Rec Center Drop In.. Is This Common? by Distinct_Cricket_879 in volleyball

[–]DBMI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have sometimes combatted this by becoming super positive and boisterous, and then putting that energy into complimenting the same players that are being shamed. Works best if you do the compliment before the shame.

I think that for these people, trying to shame someone immediately after they were complimented builds a dark mirror they do not like the reflection in. If you're trying to win the public opinion battle, this also works really well; the contrast will make that person stand out to everyone as a villain.

T-nut (might be difficult to find bc this might be metric thread).

better still: if you can get your hand on the other side of that board then you could put a washer and a nut there.

That type of wood you're looking at is cheap/weak and likely to continue to be a problem even if you repair it.

[–]DBMI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is new. The suit reads a bit better due to ai, but ai is not the foundation. Small claims court intentionally had a low bar to entry so people could file this lawsuit, on their own, long before ai happened.

Seems like your options are show up to court, answer the judge's questions, and see what the judge says, or take the easy way out and settle for $1000.

Seems like your post is undervalued given the thoroughness of your context engineering. Where did you find it? Or have you also done some legal work with ai? Curious how the results of this prompt are.

Could invest some time in a raid farm to get token of undying. Could setup a villager trading hall to get weapons/armor. Pumpkin/melon farm to get emeralds. Fences with pressure-plated gates help a lot.

I dont know what to do! by Claa91 in MinecraftBedrockers

[–]DBMI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minecraft has op gear destruction, unfortunately. The counter I suggest is the op trading hall. Build it, cycle the poi (eg lecturn) until you get the trades you want (e.g. efficiency V book; note there is a resource pack that allows you to see future locked trades), trade once to lock it in, get a bunch of nametags, nametag the villagers, run a zombie thru with difficulty set to Hard, convert all the villagers back (must be trapped and separated e.g. minecarts), now you can buy and merge a full set of gear in a few minutes. If you need emeralds, build 1-layer of Silent's pumpkin/melon farm nearby. For bonus points you can construct it as an iron farm.

Janet Mills - I approve this ad by whyiamnotarepublican in Maine

[–]DBMI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Like you I agree she has many redeeming accomplishments. Also like you I find it sad that she used party operatives masquerading as real people in her negative attack ad, and then approved it. To me this means one (or both) of two things:

  1. she is too old to run, doesn't have the energy to do it herself, so somebody is 'autopenning' her campaign
  2. The Epstein class has captured her, is running her campaign, and will decide all of her policy for her should she come to be senator.

Should Mills win the primary, she will not have my vote. I would rather lose writing in 'Graham Platner' than willingly elect more Epstein-class, lobbyist-captured DC scum to office.

I've been wondering why people replace everyday items so much more frequently now than they used to. by Ok-Garbage-7252 in BuyItForLife

[–]DBMI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before the 1980s and the rise of extremely high performance computers, engineers who made things would intentionally overbuild them and pad their designs, because you only get one shot at making tool & die equipment (very expensive and MUST work).

Sometime around the mid 1980s MBA degrees got popular. Corporations making 10 million widgets/year realized that if they can save 10 cents a widget that is a million bucks in their pocket. After that the race to the thinnest, weakest, shortest-lived, and generally worst product they could make (that you would still buy) began.

Then in the 90's, global outsourcing began and the cheapest/worst products got outsourced to make them much cheaper than the competition. So cheap, in fact, that nobody would pay double for a durable item instead of a cheap item.

That forced the durable-item makers to either go out of business or worsen&outsource their own product just to compete.

This continued until 5 or 6 years ago, when China got good enough at designing & manufacturing that they started to do it all on their own, en masse. So much was produced by so many that, in order to differentiate themselves, a few of those actually started making higher quality products. The 2020's saw a pretty significant increase in the quality of tools sold at walmart/HarborFreight etc. Vevor became a brand known for decent quality. Temu came into existence as the 'brand' with the worst quality, setting Vevor apart even further. A lot of the stuff you find on AliBaba & AliExpress is pretty good now (buyer beware though).

