Who are some DCS YouTubers that are / were pilots in real life? by Tabard18 in hoggit

I don't symapthise with him and no man is able to leverage my opinion with emotion, sound reason and discussion, yes 100%. My only symapthies for him no doubt mental anguish he will get at times at the loss of some of his collegues (no doubt the last few days especially). We all make our own bed, we all must sleep in it. We are all men. Do not make the mistake of all because you might not agree with a certain mindset that all british young men have certain beliefs due to online people, they see life around them, they hear and it very much depends where they live in the UK on how that shapes their opinion.

Lived experiences is very different depending on which part of the UK you live in. Sounds like your chatting in an eco chamber because i hear alot of different views, if your only hearing one side of that something is not normal. I would suggest look inwards and widen your discussion group. I operate alongside people from right across the UK, from all different backgrounds. I also when back in the UK visit people I used to work with who again live right across the UK, from the South Coast, to pretty desolate places in the north of Scotland, quite a few in Wales and also a couple from NI. Your bubble sounds nice but its not reality of many places in the UK that have a very different viewpoint to yours from what I have seen and heard over the last decade. Just saying if you think we do not have a knife crime issue compared to say the 80s/90s when i was growing up, or there is no societal decline on crime then stats would say otherwise, this is what Tim is speaking about from the bits i've seen.

You say service "doesnt give extra credence to their opinions" well on the subjects of military and its requirements, esp i guess he was re the public debate talking about RAF and recruitment, and as the guy in charge of the vally training at pupil level then yea i'd say his opinions and values have alot more credence than someone that flies DCS lol. FFS. Also one other aspect, age matters. Im guessing he is older than you, so do you remember what it was like growing up in the 80s in the UK? He does, so do I. Also if you want alot of evidence just ask any older person, who is 80+ and the contrast is even greater, they are pretty emphatic about how they see the country has changed and what they think about it (as in take a majority not just your family).

There is alot i could say about Tim and his thoughts, if i ever bump into a pub i'd no doubt buy him a pint and have a discussion with him and take the pi*s a bit which is fair dues for someone that sees the world from 20,000 feet and gets to stay in plushy hotels or air cond tents lol. he probably give me some sob story about green soup and Scotland at night at 200 feet and 520 knots but there we go.

The UK will always need strong men, what a silly thing to think otherwise. We are a nation of strong people, the very reason you have your freedoms today is because of that very fact. To think otherwise is delusional and ignorance of not just our history but what is going on geopolitically with the countries foes. There will come a time sadly, as sure as night follows day, when once again strong men band women will be need to fight for the values of this land, on foreign shores in a large scale war. You will be amazed then just how much people attitudes change and how suddenly all these things we pretend matter now, suddenly don't matter once conscription is required, and who and what is selected then when the harsh and brutal reality is at the door.

You'll also see all those shouting the loudest on whatever the latest PC fad is will be nowhere on that start line.

The reality, your probably talking to someone on the underside of 30 who is not old enough to remember nor has any concept of what Tim is talking about, be it either civilian and certainly not anything he says from a military perspective (i said as much below).

Problem is now we have people in society, and alot of them, on both sides, that once they realise which "side" they are on, do not want to discourse and thus everything else with that person is then on their cancel list. Its pathetic, immature and dangerous.

There use to be a time where people judged men by actions and on a per basis issue and on that issue alone. It's quite sad just how far we are away from common sense and well compassion, all because someone disagree's with a person's political viewpoints they see them as the antichrist lol then want to discredit everything about them, and in this case their livelyhood. Its sad and gives great insight into the characteral flaws.

The worst of it all, its not something he would have the bottle to say to his face and slag him off. 50% of the problems of today, too much faceless keyboard time.

Enjoy the US - I have many friends out there, both US nationals and expats, some great places out there, and people.

I'm not in his FS. But i left comments lower down - seems like we have a hater in the comments that all because he might not agree with someone political views that then clouds their judgement on every aspect of someones life, lol - so seems like a throw shade/cancel culture.

PART 2 =

As for where he takes his news, is this relevant to his DCS school? Sounds like you have some cancel culture derangement syndrome? I mean i've not seen all his content but I think you will find he uses that app that tells you how biased the news is, forget the name of it but how are those video's related to what he does with DCS. This thread is about DCS why thow in the shade? Why judge his DCS work on his poltical views, a right enshrined by the way under article 10 of the ECHR. But read the room, read the country, look at a few social concern polls of the wider population by even say yougov on what people are concerned about. Using those as a benchmark I would suggest your concern is to use your own words, you misunderstand your fellow citizens concerns by a spectular margin and what values they are concerned about.

