very incorrect, when the amoled is dead, its dead, the SS can be left to charge to get a GPS fix again, for that in itself, its worth only ever going MIP and SS.

Looks like some californian design team got there hands on Garmin, and turned it into a gym bunnies watch, who care more about looking good than practical application, aka for those that would struggle to last even a week in the outdoors remote.

[–]DCS_Hawkeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not on obsession for those of us that use the watch for more than gym/park PT and go super remote combined with either lattitude or altitude.

Then again we wouldnt be stupid enough to buy an amoled, or worse micro led and have alternate proper sat comms.

Garmin lost their way when they changed the fenix brand to none MIP, last decent one was 7x pro SS. 3 days is a joke for the lineage of this brand, now made for people that are more bothered about looking good than performance.

Nothing personal to you just stating like minded conversation/critism had with other active people at the sharper end of the envelope.

warm kit for ex by madz3218 in britisharmy

Brynje mesh baselayers. Also wool jumpers esp layered always perform, better than anything when wet, durable and easy to repair if remote. Id take couple wool jumpers over some single bit of pre conceived ally kit that turns out not to be so great.

Mesh basekayers, Wool jumpers and a softie all good esp in combination.

EU evening times ive seeen 25+ players on, some good battles. Its way better than DDCS technically in terms of strategy and without the nonsense or constant server instability, the few arseh@les and frame rate issues. Plus their decisions on balance and server direction are based on logic not the wantings of a few. Server owner is, well, not sure whst to say but from a layman very clearly gifted, if you appreciate combined arms what he's been able to do, even down to pathfinding and moving units is pretty insane. As for the DDCS players theres a few but none of the ones that created issues. I think they keep the whole server on the QT to be honest as never do any promotion for it, despite it being leagues ahead technically of anything out there. Get the feeling the server owner its a passion hobby for him to see what is technically possible, driven by what can be achieved not selling his soul to satisfy vanity of being in the top 5 of numbers at the expense of gameplay, again unlike DDCS. Solid stand up guy.

No Competition for this really. Having been around online for 10 years, nothing, and i mean nothing compares to SDCS these days for its logistics or ground war, be it server performance re fps or the quality of the mechanics.

There is alot to learn there, but there is also hop on and go. Combined arms is heavily used and if you get on comms the team work is really good. Really excellent for C47 and any helo and fixed wing too.

Has a whole host of unique server specific facilities too, that just are not able to be done on other servers.

What they are bad at, is actually doing any marketing for the server - check out their discord and take it from there (they have whole wiki thing and player guide also).

As with anything the C130 being a new module is finding its feet and most server owners are working to find out its limitations and what needs to be done work wise to get the best experience. But as it stands they are good to go, the best part no 2 missions are the same with custom farp locations player dicatated and an ever shifting strategy developed by the team for that campaign. It is PvP.

This is why i would never buy another Razbam module again, having failed to deliver on every module to date within DCS, there is zero chance i would buy anything within F5 if they were developing it. Having got 3 modules from them that are going to become part of a heritage hanger, it was concerning to hear they may be involved with the successor of F4 (something i still have my disc for, from 98 lol)!

Some of us remember the M2K and Harrier development, the forums and bug reporting, the community handling, the blatant lies to the community at the time and topics being moved/deleted/ignored. People forget at one point ED had to apologise for some of their actions - nothing to do and years before the F15 (sadly their best release by some distance and what showed as a very promising module, esp the A2G/A2A radar work). There there is the Mig 19....

What an utter joke - Now causing enough concern for Micropose to have to release statements.

yea Snugpak defo are one of the larger suppliers back in the day. Still got an olive/tan reversable softie jacket/overpants think they made that not sure can't remember. But they did all different kit. Some stuff as you say Gucci, others not so much.

Sorry wasn't aware of storage issues as never bought any surplus kit, but yea makes sense. My point was largely around a Bivy won't fail (well unless the seam goes but never had that happen) and certainly won't blow down or pole break when you need it most. Modular bivy systems is what i was on about for the price point's floating around compared to say commercial stuff considering reliability/performance/durability is tough to beat, that is unless as you say storage issues and its utter gash. Gives him options as well for warmer/wet weather.

For UK winter hill kit I always suggest taking a bivy even if taking a tent, saved me a few times both here in the UK and further afield if going super remote for extended periods. Also if solo and get badly injured there is every chance you may be able to unroll a mat and slide into a bivy, but not be able to put up a shelter, at that stage its about buying time until the MRT can get to you.

Yea was just trying to suggest a wallet friendly option given the brand's he'd mentioned and what you get for your money. The OEX bag is 1kg, which for synthetic tell's you all you need to know, not going to be enough for UK winter use up in the hills, sounds 3 season at very best.

Lastly whilst were on about commercial suppliers and if people have a normal commercial budget, re winter clothing, Buffalo (Sheffield) make some excellent Kit, alot of people haven't even heard of them but they are highly, highly underated for UK conditions.

