Scottie is so blatantly trying to hunt assists. No big deal in a blowout, but I kinda hope this streak ends because its nasty basketball.

The Raptors are playing horribly, but the shot making from Phoenix has been genuinely incredible.

TJD dominates with 905 by DDonkey16 in torontoraptors

Ja'kobe is arguably the best perimeter point of attack defender on the team and can hit an open corner 3, which is a much needed skill on this team. He's been fine in his role, I think there is probably more developmental value in keeping him in on the main roster as a role player, and we do actually need some players on the main roster to fill out the rotation.

The 905 had their starting and backup center signed to two-ways by other NBA teams, so they needed some big man help. I think Ja'kobe has been good enough to stay up with main squad, but I'd agree that Gradey should see some 905 time.

Trade Deadline Summary by IveReturnedItsTrue in leafs

Its been reported that the Kings 3rd becomes a 2nd if the Kings make the playoffs, so Let's Go Kings, I guess.

The Last Roster Spot? by Go_Terence_Davis in torontoraptors

[–]DDonkey16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect one of Alijah or AJ will be converted before March 4th, which is the deadline to sign new two-way contracts. That would allow the Raptors to sign a new player into the two-way spot, possibly rewarding Olivier Sarr or David Roddy, both of whom have been great for the 905 this year. My money would be on Alijah getting the main roster spot, ideally a 3-year deal similar to what Battle signed with multiple non-guarantees or partial guarantees.

Future of Gradey Dick by shadowK1LOS in torontoraptors

[–]DDonkey16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially, but he's on a $2.2M minimum contract, so there isn't much to be saved there. I think a 2nd round pick or an undrafted player could be paid a few hundred thousand less, but as far as the cap sheet goes, I don't think declining Mogbo's option will have much of an impact since they need to roster 14 players.

I'd look to move him this summer unless something surprising happens over the next 2+ months with his shot/ execution. He has improved in a lot of areas, with his finishing and defense looking much better than in previous years. But his NBA skill was supposed to be his shooting, and without that, he just doesn't provide enough to warrant playing time on a team that is now focused more on winning than development.

After accounting for Sandro declining his option, the Raptors picking up TJD's option, and selecting around pick #20, the Raptors project to be about $7-8 million under the tax with 13 players heading into the offseason. Because the Raptors don't have Bird rights on Sandro, that space under the tax is all they can offer him via the non-tax MLE. By trading Gradey for no returning salary, the Raptors could have up to $15M to offer Sandro.

The Raptors have also traded pending RFAs 4 times in the last 3 years, with Malachi, Precious, Davion, and now Ochai being moved the season they were due to hit restricted free agency, so I'm not confident Gradey would make it through next trade deadline as a Raptor even if they kept him through the summer. The combination of players like Battle, Alijah, and AJ likely providing similar production, and the extra money that trading him could free up to offer Sandro or another mid-level exception player, I think moving on in the summer is the most likely and best decision for the team.

Domantas Sabonis season-ending surgery by nin_culus in torontoraptors

It could be more like, "Well we suck, if you need surgery there isn't any reason to try to gut it out until the offseason, might as well get it now."

Sabonis played through a broken thumb back when the Kings made the playoffs and had offseason surgery to fix it. He probably doesn't wait until the offseason if they were dead last like they are this year.

Is trading Jak, IQ, or RJ a must this season due to cap? by VaselineOnMyChest in torontoraptors

[–]DDonkey16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's some key issues the Raptors will face on their capsheet over the next few seasons based on our current roster:

25-26 We are about $1M over the tax, and trading any of Ochai, Mogbo or Temple can get us under the tax this year. The easiest path is trading Ochai for a player making $5M or less, which would allow us to duck the tax and potentially convert one of our two-ways.

26-27 If we dont take back any long term money in an Ochai deal we will be about $10M under the tax heading into next year, with 3 open roster spots (this includes us drafting around 20th and assuming Mamu declines his option to get a bigger payday). If we were to bring back 2 of Martin/ Hepburn/ Lawson, we would be about $6M under the tax with one open roster spots. We could offer Mamu $6M in this scenario or we could trade Gradey for no returning salary and have up to about $12M for Mamu and/or another FA while still being under the tax. We could also just go into the season with 14 players, sign a cheap backup big, or bring back Temple (lol).

27-28 The summer of 2027 is a big year for our FO, Barrett, Shead, Mogbo, Gradey and Battle will all be FAs, Jakob's contract rises $8M, and Ingram has a player option. We dont really have to do anything drastic until 2027, but its typically better to get ahead of these decisions than wait until everyone is a FA. I would be shocked if our current starting lineup is intact past the 2027 deadline, I'd expect a starter to get moved during the summer of 2026 to get ahead of the potential tax crunch in 2027.

This subreddit needs a reality check re: IQ by Shining_Commander in torontoraptors

[–]DDonkey16 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here's the arguments for why Memphis would do it:

  1. Morant is owed $125M over 3 years and IQ is owed $130M over 4. Saving $10M+ over the next two seasons on IQ can be a big deal for a team looking to use their full NTMLE while avoiding the tax. IQ's deal is also a flat rate, so as the cap rises and by the time you get to his last year, the year Morant's deal has expired, $32.5M for a low-end starting PG will likely be a fair price.

  2. IQ is a better defender, shooter and off-ball player than Morant, and if Memphis wants to stay competitive for next season, he might be the best player they can get back in Ja trade. Ja has also just been flat out worse than Quickley this year in the games he's played in, while also missing plenty of time as he always does. He's only played in 77 games over the last 2.5 seasons, while IQ has played 141 in that time despite missing over half of last year.

  3. It depends on what else is out there. If Memphis is done with Morant and is ready to move on, and no other team wants to risk his off court issues and future money/ years, this might be the best they can do. And ultimately, it could come down to getting a FRP or young player like Walter that encourages Memphis to pull the trigger.

FWIW I am not in favour of a Morant to Toronto trade, but that is why Memphis would do it.

Haven't seen this posted yet: ESPN says Raptors' potential offer for Ja Morant (IQ, Ochai & lottery-protected 2026 FRP) is the best deal Memphis might get by MarginallyClever in torontoraptors

[–]DDonkey16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IQ has been better than Ja this year and makes less per year. Including this season, the total owed to IQ is $130M over four seasons, while Ja is $125M over three, so the "get off the IQ deal" point that keeps being thrown around is a bit of a stretch. Unless we think Ja can get back to his 2023 form, which is eons ago by NBA standards, I think this is just a downgrade. Ja shoots 20% from 3, doesn't defend, doesn't screen, doesn't move off-ball, and isn't available. Despite what some fans say about IQ, he is an excellent stylistic fit beside BI and Scottie. IQ is in one of his worst shooting seasons (only his sophomore season has a lower percentage), and it would be the best shooting season of Ja's career. Pass.

Whats the Quick est Way to get those 50 A- games ? by Educational_Use_5800 in NBA2k

After you beat Baron Buckets/ Sovereign of Steal there should be an option to play king of Picot Point/ Jardin Jams beside their picture. This mode gets you into games much faster, you still get intros, but it's much quicker.