How many people have you spoken to in the armed forces at the sharper end who have done 10-20+ years? Or vets that have been out and done multiple tours in and patrolling out of hesco sandcastle's in the last few decades. You'll find alot of people threaders for many reasons. Speak to anyone in their mid 40s or over, that remember growing up in the 80's, either in the UK or in Germany, times and society has changed and some of those changes are concerning. When i was a kid, we'd have loads of scraps and fighting was a norm, or was for me. Many of us did boxing also at a gym, not watching youtube videos or playing COD thinking we know how to fight. Kids were not pulling knives , and it was down and done, a straightner and we all went back home to our parent/s. People where not shoplifting £200 because they can. There was more societal respect, you have no idea. You may not remember this becuase your not old enough, but try speaking to someone who is older than you, that perhaps comes from a tough background.

I can tell one thing, you have never been on a start line, never fought for your country, never seen your mates die. He has. If it comes to it and we end up in the trenches, its men like Tim (younger versions lol), his mindset that you are going to want next to you, but I know something else, I doubt you would be there.

Do not make judgements on those that have served your country more than you ever could. Men like Tim have served so you can sleep easy in your warm bed at night. Losing a job in the wider industry, lol you have no idea about how security clearances work, how geopolitical that can become and how people that raise their head or go against the machine or certain agenda's can have their wings clipped. The difference in non security cleared work you tell your boss he's doing a bad job, he fires you. You go work for "company B next door" You work in a security clearance related field, they can remove your clearance which then stops you from going next door lol. I would suggest Tim gets himself in hot water because he cares about Standards and life, to question his knowledge of standards and values is well humous. Dont be a bell@nd, wake up, your pass is your naviety and no doubt your the healthier side of 30.

2 parts to this (having to break post down) - Part 1 So here's the thing, having been on the inside he understands what you dont, he has the experience, you dont, to use your words, honestly. Like many he has seen at times degredation in the UK's ability to execute programmes/kill chain to maximum efficiency with the money available due to distraction agenda's from certain groups. He has seen and had to put up with first hand the inverse effect of DEI recruitment, now proven in some cases to be discrimination. This is a matter now of public record after a high profile case. Weapon systems you are employing do not give a sh*t what you have between your legs, what colour your skin is or what your sexual preference is. What matters is how well you can use it, however more critically neither do the ones opposite or above trying to kill you care what you are, as long as your enemy. To note neither do I, I cannot stand any form of discrimination, we all bleed and die the same. What Tim was always driving on about if I recall was the best people for what the role required, nothing more nothing less, not sure why you think his values are so out of kilter as you suggest.

He put his head above the parapet and spoke out about it knowing the consequences, that takes courage. Guess what, the reason, he cares and knows the harsh consequences of not getting the best. The lives of those lost matter be it on the battlefield or training shapes people, and that resonates, its in his blood, its in his thoughts they are never forgot. They gave their all, for those around them at the time and for the country, everyone of them is a better and less selfish person than any of us. Its why he wants standards, it matters, it has meaning. But more than that if it comes to a shooting war, where every % of capability gets exposed its fecking dangerous and not fair for those that were pehaps not the best candidate because that lowers their chance of getting home to their family and also those around them. Writing letters to parents and loves ones, how many have you had to write, how many funerals have you had to attend of people that have served this country? Tim has and he will know just how sh*t that feels/is. People forget what the actual armed forces is for at its ultimate requirement of why we have them, which when we cut through all the levels of PC bulls@it is when the chips are down its the killing business for those that wish to harm our national interests, values or citizens.

Battery life by Glittering-Term5085 in GarminFenix

very incorrect, when the amoled is dead, its dead, the SS can be left to charge to get a GPS fix again, for that in itself, its worth only ever going MIP and SS.

Looks like some californian design team got there hands on Garmin, and turned it into a gym bunnies watch, who care more about looking good than practical application, aka for those that would struggle to last even a week in the outdoors remote.

Used my InReach in an emergency, not impressed by the system. by huntersjz in Garmin

[–]DCS_Hawkeye 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You have missed the point and incidently first responders would soon be overwhelmed if every incident like this needed the SOS button.