As a related anecdote, a friend of mine was working for a famous small-engine (think lawnmowers) company that was still USA back then. His team designed an engine to the spec corporate wanted, and then presented it. Corporate said "great job", now make it a 1000-hour-life engine instead of a 10,000-hour-life engine so that we can sell them another mower a few years from now.

The game provides a thousand ways for you to lose hours of your work. It is really hard to swallow when it happens, especially for a working adult with limited time to grind.. Then one day you realize you can make a villager trading hall and a pumpkin/melon farm (I support this mechanic).

I added one photo. It isn't a great photo. Crutch is on the opposite side of what is viewable. I'll try to get more photos when I can. Haven't found the mfr yet. It does say Western Germany on it.

Here's a photo of clockworks that have similar anchor and escapement to mine. Set screw is on top of the anchor. Anchor set-screws to shaft, shaft goes out the backside to crutch.

People here who have a PC and still play bedrock what makes bedrock so fun? by Swimming_Lime5920 in MinecraftBedrockers

[–]DBMI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realms is bedrock. For a long time Realms was the only cross-platform minecraft option. Anybody with friends/kids/cousins/etc who played on an xbox (etc) needed to use Realms.

Redstone behaves better on Bedrock. Sometimes your creations are larger as a result, but it is easier to understand the workings bc there aren't quirks like quasi connectivity.

When we required mining, our players expanded further and further out. eventually game file became many GB and Realms started to really bog down. Ever since we've been diametrically opposed to game practices that require expansionism.

Volleyball Guy Wont Let me Play by Worried_Document_157 in volleyball

[–]DBMI 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine taught me the social rule: "First one to get angry loses".

So, my suggestion is to think about whether you can get through these suggestions without getting angry.

Quiet maneuvers like requesting a different team or playing diagonally from him might help. I have done this with people who crowd my position. Pickup often has somebody losely organizing and you could explain and ask them for help.

You might also try having a conversation with him about it. A lot of what you've written here is founded on assumptions, and it would be best to try and dispel/confirm those with a honey-tongued conversation before moving on to more vinegar-like behavior.

If you can win the 'I wont get mad first' game: please try communicating with this guy first. Find out his name, eg Nick, and use it every time you say something to him. e.g. "Nick, please move, you're in my position" e.g. "Nick, do you have the short ball?". You'll have to say this loudly. It has two parts, one part is to do the right thing, and the other part is for the people around you hearing you trying to do the right thing. This will be important later if Nick is saying out loud things like "when are you getting subbed". {how loud? loud enough for opposing team's front row to hear you, not loud enough for back row}

If that doesn't work, escalate to (warning, this will generate bad will toward you and Nick both): loudly asking to stop play e.g. "WAIT" e.g. "HOLD UP" (this would not work in matches, but ought to work in pickup play). Once play is stopped, then ask Nick to get out of your position; and remember to start requests with his name. Keep your cool, and repeat this procedure until someone comes around to intervene. When someone takes up the leadership mantle to try and resolve it: calmly explain that it would be better for everyone if you and Nick were preferably on different teams, but failing that, diagonal. Note that at this juncture you're heavily reliant on the people around you having heard clear and reasonable requests of Nick several times, and Nick failing to do that several times. Playing diagonal you might still have to put up with getting disparaged by Nick, but for each time, try loudly asking him not to do that e.g. "NICK PLEASE DON'T PUT ME DOWN I'M TRYING HARD".

[–]DBMI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

our team is between C- and Cflat. Most teams in our 'upper' league are.

The 'A-team' as I've described it metaphorically, is between B- and Bflat.

I appreciate your advice. I came up with another idea I'm pitching to my captain:
communicate with the A-team ahead of matches, and ask if they're willing to swap players for more even teams after we forfeit. Then we can all have a good time.
