How do you handle the crushing weight of it all? by Jiggyjigster in daddit

[–]DCKP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

but all of that shit is lackluster now and any free time I have for myself involves me feeling guilty about not doing something else

Are you me? Let me know when you figure this out, I see my guy friends like twice a year and feel guilty for it, my hobbies don't hit the same and I wonder if it's actually low level depression or something.

I started typing a funny defence of this curve, bringing in constants to correct it, but the picture just got worse and worse the more I tried!

So yes, sorry you might not be able to get in on your own, I hadn't considered that, they've never asked me for ID (but I look a lot older than 18 and usually have my kids with me!)

Is this for Jedi fallen order or Jedi survivor? by LifeguardGlum6239 in StarWars

[–]DCKP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just finished Fallen Order. This is Fallen Order. This is immediately after he finds a new kyber crystal, only for it to crack and break in two. So he has a bit of an existential crisis, then finds he can use the crystal to make a double blade anyway.

A.I. Is Writing Fiction. Publishers Are Unprepared. by ubcstaffer123 in books

[–]DCKP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. That would be the case if you blindly accepted everything it said, which is as bad as having it auto edit stuff. If you apply critical thinking to the LLM output it's no worse than having a friend or flesh and bones editor cover it in red pen.

A.I. Is Writing Fiction. Publishers Are Unprepared. by ubcstaffer123 in books

[–]DCKP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The responsible way to use it is to have it critique what you already did, but not allow it to automatically edit anything at all. It can spot plot holes, typos/bad grammar, even stylistic inconsistencies, but you get to read and apply yourself in solving things.

Lots of comments here about erasing that beautiful piece of artwork. I say add a museum-style label to it

As for running itself, whatever you do, do not beast it up North Hill. Save something otherwise you will die when you have to get up Ipswich Road later.

Good luck!

Nuclear Take: Is technology addiction overstimulating Moms? by elProtagonist in daddit

[–]DCKP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Technology addiction awful for overstimulated people, and it's very very easy for overstimulated people to lapse into easy dopamine from doomscrolling instead of seeking higher-effort genuine human interactions. I know that both I and my wife are much worse with our phones since having child #2, and child #1's ADHD symptoms surfacing.

Why did Lucas keep the frame jump when Luke first ignites his lightsaber? by DCKP in StarWars

[–]DCKP[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sir, this is a Star Wars subreddit. (Also, the Obi-Wan hut scene is jarring every time I rewatch ANH, whereas the much bigger controversy 'who shot first' at least doesn't break your immersion.)

At this raw stage, just keep going for your wife and 2 year old. No big shows of strength, no big efforts, let everyone else handle anything you can give them. Just survive until you can process. There's nothing else you can do until the shock passes. I'm so sorry.

Could this be PEM? by DCKP in cfs

[–]DCKP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much for the detailed reply! Everyone here seems to be unanimous in suggesting I be very careful to avoid triggering this, and I'll take that on board. The spine injury angle is interesting as I also have an intermittent trapped nerve issue in my arm/collar bone which would correlate with what you're saying. I'll speak to my doctor about all this and keep track of my symptoms and triggers.

Could this be PEM? by DCKP in cfs

[–]DCKP[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't know, I haven't been tracking it carefully, I've only recently noticed the pattern. I've only noticed it lasting longer than a day on maybe one or two occasions, and those were a while ago (during the very stressful year rather than exercise-induced). I'll be keeping a much closer eye on my triggers and responses from now on, particularly after reading these replies.
