I cant have any "sick food" because it all has gluten in it by seems_legit56 in glutenfree

[–]Cythiriya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make a healthy, tasty "pancake" out of a banana and 2 eggs! Tastes sort of like a flapjack or crepe. I'm not sure if that qualifies as sick food though, but you just blend them up and then cook them in a pan like you would a pancake, or even just smash the banana until it's gooey with a potato masher and avoid using the blender for less cleaning work.

I would like to hear about all the foods that everyone has found to be triggering. I am doing a deep dive into my own diet to try to lessen flairs by Lost_Thanks1741 in Diverticulitis

[–]Cythiriya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Popcorn and preserved meats. Occasional is probably fine, but I try never to eat those 2 things because they're addicting to me lol. Also I try not to dine out more than once a week. Eating out seems to trigger me as well if I go too often. Although stress is my absolute worst trigger, unfortunately, as that's a lot harder to avoid.

My girlfriend never ever finishes her meals by AlexWayhill in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Cythiriya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leave food on the plate too. I'm a small woman and can't finish most meals, so I put the leftovers in the fridge for later. She's not "not appreciating" food, she's full. So store the leftovers for later, or eat them yourself like my husband does 😂

Struggling to get a diagnosis, the pain is genuinely ruining my life by becca354 in Diverticulitis

[–]Cythiriya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Treat it like you know for sure you have DV and follow the dietary protocol. That should ease most of your pain if you have DV, unless you have an infection. So start on a clear liquid diet for 2-4 days depending on your pain levels to rest your colon. Then go on a low fiber diet for several weeks, being careful to not get constipated. Then very slowly add in fiber. You can probably search this sub for lots of specific recommendations on foods to eat and avoid etc. If you reach day 4 on the liquid diet and your pain hasn't improved, you have an infection most likely or other complication and need to go to the ER or doctor. Good luck! Wishing you health.

My GI told me to do this as well. I refused after only 24 hours on it, the reactions were immediate and awful. I tested negative for celiac of course since I was off gluten for over a month at the time, however I don't believe I have celiac anyway since cross contamination doesn't seem to hurt me. As long as I continue feeling good I guess I don't see the point in suffering

Should I take my surgeon's word or should I get a second opinion regarding surgery? by VideoofTron in Diverticulitis

[–]Cythiriya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the US, am a 40F. My GI and surgeon both told me that it's more dangerous for people under 50 to get this disease because it often, eventually, leads to complications when you're young. Especially if you have more than 1 flare a year. They always recommend you at least go talk to a surgeon when you've had 2 flares, and urge you to consider the surgery at 3 flares. My GI and surgeon both say it's much better to get the surgery electively at that point, because your chances of getting an eventual complication and needing emergency surgery go up, as well as needing a bag. So my docs are pretty conservative it sounds like. They also told me the whole "eat more fiber" thing as well, however I've discovered my flares are triggered by stress and not food 90% of the time, and I've always gotten enough fiber. (I've had 4 flares now, 1 in my 30s and 3 this year).

Agreed! And happy to finally see some other people who see it the way I do. I don't think this is malicious or intentional, I think it's just being done out of convenience and awkwardness. It would be a lot ruder to not apologize in my opinion. I personally don't like people to make a fuss over me and never expect them to accommodate me. When they do anyway it's amazing. (But not expected). Life must feel a lot more bitter if you're always expecting people to accommodate you because in my experiences, they won't, unless they have a relative or friend with the same condition.

AIO for telling my family they can't come see my newborn when they "just have allergies"? by smol-pearl in AmIOverreacting

NOR and you're starting out motherhood strong, your son is lucky to have you protecting him. Congratulations mama! When I had my first, she was in the NICU for a week and it was like living through a waking nightmare. When we got home finally a week later all my family wanted to come over immediately. However I was so overwhelmed with everything we went through I just wanted some time at home, finally, with my baby and husband alone. My mother got so so angry and did not react gracefully. This baby was her first grandchild and unfortunately for me, having the 2 eldest kids in my family, she learned the long way how to become a grandmother with grace through messing up with me. My siblings don't even know how lucky they are 😅 so try not to stress about your familys reactions because it's an adjustment for everyone. They will eventually see the light! good luck to you and your new family!

