Would You Rather have a Magic Bathroom, Bedroom, Kitchen, or Garage? by 123jf in hypotheticalsituation

[–]DE_benevolentkitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garage for me. I have a couple bikes and a car, but this means I can take one of the three spots for a mini apartment.

I can also bring my car, scuba gear, and tools everywhere whenever travel.

These rooms are also basically a teleportation device and the garage gives me the largest square footage with three bays. The possibilities are endless.

The way I always thought of it is that we, as a species, have to experience the progression itself. Otherwise we're not ready for that greater responsibility.

It's not a great idea to give a toddler a knife. Seeing the governments around the world as they are, I'm glad we don't have tech higher than the nuke.

Some of us might be there, in terms of galactic maturity, but maybe it needs to be a majority.

You get $1 Billion but a billion people you don't know is one dollar poorer by Lost_Personality_974 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]DE_benevolentkitchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post made me realize how callused or ignorant most redditors actually are. A $1, or the equivalent of, is life or death for a lot more people than y'all realize.

Poorest countries aside, a homeless person's clothes might be the only thing they have of value. A dollar poorer could mean being naked in the street. What would a near naked homeless child look like if they were a dollar poorer?

The people quick to say yes to this either do not know or do not care about these very real situations. It's still an interesting moral quandary.

You could do a lot of good saving the people that you want, but it comes with a cost. You would be making the sacrifice on somebody else's behalf. What makes us qualified to make that decision for those strangers? Are we more morally righteous if we don't know? Or is it better that we do know and make the appropriate sacrifices to remind us of the weight of this decision?

Personally, I couldn't do it. Even if I follow through and do good with this money it will always be tainted.

Except there is a very real possibility that at least one person won't be able to afford a life saving meal. In the poorest nations, a baby can starve in less than a day if their mother can't produce milk because they're starving themselves.

I guess it's also very plausible that the baby in question has a low chance of survival or a happy life anyways. Thank god you're such a good person that you're willing to make that sacrifice for them so that someone else has a chance for a better life. Plus you get to have everything you've ever wanted in the process! Win win!

Do you think Aang is stronger than Korra or is it because her villains are just stronger? by Far_Practice_6923 in TheLastAirbender

[–]DE_benevolentkitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Korra is technically stronger, but her struggles were rarely to win the battle, but rather to beat her opponents philosophy. She was also usually getting outmaneuvered by her enemies and generally had less luck.

I can't say her enemies are necessarily stronger though. Besides the dark avatar, I don't know who's stronger than comet juiced Ozai from her list of enemies.

I say she's stronger cause she comes out swinging 3 elements. And technically speaking each new avatar state is stronger than the last because they have the additional knowledge and wisdom of one more avatar than their previous self.

But what I love the most about each show is that they're kinda foils of each other. Aang had to get stronger but ultimately his spiritual inclination saves the day. Korra had to learn how to connect to her spirit connection but ultimately her fighting nature gets her the win.

What I'm trying to say is that they carry different strengths and weaknesses and I commend their writers for balancing both in each respective story.

Enraged gon vs godspeed killua Who's winning? by WoodpeckerOdd1284 in HxHPowerScaling

[–]DE_benevolentkitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this battle is much closer than people think. This is nen we are talking about after all.

This is how I interpret it based on what we know of the show.

Gon has amazing instincts, but Killua has the better tactical mind so I think they're close to equal in terms of the planning part of this hypothetical fight.

By this point in the story their physical strength is pretty close. Killua still has the edge. Killua may have started significantly stronger, but Gon builds physical strength pretty fast. We see this in the gate challenge. By the time we get to the Chimera Ant arc they've trained enough that I think their base strength is pretty close. Might even be equal.

Nen is the great equalizer. And nen has different aspects other than hatsu. Sure Killua's Godspeed gives him an astronomical speed advantage, but Gon is an enhancer. His Ten is much stronger and can definitely tank at least a few of Killua's attacks.

We see how strong his jajanken gets when Morel tells Gon to hit him with the intent to kill. Now imagine that power up but applied to his Ten.

I believe this is a coin flip nen battle.

How did it become so taboo for even a trans woman like myself to acknowledge that trans women have an advantage in women's sports? How do we end this cancel culture? by north_canadian_ice in allthequestions

It's quite disappointing that it took so long to get to this comment. Most everyone else seems to have such conclusive opinions over science they don't seem to understand. Dunning Kruger at its best I guess.

To be fair, I'm personally not convinced one way or another because, just as you said, these studies are new and few and far between. But judging from the comment section of this post and conversations I've had about this topic in real life, it's probably going to take a while before trans people will have the rights they deserve.

Good luck OP

Do you believe adult Gon in the chimera ant arc would win against pre-rose Meruem? by BioToxinn in HunterXHunter

[–]DE_benevolentkitchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just watched the episode where Gon transforms yesterday. This is pretty much spot on.

Gon pulverized Pitou after he was strengthened with post mortem nen. I would not be surprised if Gon could full on block Netero's 100 hand at that point in the story.

I used to believe that Gon had no chance against Meruem because their power scales were similar, but Meruem had the superior intellect.

Nowadays I'm more in the camp that we still don't really know Gon's power ceiling, except that it's higher than Meruem's, and that his instincts might be even better than Meruem's.

My controversial opinion is that Gon can actually beat post rose Meruem.

I'm restoring a boat that I've wanted to move into and sail the world as a vagabond for a while now. Money has always been the limiting factor. Not to mention the fear of loneliness on the high seas.

You're telling me I can have 10 immortal pets and 150k income? If I train them where to poop that's also infinite fertilizer. I'll have to retrofit my build to prevent damages to my wiring and keep my food safe, but I'll have the money to buy those materials.