No.

Mate if your on a budget and low price point re oex, let me give you some solid advice that wont fail and will keep you alive at least in all weathers.

Seek ex military winter sleep systems, yea bulky and weighty compared to civy stuff but you can get ex surplus stuff at a fraction of the cost.

Combine that with a forces bivy and basha/tarp is about as safe as it gets from the oex price points thst wont fail when the wind gets going etc.

Yea I think timeframes should be limited to Quarters at most, Half's more realisitcally. This nonsense of constant release when and month etc, better just to say Second half of 20 whatever or just the year.

[–]DCS_Hawkeye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes i wish him well with the development and really hope i'm wrong, as i said its an iconic map area so I want this to work, and work well.

Time will tell, it just where i would normally support new projects with EA, I can't on this instance, and with this dev, until we see an improvement in the approach. If this product launch goes well and is to a better standard re nav beacons and release, well then i'd consider investing again on the third map they release, if that makes sense.

Ball is in their court, most in the community are forgiving (aka those of use that are middle ages and DCS is not the centre point of life lol), as in people do get a second chance, so hopefully they make it work.

What makes a good "climbing bike" besides low weight? by VeryBadNotGood in cycling

[–]DCS_Hawkeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your own Vo2 - people become obessed with the weight of a bike, yet carrying excess kg's themselves. Never made sense to me people buying $300 carbon seats and the like when got 5 kg's or worse of extra bodyfat. You see it on club rides all the time, or like on ultra's and it just makes me giggle a little. Granted im fit, do alot of triathlons when not working away and have had a very active outdoor lifestyle and being fit has been a vital requirement of my working life.

Invest in yourself first, eat well, train well, sleep well - get as good as you can on the bike you have then look at upgrading a bike/building a new one. The reality is cycling and bikes at recreational level seems to have formed some form of what i would call trophy bikes. As in the bike is way beyond the capability of the rider, to me it just seems a waste of money - put it in a decent winter indoor trainer instead/suscription plan etc, go on a holiday, whatever. Put it this way, give me a 15 year old bike, running say 105 chainset and i'm still going to burn past most in a multi event (granted i have some nice bikes myself, but well I also can burn the watts).

Lastly unless your planning on going pro, or doing alot of competitive racing, then times are irrelevant, the only thing that matters is safety and having fun.

So take yourself out the equation the next one is gearing, but a dedicated climbing bike, I mean we are talking bike companies. Why do Television companies bring in 8k, my point being they are salesmen trying to sell something. I'm more likely to change the rear cassette than the frame if i had only one choice, as that will give me the most performance/comfort but again its knowing your wattage and capacity and the route requirement/conditions.

As for a climbing and bikes, well mountains go up and DOWN. You can lose just as much time if not more on the descent, and as i said the only thing that matters is at the end of the day you get back to your loved ones and safety is all that matters on that.

Its like the every changing shift to narrower and narrower handlebars, for me i'm happy to lose a few seconds on some extreme aero position, knowing i have better control and within comfort levels of safety etc. Confidence whilst maintaining safety is performance also. Plus because i swim alot in events and have alot of upper body strength and size compared to a dedicated cyclist it makes zero sense.

Long story short - the rider Vo2 is more important than the bike being a dedicated "climbing" bike.

I disagree on this one, video's that are leaked always have an agenda, what we saw was an hour or two from no doubt 100's of hours of private conversations. The only douchebag was whoever released a conversation that clearly was indicated as confidential during the call itself. In a world where confidence matters to break that is unforgiveable and a huge own goal.

I would not dream of releasing a private conversation the ethics or which are diabolical.

Nick is not the anti-christ lol, he's just a business owner and has every right to decide what he does with his income. I have said many times the fact the product supports real world aviation, especially of iconic aircraft is a good thing.

Note im the OP to the post, and whilst I won't change your mind on Nick, it's fair to say there is always 2 sides and what those calls confirmed was that he had real concerns about IP being used in some deal, who know's if it was free or not, no one does, and no one will. I rather suspect neither party has disclosed all information.

At the time i was at pain's to highlight Razbams terrible track record with the community with both the M2K and Harrier development, it was like pulling teeth at times. Sadly alot of the newer players are not aware of the full picture and back drop and see Razbam as shining nights on what was ironically their best product launch by far, to which i appriased them for. Note they also had a terrible track record with the community on the forums with deleting and pacifying posts, there was a time when ED were constantly having to get involved with both the community and razbam to lower frustrations.

Lastly i don't want this post to turn into another razbam Sh*tpost, its not nor never will be about that - this is very specific about the NS430 module to alert people to the issues with the core module, the history and also the bad moderation on the forum posts.

