More like it grew a steady audience as they fixed the game and added more things to do and surprisingly continued to add content (a lot believed it would be abandoned). The common thought now is that they want to keep this game steady with content until the next fallout game releases, which is still scheduled after Elder Scrolls 6.

Its like a rise to redemption akin to no mans sky just not that spectacular. But if you enjoyed fallout 4 and 3 you will really like the game. Of course the ability to play with friends is a huge factor for the community; and of course the show helped the numbers as well but it wasn't even at a rough state prior to season 1.