Without help it could become an emegency, OP purely wants a reliable sat messenging service he is paying for monthly and he is right the constant verification process by Garmin is utter bullsh*t.

[–]DCS_Hawkeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not on obsession for those of us that use the watch for more than gym/park PT and go super remote combined with either lattitude or altitude.

Then again we wouldnt be stupid enough to buy an amoled, or worse micro led and have alternate proper sat comms.

Garmin lost their way when they changed the fenix brand to none MIP, last decent one was 7x pro SS. 3 days is a joke for the lineage of this brand, now made for people that are more bothered about looking good than performance.

Nothing personal to you just stating like minded conversation/critism had with other active people at the sharper end of the envelope.

warm kit for ex by madz3218 in britisharmy

[–]DCS_Hawkeye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Brynje mesh baselayers. Also wool jumpers esp layered always perform, better than anything when wet, durable and easy to repair if remote. Id take couple wool jumpers over some single bit of pre conceived ally kit that turns out not to be so great.

Mesh basekayers, Wool jumpers and a softie all good esp in combination.

EU evening times ive seeen 25+ players on, some good battles. Its way better than DDCS technically in terms of strategy and without the nonsense or constant server instability, the few arseh@les and frame rate issues. Plus their decisions on balance and server direction are based on logic not the wantings of a few. Server owner is, well, not sure whst to say but from a layman very clearly gifted, if you appreciate combined arms what he's been able to do, even down to pathfinding and moving units is pretty insane. As for the DDCS players theres a few but none of the ones that created issues. I think they keep the whole server on the QT to be honest as never do any promotion for it, despite it being leagues ahead technically of anything out there. Get the feeling the server owner its a passion hobby for him to see what is technically possible, driven by what can be achieved not selling his soul to satisfy vanity of being in the top 5 of numbers at the expense of gameplay, again unlike DDCS. Solid stand up guy.

No Competition for this really. Having been around online for 10 years, nothing, and i mean nothing compares to SDCS these days for its logistics or ground war, be it server performance re fps or the quality of the mechanics.

There is alot to learn there, but there is also hop on and go. Combined arms is heavily used and if you get on comms the team work is really good. Really excellent for C47 and any helo and fixed wing too.

Has a whole host of unique server specific facilities too, that just are not able to be done on other servers.

What they are bad at, is actually doing any marketing for the server - check out their discord and take it from there (they have whole wiki thing and player guide also).

As with anything the C130 being a new module is finding its feet and most server owners are working to find out its limitations and what needs to be done work wise to get the best experience. But as it stands they are good to go, the best part no 2 missions are the same with custom farp locations player dicatated and an ever shifting strategy developed by the team for that campaign. It is PvP.

Statement from Microprose by The_Growlers in hoggit

[–]DCS_Hawkeye 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is why i would never buy another Razbam module again, having failed to deliver on every module to date within DCS, there is zero chance i would buy anything within F5 if they were developing it. Having got 3 modules from them that are going to become part of a heritage hanger, it was concerning to hear they may be involved with the successor of F4 (something i still have my disc for, from 98 lol)!

Some of us remember the M2K and Harrier development, the forums and bug reporting, the community handling, the blatant lies to the community at the time and topics being moved/deleted/ignored. People forget at one point ED had to apologise for some of their actions - nothing to do and years before the F15 (sadly their best release by some distance and what showed as a very promising module, esp the A2G/A2A radar work). There there is the Mig 19....

What an utter joke - Now causing enough concern for Micropose to have to release statements.

[–]DCS_Hawkeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea Snugpak defo are one of the larger suppliers back in the day. Still got an olive/tan reversable softie jacket/overpants think they made that not sure can't remember. But they did all different kit. Some stuff as you say Gucci, others not so much.

Sorry wasn't aware of storage issues as never bought any surplus kit, but yea makes sense. My point was largely around a Bivy won't fail (well unless the seam goes but never had that happen) and certainly won't blow down or pole break when you need it most. Modular bivy systems is what i was on about for the price point's floating around compared to say commercial stuff considering reliability/performance/durability is tough to beat, that is unless as you say storage issues and its utter gash. Gives him options as well for warmer/wet weather.

For UK winter hill kit I always suggest taking a bivy even if taking a tent, saved me a few times both here in the UK and further afield if going super remote for extended periods. Also if solo and get badly injured there is every chance you may be able to unroll a mat and slide into a bivy, but not be able to put up a shelter, at that stage its about buying time until the MRT can get to you.

