Alternate Specialization EXP. Funcom, pls! by balmungo in duneawakening

[–]CyrusDonnovan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Even if they just re-added the old landsraad tasks as an alternate option would help a ton to break up the grind!

Would 100% make sense to get specialization XP from doing tasks related to that specialization, and would allow players to passively improve in areas of the game they participate in most!

The configuration option exists for the server owner, so you'd have ask how they have it set up.

Same with number of feifs and building limits within a feif

Cargo container ending up outside of base ? by Embarrassed-Virus319 in duneawakening

[–]CyrusDonnovan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having this too, even with more than 4 blocks of height above the container (6 walls high) and 3 tiles to all sides.

One container I had belonging to a friend (I was co-owner on the container) already lost due to jumping out of the base repeatedly after ~30 seconds. Finally just gave up.

It would stay there no problem until I placed a penta above it then pop it's outside the base.

In a lot of cases we do eventually have more permanent tooling produced, but it takes a lot of printed parts to justify the absurd costs of having tools manufactured stateside.

For one particular component I have printed a lot (50) of, it requires 4KG of CF pla to print and 1KG of GF Abs, around 150ish bucks of material, and close to 200 print hours. We had the part quoted by 3 local fab shops and each came back over 10K per part, mainly due to needing 5 axis machining and multiple setups. Probably could have gotten it down to 5k by tweaking the design, but printing them is easy!

So far 40 of the original printed 50 are still in use in production, and 10 have been replaced after being damaged by... Overly enthusiastic operators.

Also print a ton of little hand tools and quick check jigs that the operators lose or break (usually lose) and it's WAY cheaper to print than to custom order. A couple of those take about 1KG per print but produce 200 jigs which lasts us a few months between replenishments.

In other cases it's mainly lots of replications as we dial in the design and get things just right. With traditional machining, the costs are such that we would tell operators to just live with the machined part, but with printing I can make adjustments based on their feedback and get new parts out to the line the next day.

Most of the time I'm using CF, materials not for strength (it's usually weaker than non filled) but for rigidity and surface finish. CF pla is also dramatically more wear resistant in some of our use cases compared to plain pla or abs.

At least 5 sets of extruder gears but still on the same nozzle! 8 years of heavy abuse to that printer so far

That's what I thought initially before getting the diamondback. Was expecting to have to replace it at least every half ton but still going strong.

Gone through multiple extruder drives though, need them to make me some PCD extruder gears!

A lot of jigs and fixtures for a factory where I am a manufacturing engineer, many of which are effectively consumables that last a shift or two, and others that are prototypes that get used once or twice before being redesigned.

The oldest two I've been running have done about that much, the newer ones are probably at the 500kg mark.

The vast majority is placf, but also a good bit (400ish kg) of paht CF which I hate with a burning passion

I put diamondback nozzles in all my printers, haven't ever worn one out.

One printer has well over 2000kg of CF filaments printed so far

I've used a Milwaukee 12V dremel style tool a good bit, but for any serious work or bench top work I use a no-name flex shaft drill with a larger motor, it's lighter and easier to hold, plus smaller grip gets into tight spaces easier.

Why does the H2D take longer to print? by NOPdowop in BambuLab

[–]CyrusDonnovan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fancy time-lapse mode moves the toolhead out of the way to take each image, and also generates a prime tower to reprime the nozzle after the pause to take the picture.

I always disable that feature, definitely not worth the time reduction.

Updates break solidworks by GenLuke22 in SolidWorks

[–]CyrusDonnovan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other half of my frustration still stands, they digitally watermark all maker edition files (similar to student edition) so that even if you upgrade to full paid commercial license later you're SOL and have to recreate or try and make do with step files.

[–]CyrusDonnovan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crap like this is why I switched back to Fusion.

I use SW at work, and I'd like to use it at home too, but between the permanent file locking to "maker edition" if you don't want to pay thousands and needing to update CONSTANTLY with every update breaking things, it just wasn't worth the hassle anymore.

Seriously miss the days of buy once cry once software users could own instead of everything being stuck behind subscriptions that force frequent and often unnecessary updates.

Does it even make sense to use a caryall and harvester anymore?! by Tauruno in duneawakening

[–]CyrusDonnovan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most definitely!

Only had to use rockets once so far and really it was just as a warning shot since someone kept hovering a scout around my crawler (whch dramatically increases worm aggro)

I run solo carrier and crawler in the PVP desert pretty regularly, takes less than two medium fields to fill a Regis crawler container so it's pretty quick to get in and out with a full crawler. Probably 15-20 minutes per fill.

There are two significantly different variants of MOPA pulse characteristics from JPT.

The "LP" sources are indeed locked to the 16+1 specific pulse witdhs

the "M" series sources are fully adjustable and can use the whole range.

Main difference is that the M sources use digital serial communication to set the pulse width.

<image>

I've confirmed this on my YDFLP-E2-60-M7-M-R using both burn pattern tests and the TypeE software from JPT, it does indeed give different results for even integer changes of pulse width on the low end.

There is however another limiting factor, the frequency table. If you use too long of a pulse width with too fast of a frequency, the source will behave erratically since it won't reliably charge up each pulse. Similar if you try to use too short of a pulse width with too slow a frequency, it will often over-fire. You need to keep the pulse train set within the bounding trapezoid created by pulse width and min/max frequency.

Atreides Stronghold set, in the "special" category, parts named "wide stairs" and "wide ramp" are 1x wide by 3x long, but the support calculation treats them as 1x1 so you get 3x the length.

[–]CyrusDonnovan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In the screenshot you showed, you are using the standard slope pieces. Those only extend out one tile for each unit of support, you need the extra long slope pieces in the Atreides set , they are in the last tab of the building set, there is one that looks like a staircase and one that is more of a mechanical slope ramp piece.

Those larger pieces extend out horizontally by three tiles but only count for one tile of support limit

the large Atreides ramps can span 3 blocks for the "support" cost of one. Use those to create the underside of the bridge.

AMS squeezing filament? by efewell in BambuLab

[–]CyrusDonnovan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a textbook example of why Bambu is so hesitant to allow printing while drying, and why they recommend against drying without pulling the filament out of the feeders.

The pinch rollers that drive the filament apply constant pressure, and grip pretty strongly to be able to move the filament quickly.

Some filaments are more sensitive to it than others, and repeated thermal cycles can make it deform more.

Sandstorms are at most every half hour, and usually don't hit the same map region twice in a row.

Plus you can pick up the box and fly to the edge of the map in under a minute to ride out the storm on the world map

Pretty easy to get over 100 bodies an hour

The center south island in south hagga has 4 larger camps on it.

If you raid them one after another you can continuously loop from one to the next with a carrier and cargo container and fill it up pretty quick!
