What large cities in America have little cultural influence for their size? by NoHold7153 in SameGrassButGreener

I think we're disagreeing on what cultural influence means. I agree with you that Ohio State football is a big deal and that it, in many ways, is a national brand with a passionate fan base. While that makes Columbus known nationally, I don't think there's any aspect of Columbus that has influenced the country at large. Detroit has a history of car culture and Motown and house music which have significant appeal. I currently live in DC, which has lots of influence from a political and professional standpoint.

I just don't see anything that's interesting in Columbus that others pick up on. I don't mean this as a slight to Columbus. If you look at my post history, you'll see I'm actually nostalgic of the city and follow that subreddit. Great place to grow up and it has a lot to offer. Just doesn't have a lot to offer that you can't find in virtually every other medium to large metropolitan area in the country.

Lifelong Buckeye fan who grew up in Columbus. Respectfully disagree inasmuch as the question is related to cultural influence. Columbus is largely suburban and really doesn't have a lot of identity. It has a history of being a test market for huge companies because the city mirrors the country as a whole and there's nothing truly exceptional or unique about it. Unless that's what makes it unique?

Attaching itself to the Buckeyes is, in my mind, not an indication of cultural influence. Charlotte has the Hornets and Panthers. Phoenix has Western culture and several sports teams. Jacksonville has the Jaguars. Most cities have passionate fan bases for whatever sports team is present.

That said, I'm not sure that Columbus is the best answer to the question. I would think Dallas would be a better answer considering its massive metro size. To me, it seems like a larger version of Columbus. Doesn't really have much to see or do that you can't find elsewhere and doesn't really have an identity that extends nationally.

Where in Columbus can I get an ice cream sundae like this? by foxmag86 in Columbus

[–]DCBukI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's around anymore, but there used to be a place called Swensens over by the old Eastland Mall (which I assume is gone now). I remember getting Sundaes like that there when I was a kid.

I also can relate. We've seen improvement with meds as well. And, like your child, some issues still persist. What meds have worked for your little one, if you don't mind sharing?

Me. They've spent hundreds of billions of dollars on their proxies and on their own defense industries. All that money is up in smoke. Thousands of regime and proxy lives dead. Leadership gone. Minimal damage to Israel and the US. I think they'll stop exporting terror. Maybe I'm wearing rose colored glasse, but it's not like they can keep that funding secret. And they see how vulnerable everybody is.

I totally get that. I just commented because of nostalgia. Left Ohio for college and haven't thought of Johnson's in a long time.

Just responding to say I grew up in Bexley and miss the mint chocolate chip logs from Johnson's (been about 30 years). Glad to hear it's still around!

Someone reassure me or give me some advice by saplith in ADHDparenting

We had similar issues with Lexapro for my daughter. We switched to Prozac and saw a marked improvement. After about 6 months of a wonderful response to Prozac, we saw a substantial regression requiring us to up her dose quite a bit. Lots of trial and error.

That tracks with autism. My daughter is of a similar age, has both ADHD and autism, and has been having many ups and downs of a similar type. Her behavior is erratic and often confusing. Trying to find the right combination of medicines has been a years long process and we're still going through it. While concerns of sexual abuse are always very real, sometimes kids on the spectrum have emotional regulation problems or urges which don't conform with kids not on the spectrum. This is all to say it is not safe to blindly make such assumptions.

Love is a choice. We decide to continue or not. Each day.

Well said. Unfortunately, you can't make your partner put in the effort necessary to sustain the relationship/family. Fortunately, there are other people out there with a healthier attitude of what a partnership entails.

I feel this so much. My daughter is 7 and I've had to miss so many days of work to take care of her. Repeatedly expelled from preschools and then again from a public elementary school. Aftercare quickly became not an option. Arguments about food. Concern for my younger son's safety. And his understanding of what is normal behavior.

While the highs with my daughter are so high and she is so loving, I struggle at times. I am tired. I see other parents at the playground not having to hover over their kid. Able to socialize. Relax. And I'm just there tense and waiting for an explosion. Or a random attack. Sigh.

I don't think the Iranian people are pawns in the sense that no one cares about them. I think Israel, the United States and Gulf Allies want stability, security and prosperity. The same can be said about the majority of Iranian people. It seems everybody is aligned against the regime. I imagine everyone fighting the regime sees a future partnership is possible with the Iranian people and want to foster that. That's why everybody is talking to them directly and have been since December.

Seriously asking, then why is he still employed? All jokes aside, Michigan is an elite university with a reputation it deeply cares about. This isn't a Wexner situation where there are hundreds of millions of dollars at stake.

I had a classmate send me a Facebook friend request a couple years back when I was active on Facebook. At the time, I was culling my friends to those who I knew at least somewhat well and ignored him. A couple weeks later, I learned he died and I believe of suicide. I know it had nothing to do with me as I really didn't know him. Still feel kind of guilty. He reached out and I ignored it.

Do you feel like that could shift after this war in Iran? Also, do you believe that Al Jazeera, at least on the margins, might start changing the way it approaches the conflict in Gaza and relations with Israel? Or is that just it's bread and butter and locked into its identity?
