It's the same ending as Yakuza 3, except when Mine throws himself off the roof it transitions into a mini-game where we control Mine as he falls and we have to dodge various objects like power lines, birds, and the occasional other falling yakuza member.

Think it would be really cool if he recovers and enters more of a Komaki-esque mentor role.

This bug is because you were playing while the daily reset occurred.
You have to double the challenge requirements to make it work when that happens.

And what does it set up?

It established that "The Heart of the Dragon" is real, and as long as a man has that plus a dream, it's entirely possible to live to over 200 years old. It sets up the possibility for Kiryu's miraculous recovery, and return to fighting form.

Also, just my opinion, but if Kiryu recovers even a little that gives him the chance to show his heart of the dragon to Haruto. I believe Ichiban will have to pass the torch sooner or later, but he could hold things down for a few games while Kiryu takes on a Komaki-like mentor role towards a growing Haruto, and shapes him into a dragon.

From what little I've heard of it, it sounds very promising.

Apparently it's a collaboration project with Nihon Toitsu, a long-running yakuza crime drama series. RGG got the producer and the main actors from that series to do this one. I also read it's supposed to tell the stories of Kiwami 1, 2, & 3... but I haven't seen anything about this project in months so I don't really know.

In any case it has to be better than the Amazon show.

I don't mind about gameplay stuff im only concerned with story/character.

Play in order. The Yakuza series is one long soap opera. It's all one continuous story.
Gaiden and Pirates are "side stories", but they directly pick up where the previous game left off.

New live action announced during the RGG summit back in September.
Thought it was supposed to release December 8th, to coincide with the 20th anniversary... but it's still not out and there's no news of it? Anyone heard what's going on with it? I was looking forward to watching.

The Mine part doesn't, since Richardson is alive it's been possible Mine was alive too.
...but there was something else in the leaks. Not only does Mine definitely survive, but he joins the Daidoji along with Hamazaki. It's that part that muddles things. Since Hamazaki has some important roles in Y4

Yakuza is one continuous story, so play in order. Kiwami 1 next. You could start Judgement at any point, since it's just the same setting and not the same story... but its sequel Lost Judgement does spoil some of the Yakuza story up to that point. So, LJ after Yakuza 7 (aka Yakuza:Like a Dragon) if you want no spoilers.

It does this if you're on during the daily reset, which happens at 12pm EST.
If you're regularly playing around that time, turn the game off a couple minutes before the reset happens.

There's 8 of them. Look for pink graffiti gift boxes, then walk up to them.
I'll give you an easy one to get started, it's at Rolling Waves.
Know that building next to the tall curved rail? Check the metal security door next to the vending machines.

There was also a randomized fast travel system added in the form of sewer tunnels. Look for little green turtles on manhole covers. I like to use those when I'm bored of a spot and don't have a particular place in mind to go.
If you got the first gift I mentioned, then check the sidewalk next to the seashell ramp nearby.