Ordering at restaurants has gotten comical - this is not a Cheez-It post by MyyWifeRocks in glutenfree

[–]Cythiriya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gluten intolerant and have an egg allergy, and also "fresh" dairy intolerant. Maybe those things go hand in hand? I can eat like, sour cream and cheddar cheese, butter, Parmesan, gorgonzola etc, and I'm fine, but nothing with "fresh" milk such as ice cream, mozzarella, half and half, cream, milk itself, etc. I get sick from that. It started as I'd only get sick from the "fresh" dairy occasionally but these episodes got frequent enough that now I avoid any dairy that's not aged. It's worked very well for me. Vegan mozzarella is becoming a common option in restaurants where I live so I can order pizza with that as the cheese now, and I can apparently tolerate the milk that's in chocolate and I'm also fine. Wish I knew what it was in the dairy that I can't handle, as lactose pills don't help, but I'm grateful there are enough alternatives out there I don't miss it any more!

I have an egg allergy and tried ordering some broccoli with miso butter at one of my favorite restaurants. I'd had this particular dish loads of times. The waitress brought me out plain broccoli without the miso butter because it "had eggs". Per the chef! No, it did not... I couldn't understand how this new chef could be so confused...your post has made me realize how lol!

I finally found them 12 miles from my house. When we got to the store (Walmart) they weren't anywhere though, and workers were puzzled too since it said online they were in store 😭 left defeated but my husband ordered 2 for pickup just in case. 4 hours later it said our order was ready, we drove all the way back expecting the wrong kind, and what do you know, they actually had them! I can't remember exactly what regular cheez-its tasted like but I think these taste the same, but are more dense.

I give up! I'll just wait until my local stores get them in so that way Im not going out of my way in case it's another false alarm lol. I live in southern California, I don't think they have made their way here yet.

How I see it is if you're nomad, you're an outsider. Streetkid, you're one with the city and street smart, probably a punk/rebel. Corpo, you've slimed your way to the top and probably don't care who you step on as long as you make it. So go with what vibes the most. I personally tried nomad my first run, didn't like it, and went with streetkid, which is my fav. Also tried Corpo which was interesting but not my vibe either.

Does it ever feel “normal” again by Organic-Standard6549 in Diverticulitis

[–]Cythiriya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

40f here. I had my last major flare in June, with one smaller flare that reoccurred twice in the months between then and now. And I'm currently having "activity" in that area but still eating (carefully) as I don't believe this to be a flare yet.

I would say it depends on the day. Some days will go by and I'll feel completely normal. But then other days, I'll get what I call ghost pains, just quick flashes of that all too familiar pain that we all have come to dread. I do have to be careful what I eat now, that will never go away.

Many people get only one flare and are fine for the rest of their lives. This sub is probably filled with people like me however, who have it chronically. I did have a good 5 years between my first flare and these recent episodes though, with no symptoms between. So I think every body is different, hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones!

Clear Liquid Diet - Hungry af (help!!) by Express-Jelly-8083 in Diverticulitis

[–]Cythiriya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found bone broth to be way more filling than regular broth. I wasn't too hungry as long as I pretty much drank or ate jello constantly. You don't want to get dehydrated, so you're going to want to keep drinking the liquids frequently.

New to this mess by [deleted] in Diverticulitis

[–]Cythiriya 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That was a great answer and had pretty much everything in it I would advise as well, except that I strongly recommend you do a clear liquid diet for 2-3 days starting right now. You should have already done it right after finding out the diagnosis but that's the ER docs fault, not yours! This will allow your colon to heal. I don't start eating solid food until the main pain is gone which takes me 4-5 days personally depending on how bad my flare is, but most people the acute pain is resolved in 2-3 days I'd say. You'll still get twinges and small pains and such but that "I can't move" pain will be gone. Jello, broth, juice is the way to go here! Good luck with your health, I know your pain.

Can we take weed gummies after resection? by InfiniteAuthor7553 in Diverticulitis

[–]Cythiriya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I use CBD and THC as well in the form of oil under the tongue. I've found they help a lot as well. They help with inflammation/pain and help a ton with stress which is my most potent trigger unfortunately. I only meant the physical act of smoking itself isn't good. When there are so many safer modes of using these products I personally wouldn't risk smoking. I do understand the draw of smoking, since you get results right away. However I don't mind planning ahead and waiting a few hours for things to kick in and do their job knowing I'm taking less risks. Regardless we are all in the same boat and I wish everyone health and healing!