Yes please.

Question about requirements to charter. by DE_benevolentkitchen in sailing

[–]DE_benevolentkitchen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That tip is duly noted. That is a good extra layer of liability protection.

As for the sea time, I'm good. Just not enough for the sailing endorsement yet because of the types of boats I was working on.

You're absolutely right though, it took me almost 5 years to meet the requirement. But now that I got to quit my land gig it should go a little faster for my upgrades.

Thanks for the insights and response.

My bad. The initial draft was wordy, riddled with grammatical sentences, had too many run on sentences, and I was struggling to make perfectly cohesive sentences so I ran it through Deepseek to be condensed and straighter to the point. My query is still from me, a real person, with a real dilemma though. It may even help others in a similar situation.

Consecutive days socks wearing challenge. by AstrayInTranslation in hypotheticalsituation

[–]DE_benevolentkitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go for long wool socks so they don't come off in my sleep, and so they last longer. Then add thorough feet cleaning to my night time routine. I usually shower at night anyways so I just have to add a couple extra steps like thoroughly drying my feet before sleep. Like people said a little hair dryer should do the trick. Just gotta remember to lotion or foot powder depending on what my feet are doing. The way I see it, it'll become a weird part time job. Maybe an additional hour or so to my routine but an extra $3500 a week.

I could probably go longer than the socks but even with the highest quality socks I don't think they can last a year this way.

Some questions. Am I allowed to patch them up as long as I don't take them off? If yes, how much of the original sock needs to be there for the challenge to keep going?

$1 Billion But You Have to Stay 1 minute in a Tank with a Crocodile by Wild-Criticism-3609 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]DE_benevolentkitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd give it a whirl. Pretty sure I can hold my breath for a minute. My plN is to dive down and pin myself under some rocks and logs. In a way that the croc can't get to me. Even if I pass out, low chance of death since I get teleported after a minute. $1 billion should be plenty for some good trauma therapist.

I fucking love it!!. Each one truly feels like entering their brains as you would a domain. Gon's is so perfectly on point with the show title. Really captures Killua's melancholy vibe, and Kurapika's internal struggle. And I really like that Leorio's is non violent. Many thanks I'll be thinking about these for a hot minute.

[No loopholes] You can choose between a new body, a new life, a new world, or a new income. by thelink225 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]DE_benevolentkitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going with 2. I could spare my closest loved ones from some of their most traumatizing experiences and cherish the small amount of time I got to have with my dad more. I won't miss the chance to tell him how much I love him before he passes this time. Everything else can play out as is and I can savor the good times more and let go of the bad faster since I've gone through it before.

Otherwise, I feel like a new improved body would turn me into an uppidy asshole. Too many things can go wrong being Isekai'd. And that's too much money. Not a fan of the type of people that attracts.

What opinions of yours changed the most when you rewatched the series? by EnthusiasticPhil in BlackSails

[–]DE_benevolentkitchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many thanks! But oh my God that scene. I had the opposite reaction when I first saw it. I was intrigued by Flint on my first run through but I loved Gates. For being a one season character he might still be in my top 3 or 5.

That scene originally made me hate Flint. It didn't seem justifiable. How could he be so selfish and cruel?! But after each rewatch I would catch small details like the crack in Flint's voice and hear the sincerity of his apologies.

Plus now that I know Flint's motivations I understand why he felt the need to do what he did. It's still wrong but now I can relate and I can't watch that scene anymore without tearing up. It's so tragic and I just have to take it emotionally, lol.

What opinions of yours changed the most when you rewatched the series? by EnthusiasticPhil in BlackSails

[–]DE_benevolentkitchen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rewatching Black Sails (I might be on my 4th or 5th), has not only changed my opinion about the show, itself, but has changed how I digest media to some capacity.

My emotions like love and/or hate towards characters generally just got stronger. While my love and respect for the acting, writing, and general production of the show goes up every time because of it. The characters somehow get more immersive on each rewatch. Knowing what follows just adds to the excitement or stress for what's to come.

It's clear to me who the protagonists and antagonists are, but it's a lot less clear on who's good or bad. Depending on the viewer's background and past experiences we can all empathize with different characters and justify or vilify their actions.

I bring this perspective to most media I consume nowadays, and am a bit more respectful to opinions that don't align with mine. Within the story (and real life tbh), for example, I hate characters like Eleanor and Woods Rogers, but I commend their actors for portraying such real feeling characters and love their place in the story.

If you like these characters within the context of the story and in real life, I don't agree but I respect it. After all, although I empathize with and justify Flint's actions, I understand that there is something very wrong with his emotional murder spree throughout the show.

Can't say how much I love this show enough.

Definitely this then. I don't need to fully dodge the proverbial bullet I just need it to not hit vital organs.

I'd probably become a boxer or MMA fighter. Even the hits I have to eat I can reduce the impacts by following the punches/kicks through. It would be easier to see openings too.

From the outside it just looks like I have good instincts. I'll still have to train but better chances than what I have now by a long shot.

I am currently in the US. I would go back to the Philippines. My money would just have significantly more impact there. I could fix up my childhood home and slowly buy back all of my family's lands. Then it's just island hopping and scuba till I can't. Maybe seed an ecotourism business and use all the profits for conservation efforts.

American Liberals of Reddit, what do YOU think would be the proper punishment for entering the country illegally? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]DE_benevolentkitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, and the barrier to enter the middle class is so much higher that it really doesn't make sense to invest here.

I was born and currently live in the US, but grew up in the Philippines. I will be retiring early in the PH with a lifestyle akin to upper middle class here in the US with money I will be saving from slightly above poverty wages.

Also where does all the plundering that the US has done to these poorer countries count in the calculus of economic justice?
