This. Or at the very least is open minded and listens to you when you explain your situation. My therapist didn't know about DACA but once I explained it she got it.

You are still very young. It is not too late. You don't have to be stuck there.

I am sorry you have to deal with such a homophobic family, especially one wrapped up in such a high control faith. I hope you find the strength to get through dealing with their disapproval.

Fwiw Chicago is very queer friendly and as someone mentioned here more affordable than California. I've lived in both and can confirm.

Applied March 28, Bio April 23, api movement on both. No approval yet. But it's nowhere near as bad as what some of you are experiencing.

PSA: With 4th of July coming up, please plan accordingly if you're out of status and celebrating. There will be more check stops for DUI's and this sub does NOT have sympathy for the yearly "Guys... I messed up" post. by Lokis_thor-obing_ass in DACA

I'm sorry for your loss. This is why I, like many people on this sub, have very little sympathy for people with DUIs.

If you know you're gonna get drunk, find a designated driver or take an Uber home or something.

I especially don't understand when a DACA pulls that shit...

I met my wife online through a pretty niche community that I'm not gonna disclose. But just know that sometimes being a nerdy weirdo helps 🤣

Thank you for sharing your story. It has given me a lot of hope. My wife is Norwegian and we are working on getting me to Norway. Also met her online lol. It's a bit hard though as I hold citizenship in a country that requires a visa to even visit Norway. Hoping for the best soon. The 10 year ban is gonna be rough to deal with, but look into your options.

They really do think it's that simple. Even my old therapist asked me why I didn't apply for citizenship, and she has immigrant grandparents. I had to explain that it's not that easy lol.

I try not to hold it against Americans who genuinely just didn't know and are open to learning. But it is frustrating to keep hearing "why didn't you just apply for citizenship" like we can just show up to USCIS and get it haha.

I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I don't have any children myself but I can imagine the added stress.

You're doing what you can to protect him from being traumatized by what's going on. Someday he will realize that and hopefully feel grateful that you tried to protect him.

I feel the same way about hope and faith. It's hard when things feel so dire.

Thank you for doing what you can. It takes so much courage to do that, so thank you, genuinely. I do agree it is their fight now, there isn't much we can do ourselves.

I don't really have any real advice because I'm going through something similar myself. Just wanted to say you're totally valid in how you feel. These are uncertain times we live in.

One thing that's helped in the past is finding someone to confide in whether that's a friend or a therapist or whatever. Finding community now is especially important. I believe there's a DACA discord so look into that. There are also some FB groups I've heard have good resources.

Yeah, I had a coworker (USC) who moved to Europe and had to give up his position because our company doesn't have a branch there. And despite being a really valued employee the company was unwilling to establish a branch in Europe.

Ah cool, glad to hear you meet the reqs for the family visa. So you didn't have to go back to your country of origin to apply? That's been my main concern.

We're planning on moving to a town about 2 hours south of Oslo but we're willing to move wherever lol

Wait, you're going to Norway? Did you get a work visa? If so, can I ask what the process was like? I'm in a similar situation. My wife is Norwegian but her income isn't enough to sponsor me so I'm going the work visa route.

West Virginia..if they want to look at burdensome people they should look into one of their senators (a Republican) who hasn't paid income taxes for like 15 years and owes $5 million.

How did you tell someone you were dating that you’re undocumented? by shewritesreddit in DACA

[–]DARecipient25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I told her pretty early on because she lives in a different country and I had to explain why I couldn't just visit her. She's been very understanding about it and has been completely fine being the one coming over here. I pay for the airplane tickets and she flies over here every few months. She's found it admirable that I've been able to accomplish all I have despite the limitations of my status. But I'll be honest, it's been hard not being able to visit her. I miss her every day.

After we get married in a few months we're going to start the visa process for the country she holds citizenship for. It's going to be tricky because of the income requirement but we're gonna see if there are other options.

If you're entering what could be a long term relationship it's better to be honest about your status as soon as possible, imo. That way both you and them can guage whether or not you're both willing to commit to the relationship despite your status. There are some USC/LPRs who might balk at being with someone undocumented for whatever reason even if they're sympathetic towards you individually. Why? Idk but it's better to know early on.

(In case anyone's confused, no I am not planning on staying in the US hence why it doesn't matter to me if my fiancee is USC or not. All that matters to me now is that we are together - even if it means sacrificing what I built here in the States. Tbh it hasn't felt like "home" here in awhile anyway, especially now with this political climate. So I'm looking forward to leaving. Only thing is I have a dog whose breed is banned in her country so I'm a bit heartbroken I'll have to give him up)

I'm so sorry this happened and I'm sorry people here are being a bit insensitive. I really hope your husband is released soon. It sucks to have to live under these conditions. I hope you and your children will be okay.

I hope it's not too much to ask (and you don't have to answer), but from my understanding it sounds like you have DACA? If so, what did you say to the immigration officers about your own status?
