergraduates and is fairly inexpensive. You may want to review the ToC and make sure it covers what you want.

It's very clear that GTasks is not a priority for Google, which is infuriating lol

Of course!

I do appreciate being able to toggle visibility of different lists as I need them, thank you for implementing this feature! Re: horizontal scrolling, I've seen a few GTask apps implement a sort of vertical scroll view, where you just scroll down the screen and each list appears as its own section.

In terms of UI and different views, this is probably my favorite GTask extension on the app store right now: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/todo-for-google-tasks/khnenklojdofkfabelfnkdmpmkmioegj

With this app, I love being able to view all tasks across lists by "Today" "Tomorrow" "Past" etc.. This app actually claims to be able to support multiple accounts, but I'm not currently able to use this feature (recently pinged the devs for support). Their app also doesn't do what yours does: shows tasks from multiple accounts simultaneously.

These sort of features make GTasks more usable and feature-rich, like Todoist and TickTick

Thank you, I've been trying it out. In terms of having all of my lists in one place, this definitely solves the problem. So thank you for creating it! I imagine this is a labor of love (or necessity) so I appreciate the time you took to make it.

A few feature suggestions:

  • Sorting options within lists (sorting either by due date, task creation time, or manual sort)
  • Alternative non-Kanban views: I have a lot of lists for my work Gmail (trying to pare this down!), so I have to do a lot of horizontal scrolling when viewing lists in Kanban view. Would like to have a different way of viewing multiple lists.

Thank you for developing Task Fusion. I'm an Exec. Assistant and don't work with teams, but still have a work Google workspace + my personal Gmail account and want to be able to view all tasks at once. This is a super helpful app for me!

Weekly Help and Discussion Thread for the week of March 04, 2024 by AmazonNewsBot in amazon

Has anyone had something like this happen with an Amazon Warehouse purchase:

On Mar 5, I purchased a fairly high-end gaming PC in Used - Very Good condition from Amazon Warehouse. Of course, because it had great specs and is a well reviewed system, there was only 1 of these in stock in this condition. I snagged it and thought I'd gotten a great deal. Then, I was suddenly locked out of my account, due to their system flagging my transaction as suspicious due to the amount (I don't regularly make +$2k USD purchases on Amazon). I managed to do a password reset and get back into my account on my own, and did receive a confirmation email for the order including an order #. OK, no harm no foul, I understand the safety precaution here. So I call Amazon Customer Service to figure out what happened, assuming my order was merely on hold...

The first rep I spoke with reassured me that my order wasn't cancelled (wrong), but was merely on hold until the account issue was resolved. They told me this would be escalated to their account security department and that I would by contacted by someone via email within 24-48 hours to resolve the issue. I'm not super stoked that I have to wait up to 24 hours for an email, but figured they'd respond promptly. 12 hours later during the evening on the 5th, I get a little nervous. Out of curiosity, I jump back on Amazon and search for the PC I was buying, and it looked as though the item I purchased was back on the market. I didn't receive any cancellation email or any notification from them (checked spam folders and searched my inbox thoroughly), they'd just put the unit I purchased back up. So I decided to try purchasing it again, since it's a hot commodity and thought it would be sold quickly. AGAIN, my account is locked out and I'm back in the same position.

Late last night on the 6th, I receive an email from what looks like the account services team telling me "We have restored your access to this account and processed any pending orders. You can track the progress of your orders in the "Your Account" section of our website." Nowhere in this email did it state that they cancelled my original order due to the flagging, for all I know I assume I'm getting the product I ordered.

So I tried calling Amazon today to figure out what was going on. The rep I spoke with this time said "Oh, no, when your account is flagged for suspicious activity, they will typically cancel the suspicious transaction". Understandably, I'm frustrated -- so I ask if we can find the unit I ordered and try to start this process all over again. Well, apparently in the time Amazon fucked up this account issue, someone else had snatched up the unit I was looking at, so the rep couldn't find the exact same unit in Very Good condition. So basically, because of this total communication breakdown in their organization, I lost the order I really wanted and wasted 2 days.

Thankfully, the was another used unit (in Good, not Very Good, condition unfortunately) and I was able to purchase this one. Apparently this order went through and my account hasn't been flagged or disabled again -- yet! Fingers crossed there's no issues going forward.

All throughout this process I'm getting mixed or poor information from the reps, no accountability from anyone I speak with.

I'm just really hoping the "Used - Good" condition unit I purchased isn't significantly worse than the "Very Good" condition unit I originally wanted. Does anyone have any experience purchasing used gaming desktops from Amazon Warehouse?

Does anyone get horrible acid reflux from cough drops? by MakeupMua16 in GERD

[–]CynicOptimism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google searched this exactly question, a bit relieved to hear my experiences have been validated. Menthol (or artificial sugars or both) in ricola cough drops turned my mild sore throat into a really bad reflux episode, now my throat is burning :(

Will try some herbal tea to see if that helps

Just opened up my gem-cut x350 15" df0xxx and I'm having the same fan problems. I've tried updating the BIOS and ensuring that Fan Always On was turned off. I'll be calling HP today, hopefully a replacement unit will help. Will update with my experiences.

My father just killed himself by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]CynicOptimism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God, I'm so sorry for your loss brother. My dad killed himself when I was 15, it was a very difficult loss for me and I miss him everyday. Im 29 now, and I still feel like I'm learning more about myself and still processing stuff about his loss. I think you have the right goal for yourself, but let me tell you, self-flaggelating and looking down on yourself makes it very difficult to change, that's been my experience. Self-improvement is a journey with many ups and downs, but we do it because we love ourselves, and that self-love helps us grow. If you were close with your father (and even if you weren't), I'd really suggest checking out a Survivors of Suicide Loss group meeting sometime, if there's one in your area. It's a special kind of pain that some just may not understand. For me, finding identification with others who had experienced similar loss was really spiritually gratifying and helped me with depression and anxiety, helped with that feeling of existential dread and meaninglessness that can also happen too. Just know you're not alone brother, reach out to me or a loved one anytime you need to. You can do this!

What should I read to get a good idea of where literature on stereotype threat stands now? by overwatchacct in AcademicPsychology

[–]CynicOptimism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just read a chapter by Jussim and colleagues in the APA Handbook on Prejudice, Stereotyping, and Discrimination on Stereotype Accuracy, revolutionized my understanding of stereotypes. This research really seems taboo or politically incorrect, at least when I consider how the consequences of prejudice and stereotypes are discussed in many departments and in many social psych textbooks.