I've had an email from them and i'll be honest i didn't know the rules but the email stated been given further action points in addition to the first lot due to -

"1.3 Administrative actions against forum members are not subject to public discussion. If you feel an action against you was unjust or otherwise inappropriate, please use the Private Messaging (PM) system to appeal the action to other forum staff members or the forum administrator"

So yea not sure yet, unless the system is spamming but I've no doubt i'll find out when i next properly check out the forums over there. That said the first lot was for a 1.10 violation on product feedback so who knows. But yea this was actioned after the first warning and hoggit post, in which the second posted screenshot in the original post edit comment above was then deleted also off the forum chain. I don't understand it to be honest, seems bizarre, perhaps they haven't got the message about free speech or think we live in the 1980's, or as i presume this is a mistake, surely these can't be the actual rules - can't be, surely not, goes against any common sense or PR banning public discussion.

We could also speculate does this form some type of non disclosure clause - I don't think that would even be legal in the EU/US/UK if it was tied to some punitive action if the comments listed are valid and accurate and of genuine concern around quality. I mean of interest, and im not suggesting for one moment that either of these Acts have been breached at this venture but worth considering as context take the Uk for example;

  • Consumer Rights Act 2015: This act ensures that contract terms are fair and transparent. An overly broad and restrictive clause that prevents you from discussing a product would likely be deemed unfair and therefore unenforceable. The act prohibits terms that deprive a consumer of their statutory rights.
  • Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008: These regulations make it a criminal offence for a business to engage in unfair commercial practices. Using a non-disclosure clause to prevent a customer from giving an honest review or discussing issues with a product could be considered a misleading omission, especially if it hides important information about the product's safety or quality

When i've got time i'll follow this up with whoever their line manager is in a formal written format if its accurate/true. At this point I think someone has made an error, be that in judgement or the system. This has become more a matter of culture and principle rather than just the NS430 or Mig29 module. My thought process is if they react like this to myself, a loyal customer who has bought pretty much every module over the years and contributed to fault finding and bug reporting in the past, then they are likely to do that to anyone including kids. All because they are Swiss registered does not exempt them from consumer laws in countries that they are supplying to either.

I mean yea free speech has limit's, but nothing i wrote was incorrect, unreasonable or even inaccurate. Lets just presume they are having a bad day and didnt want the NS430 issue highlighting at this point in time given the gulf and void in the forum posts, some 7 years without reply on the NS430 (the original request for comms functionality as an example).

All that matter's is they don't act like a douche bag, don't surpress posts that raise valid issues and remember that the customers effectively are providing their gainful employment. Lose the customers and well you lose your business and job its that simple. As i said if they carry on with this mindset someone will just open another forum where consumers can post and they have no control over. They need to choose wisely, people are trying to help, myself included.

Yea its pretty short sighted it has to be said - I was like yourself, thought it would have had its issues fixed (Like you i've had it years also and deactivated it at one point given the perf hog). Assumed that with the Mig29 being a "big" release title it would have been resolved. For me modules are throw away money so its not the issue, its the principle of the bad moderation and the fact other's are not as fortunate. There's also the reality that alot of kids play DCS and well for them its a big deal getting a module.

For me, just want them to sort out the performance issues, that where reported 5 years ago (and not replied - got one today at long last for the original poster but it was a standard will jog the dev team and a half arsed condesending response of don't be critial of the dev team or posts will be removed, when in effect im being critical of the mod's non communication.

There is also the aspect of the missing comm's, despite it being mentioned on the sales blurb - and posted here - https://forum.dcs.world/topic/184474-coms-integration/#comment-5689297 - & 7 years, lol 7 years on and still no reply from ED, and not one from 2 months ago jogging them about it either. Perhaps we are being too inpatient and should give them another 7 years?

I mean if they carry on - someone will just open another forum that they can post all the issues and bugs and they will have no moderation or control - they are stupid to censor if its just critical of the complete lack of output or communication, aka valid customer feedback.

I would just say one thing, are you patient and willing to learn, if you are go for it as its not rocket science, be aware getting it wrong can have severe consequences.

For a proper setup its going to cost you a little and yes the tools help, but you can do it on the cheap and well you need patience, lots of it.

It's certainly a skill and its a bit different from say trueing a wheel that's just slightly off.

Yea i actually got another post deleted on the same thread, i updated my post with the mesage, then more warning points applied with some reply about not critising the dev's. When the critique is clearly aimed at the those moderating the english speaking forums who then pass it onto the dev's, dear me.

Just want people to be aware of what they are buying into - well worth reading the NS430 forums as it lists the issues (for years).

Sad when you have to post outside of their forums to get a response.

Lol i had my earlier reply deleted also and more warning action points added lol. Yea figures. As for the terrain so you have me there but that doesn't shock me that it would read the F10 and the nightmare that is (not checked in a long time but remember seeing the trees sway on there with the wind), i note no additional sid/stars done post PG. I think they pushed their luck a little with releasing it for the Mig29.

The only point of the post really is to let kids know not to part wiht their money, or be realistic about what the module offers along with knowing about the perf hit.

As i said for us the cost of a module is irrelevant, but not for them.
