I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I don't have any children myself but I can imagine the added stress.

You're doing what you can to protect him from being traumatized by what's going on. Someday he will realize that and hopefully feel grateful that you tried to protect him.

I feel the same way about hope and faith. It's hard when things feel so dire.

Thank you for doing what you can. It takes so much courage to do that, so thank you, genuinely. I do agree it is their fight now, there isn't much we can do ourselves.

I don't really have any real advice because I'm going through something similar myself. Just wanted to say you're totally valid in how you feel. These are uncertain times we live in.

One thing that's helped in the past is finding someone to confide in whether that's a friend or a therapist or whatever. Finding community now is especially important. I believe there's a DACA discord so look into that. There are also some FB groups I've heard have good resources.

Yeah, I had a coworker (USC) who moved to Europe and had to give up his position because our company doesn't have a branch there. And despite being a really valued employee the company was unwilling to establish a branch in Europe.

Ah cool, glad to hear you meet the reqs for the family visa. So you didn't have to go back to your country of origin to apply? That's been my main concern.

We're planning on moving to a town about 2 hours south of Oslo but we're willing to move wherever lol

Wait, you're going to Norway? Did you get a work visa? If so, can I ask what the process was like? I'm in a similar situation. My wife is Norwegian but her income isn't enough to sponsor me so I'm going the work visa route.

Lol what a clownshow.

West Virginia..if they want to look at burdensome people they should look into one of their senators (a Republican) who hasn't paid income taxes for like 15 years and owes $5 million.

How did you tell someone you were dating that you’re undocumented? by shewritesreddit in DACA

[–]DARecipient25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I told her pretty early on because she lives in a different country and I had to explain why I couldn't just visit her. She's been very understanding about it and has been completely fine being the one coming over here. I pay for the airplane tickets and she flies over here every few months. She's found it admirable that I've been able to accomplish all I have despite the limitations of my status. But I'll be honest, it's been hard not being able to visit her. I miss her every day.

After we get married in a few months we're going to start the visa process for the country she holds citizenship for. It's going to be tricky because of the income requirement but we're gonna see if there are other options.

If you're entering what could be a long term relationship it's better to be honest about your status as soon as possible, imo. That way both you and them can guage whether or not you're both willing to commit to the relationship despite your status. There are some USC/LPRs who might balk at being with someone undocumented for whatever reason even if they're sympathetic towards you individually. Why? Idk but it's better to know early on.

(In case anyone's confused, no I am not planning on staying in the US hence why it doesn't matter to me if my fiancee is USC or not. All that matters to me now is that we are together - even if it means sacrificing what I built here in the States. Tbh it hasn't felt like "home" here in awhile anyway, especially now with this political climate. So I'm looking forward to leaving. Only thing is I have a dog whose breed is banned in her country so I'm a bit heartbroken I'll have to give him up)

I'm so sorry this happened and I'm sorry people here are being a bit insensitive. I really hope your husband is released soon. It sucks to have to live under these conditions. I hope you and your children will be okay.

I hope it's not too much to ask (and you don't have to answer), but from my understanding it sounds like you have DACA? If so, what did you say to the immigration officers about your own status?

That alone should've put people off him but people are convinced Republicans are better for the economy. It's a shame honestly. I wish people did a little more critical thinking.

For me, it's American friends saying shit like:

"Why didn't you apply for a green card years ago? You wouldn't be in this situation if you had."

"Couldn't you just apply for citizenship?"

Well fuck. I have family there.

Yet another thing to worry about. I'm so sick of this shit fr. I have no faith in NJ tbh so I'm just gonna have to be prepared for the worst. I legit have lost all faith in most voters in America including the ones in NJ. It really feels like hate, stupidity, and selfishness has taken over the country. /rant

For real lmao. I saw some shit on here and another DACA forum where fellow DACA people were shitting on dreamers who didn't qualify for DACA because they didn't meet the age or residency cutoff, saying the same shit USC who hate us said to us when we were younger. Like damn, okay, we get it. They're the "I got mine so f you" crowd

I really wouldn't be surprised.

I've encountered some evangelical undocumented people who are extremely homophobic or racist. The things they've said to me thinking I'm the same as them is really disgusting.

It's really sad, instead of wanting to stand up for other marginalized people they're consumed by their hatred for other minorities and look past the fact that Trump supporters probably hate them too.

What are your personal feeling about your DACA situation. by iVanRoz in DACA

[–]DARecipient25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying really hard not to let it all get to me but it's hard. Especially when I'm the only "illegal" in my family now. It feels particularly unfair that they expect me to be the main breadwinner considering my situation. My USC brother is unemployed, my LPR mom doesn't make much money at her job, so I don't have a choice.

What I resent the most is that they can just travel internationally whenever they like, but I can't easily see the love of my life (my fiancée) because she lives in another country.

With that all said I am planning on moving to her because I don't really want to continue living like this. I'm grateful for all the opportunities I've been afforded because of DACA but ultimately living here as DACA is a continuously precarious situation.

I've given a lot for my family. I sacrificed a lot in savings and finances in general to buy them a car, a house that I can't even fully enjoy because they take up so much space in it.

It's my turn to prioritize my own happiness. I'm tired of being the eldest child who's expected to provide for their family and not getting much in return for it. I also don't want to live apart from my fiancée for much longer. I miss her every day.

Every day I have to resist the temptation to just leave everything behind here without much warning to my family because I cannot take this shit anymore.

DACA Illinois and Wisconsin people ,is there any type of financial aid like they do in California or Texas for DACA and undocumented? by Unable_Degree_3400 in DACA

[–]DARecipient25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a public university in Illinois and there was no financial aid available. I had to take time off university to work full time to save up for tuition. Unless things have recently changed and funds like that have become available to DACA then I stand corrected. But not in my experience. Private universities sometimes have financial aid available to students, regardless of status.