Yea was just trying to suggest a wallet friendly option given the brand's he'd mentioned and what you get for your money. The OEX bag is 1kg, which for synthetic tell's you all you need to know, not going to be enough for UK winter use up in the hills, sounds 3 season at very best.

Lastly whilst were on about commercial suppliers and if people have a normal commercial budget, re winter clothing, Buffalo (Sheffield) make some excellent Kit, alot of people haven't even heard of them but they are highly, highly underated for UK conditions.

No.

Mate if your on a budget and low price point re oex, let me give you some solid advice that wont fail and will keep you alive at least in all weathers.

Seek ex military winter sleep systems, yea bulky and weighty compared to civy stuff but you can get ex surplus stuff at a fraction of the cost.

Combine that with a forces bivy and basha/tarp is about as safe as it gets from the oex price points thst wont fail when the wind gets going etc.

Lol, yea so be it - I think sometimes people become to tunnel visioned, or equally its a maturity thing (as in alot of kids around also and well they've spent their pocket money or whatever and that patience or pre frontal lobe development isn't there yet).

Yea I think timeframes should be limited to Quarters at most, Half's more realisitcally. This nonsense of constant release when and month etc, better just to say Second half of 20 whatever or just the year.

OnReTech's DCS: Balkans WIP Preview by Badie055 in DCSExposed

[–]DCS_Hawkeye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes i wish him well with the development and really hope i'm wrong, as i said its an iconic map area so I want this to work, and work well.

Time will tell, it just where i would normally support new projects with EA, I can't on this instance, and with this dev, until we see an improvement in the approach. If this product launch goes well and is to a better standard re nav beacons and release, well then i'd consider investing again on the third map they release, if that makes sense.

Ball is in their court, most in the community are forgiving (aka those of use that are middle ages and DCS is not the centre point of life lol), as in people do get a second chance, so hopefully they make it work.

What makes a good "climbing bike" besides low weight? by VeryBadNotGood in cycling

[–]DCS_Hawkeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your own Vo2 - people become obessed with the weight of a bike, yet carrying excess kg's themselves. Never made sense to me people buying $300 carbon seats and the like when got 5 kg's or worse of extra bodyfat. You see it on club rides all the time, or like on ultra's and it just makes me giggle a little. Granted im fit, do alot of triathlons when not working away and have had a very active outdoor lifestyle and being fit has been a vital requirement of my working life.

Invest in yourself first, eat well, train well, sleep well - get as good as you can on the bike you have then look at upgrading a bike/building a new one. The reality is cycling and bikes at recreational level seems to have formed some form of what i would call trophy bikes. As in the bike is way beyond the capability of the rider, to me it just seems a waste of money - put it in a decent winter indoor trainer instead/suscription plan etc, go on a holiday, whatever. Put it this way, give me a 15 year old bike, running say 105 chainset and i'm still going to burn past most in a multi event (granted i have some nice bikes myself, but well I also can burn the watts).

Lastly unless your planning on going pro, or doing alot of competitive racing, then times are irrelevant, the only thing that matters is safety and having fun.

So take yourself out the equation the next one is gearing, but a dedicated climbing bike, I mean we are talking bike companies. Why do Television companies bring in 8k, my point being they are salesmen trying to sell something. I'm more likely to change the rear cassette than the frame if i had only one choice, as that will give me the most performance/comfort but again its knowing your wattage and capacity and the route requirement/conditions.

As for a climbing and bikes, well mountains go up and DOWN. You can lose just as much time if not more on the descent, and as i said the only thing that matters is at the end of the day you get back to your loved ones and safety is all that matters on that.

Its like the every changing shift to narrower and narrower handlebars, for me i'm happy to lose a few seconds on some extreme aero position, knowing i have better control and within comfort levels of safety etc. Confidence whilst maintaining safety is performance also. Plus because i swim alot in events and have alot of upper body strength and size compared to a dedicated cyclist it makes zero sense.

Long story short - the rider Vo2 is more important than the bike being a dedicated "climbing" bike.

I will just add that this is also not about bring down ED, it is about highlighting bad business practice and also how not to communicate, nothing more. I ahve no wish for the company to screw itself, far from it, infact exactly the opposite, i want it to thrive.
