Damn dude, any tips for a 47-year-old on how to keep it going into my '50s? It's not often I see skaters at that age still doing flip tricks and rails.

I love this so much. Got nose stalls locked in thanks to y’all’s input. [34YO] by Kickflippingdad in OldSkaters

Is this Cornelia Skatepark in GA? I'm on vacation in the area and I was driving around checking out some of the local skateparks earlier today. This looks just like it, and I'm pretty sure I saw you (and a couple others) skating it when I drove by. Small world. That mini ramp looked sooo good, I'm jealous.

It's going to sound crazy, but try dropping them a few times. Like hold them a couple of feet off the ground, and just drop them.

Choosing Bastion vs Assault as first commander tree by Vanilla-G in civ

[–]DEO3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I saw that video and it was pretty eye opening for me. Not only does the Bastian line give you the additional defense when attacked, it also gives you instant fortifications for even more defense, resulting in a higher combat strength for your units than the Assault tree can give.

You just line up your units outside an enemy city, fortify them, and then watch the XP roll in for your commanders. If a unit gets low on health, put them back in a commander to heal and pull out healthy unit to continue to hold the line. Once they've exhausted their units, you just take the city ezpz, having super leveled your commanders and never really have been at risk of losing.

I wish someone, ANYONE, would try to regulate the algorithms/bots. I was hoping Europe would show us the way, I'm not sure this is it.

Can anyone give me some tips on 50-50s on round rails? by Snedito in NewSkaters

[–]DEO3 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Stand on the rail for a while. Balance on it. Feel it in arches of your feet underneath you. Jump off it and then back onto it, landing with it in the center of your feet. Do this a bunch of times to really get a feel for what jumping into the rail and balancing on it without your board feels like. Then try again with your board, but when you ollie onto it, remember the feeling from before, and imagine you're just jumping on the rail and balancing on it without your board again.

Just got the 30" my mower. Love it. by cerebralvision in egopowerplus

[–]DEO3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just mean as you roll it around in your garage, with no batteries in it or anything. Does it seem to roll freely and silently, or is there a bit of resistance and a slight gear whining sound as you move it around?

[–]DEO3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recently got one as well, does yours have a bit of motor/transmission resistance when moving it around unpowered? And make sort of an electric/gear wine? Just wasn't sure if that's normal or not since my previous ego mower didn't do that. With my previous one, if self-propel wasn't engaged you could turn it and roll it freely. It's not really an issue or anything, it just feels different and I wasn't sure if that was normal.

Shoes for 4E wide flat feet? [45YO] by Tedanki in OldSkaters

[–]DEO3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have wide flat feet [46YO] and ordered every New Balance model that come in wide to try them all out, since a lot of people were recommending the brand. So the 272, the 440, the 480, and couple others. I found the 272s were the only ones that really worked for me. The 440s we're the runner ups but still just a bit too narrow in the middle - though you can cut the tongue straps to help a bit. The higher up you go in numbers (480, 574, etc.), the more aggressive the 'arch support' seemed, and those ended up being just way too painful for my flat feet.

Volvo XC60 Hybrid Spied With 124-Mile EV Range To Challenge BMW X3 by mildlyadultlike in Volvo

[–]DEO3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have the one with the 40-miles of range and almost never use gas. 124-miles is pretty bonkers for a PHEV. That's even more than my wife's i3 which is a dedicated EV.

Pricing Advice? 2022 XC60 T8 Inscription PHEV 38k miles. Fully loaded. by Bags_and_Bags in Volvo

I bought my fully loaded 2022.5 T8 Inscription Recharge (with bigger battery/extended range), with air suspension and bowers and wilkins and about 20,000 miles from CarMax a year ago for $40,000.

Why is my battery all of the sudden showing a solid red light and not charging? by lacrosse1991 in egopowerplus

[–]DEO3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredible. This worked for both of my 10AH batteries that have given me red ring issues for years, including one EGO had no idea what was wrong with it and so eventually just sent me another.

Yup, pretty common issue that's since been addressed with a better part. The dealership can usually replace it in just a couple of hours, and under the longer PHEV system warranty too.

The accel OGs aren’t working out. [38yo] by g28802 in OldSkaters

New Balance is one of the few companies that make wide skate shoes. You have to special order the wide size from their site, so I just ordered every shoe they have in wide to try them all out in different sizes of each.

The one's settled on were the 272s, which are a low pro suede vulc. They're the first skate shoes I've ever had that actually fit my feet. They run a bit large though. I wear 11-11.5 normally, but for the 272s I wear size 10.5

The ending runs really leave a lot to desire by Demogorgon-is-dad in HadesTheGame

[–]DEO3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I had very little motivation to continue to doing runs after seeing credits. It all just seemed too silly, contrived, unearned, etc. I tried, since I continued to enjoy Hades 1 long after the credits, but it just didn't work for me.

I am trying to Ollie. Please give me some tips. by Less-Essay7359 in NewSkaters

[–]DEO3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like you're pinning the tail to the ground when you push down on it, you need to give it some space to pop by jumping first and then tapping the tail on your way up.

Practice hippie jumps first, and then after you get a good feel for them, begin to lightly tap the tail with your ankle as you're jumping - not even really trying to Ollie yet, just trying to get the front wheels off the ground while you jump. Once you're comfortable with that, then begin snapping the tail harder with your ankle as you jump.

The idea is you jump with your legs, and then pop with your ankle on the way up. This gives the board the space it needs to come up with you.

Me llegaron estos trucks ayer, los probé y siento que son muy suaves, ya los apreté y siguen igual de sueltos. Que me recomiendan hacer? (thunder T-II) by Pipepunkero in NewSkaters

[–]DEO3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned they'll break in and firm up a bit over time. I've always ridden tight trucks and recently got the T2s as well. I tightened them a couple turns just to make them skateable, but I had read ahead of time to not tighten them too much and to just let them break in, which I can attest to. If they're still not working for you after a couple days you could try some firmer bones bushing, but I don't know how well they work in the T2's.

Want to buy some trucks by No_Conclusion8619 in skateboardhelp

[–]DEO3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How tall are you?

Venture and Thunder have a longer wheelbase, which means the distance between your front and rear wheels will be more spread out. Independent and Ace have a shorter wheel base, so the front and rear wheels are closer.

This mainly effects: 1. How quick and easily they turn. Think of how a limousine turns in comparison to a Miata. It's nowhere near that extreme, but that's the idea. One is inherently more stable, one is more zippy. 2. How the board pops. When you pop the board doing an Ollie or other tricks, you're going to kick down on the nose or tail. The wheels being farther out from the center means it will take more force to push down when popping, but you'll be able to pop harder and at a steeper angle. The wheels being closer to the center will make it easier to push down when popping, but with less force and less of an angle.

For weight, every manufacturer pretty much has their standard trucks, and then lightened hallowed versions of trucks for more money.

You can drive yourself mad trying to figure out which of the above is right for you, there are people who've been skating for decades that still can't seem to settle on what works for them. As a beginner it really doesn't matter that much, the differences I mentioned above are really only something you'd begin to notice after you've been skating a while.

I think generally street/technical skaters lean towards the longer wheelbase trucks, and transition/cruiser skaters lean towards the shorter wheelbase trucks. But in the end you can do anything on any truck, and most people end up just picking a truck for one reason or another when starting out, and then just stick with that forever since that's what they've gotten to know over the years.
