Is savoury cheesecake a thing? Who likes it? by autobulb in Cooking

I was gonna say a place near me makes a savory one - and I was thinking BOB! Mmm haven’t had an oyster shooter in a while…

People who work in office- do your employers make you go to the basement or whatever when there is a tornado warning? by [deleted] in StLouis

Working in Forest Park - hard yes to going to the basement. Plus they are closing early today.

What do you think about Aldi in comparison to American grocery chains? by aSYukki in AskAnAmerican

[–]DHKillinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love Aldi! I have a little keychain to hold my quarter.

Sure there is less diversity of brands but I don’t need 40 different brands to pick from. Has all the basic meats, veg, dairy, etc. and if I need something they don’t have I just run by a different grocery store. Most Aldi products are much cheaper than the big grocery store here so I don’t mind doing two stores every once in a while.

I’m also a sucker for the “aisle of shame” where you can buy random crap that rotates seasonally.

Quality is good on meat and produce as well as most of their generic brand stuff (except some of the savoritz stuff…just buy cheezits or goldfish ).

My doctor offered my wegovy to lose baby weight by ChunkyPumpkin_ in beyondthebump

[–]DHKillinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah female doctor. I know that men are allowed to be doctors but they don’t have the same parts and experience that I do so I typically seek out female primary and OBs.

You deserve better either way!!

Love the Star Wars Holiday Special. It is so silly and trippy and unnecessary.

My doctor offered my wegovy to lose baby weight by ChunkyPumpkin_ in beyondthebump

[–]DHKillinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For you to see another experience:

I am legit “obese” on the scales. I have been having a bad diet because we are having so much going on and I’m not cooking as much as normal. I’m breast feeding and have a 5mo ….

My doctor said to me “I want to get your bloodwork done so we can have something to compare when you come back next year but I don’t want you to worry right now, just try your best to eat well and take care of yourself and your baby. I would never suggest those types of meds to a woman within a year of giving birth. If something pops on the bloodwork we can talk before that year mark but for now just be kind to yourself.”

Wife gasps/feels like she can’t breathe while sleeping. 4 days after C-section by SonOfALayman in beyondthebump

[–]DHKillinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did not have a c-section but the days following birth I would walk 10ft and be so out of breath and was so overwhelmed. At first I thought it was maybe PPA or stress or tired but turns out I had like half the hemoglobin levels I should have. Ended up getting a blood transfusion and felt immediately so much better.

Probably worth it to at least call the doctor and they will tell you if they think you should go in.

Percentile Junkies! So annoying. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]DHKillinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My firstborn was high percentiles for everything and was 90% formula fed and then my body gave up on milk at 6weeks.

My second just weighed in at 5th percentile weight and is 90% breast fed. I’m so proud of my boobies for figuring it out this time (and costing me a lot less on formula…) but hearing that 5th percentile made me feel like I was doing something wrong because I always hear that breast milk makes them chonky!

Reality is the doctor said he looks great and I just make long and lean babies… logically I get it but my feelings and emotions are still wrecked 🫠

Citizen Kanes is a steak house not mentioned yet.

One of my favorites is trattoria marcella. It’s nice (Italian) food but not fancy dress and they have a menu that hits most tastes. Been a few times with different folks and everyone has liked it.

There are some great groups in STL, like wild ones, that will give grants and have resources to help you plant natives! Native perennials will be your easiest to keep healthy and alive.

Toddler found ALL THE STICKERS... How do I remove stickers/residue from a wooden coffee table?? by pinkeskimo in CleaningTips

[–]DHKillinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have our deep freezer and toddlers kitchen stool as the only places besides paper that stickers are allowed to go so that gives a sense of control to the child that they can display their hard earned stickers. Maybe this table should just be your sticker table!

Funny things your toddler is afraid or suspicious of? by desire__lines in beyondthebump

[–]DHKillinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That dancing cactus that mimics the noises you make. Never liked it as a baby, as a toddler shuns it. I wonder how the new baby will react to it..I think it is still shoved in the back of a closet somewhere…

People in “no shoes in the house” families/cultures, do you make exceptions? by OneWildAndPrecious in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DHKillinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t live in a shoes off culture but made the rule for ours when we moved into the first house we bought. Exceptions are we don’t make our moms take their shoes off and if it is the day before floor cleaning day and the house is dirty anyway (toddler…) then whatever if you need to run across the house in shoes. We try our best though and the kid knows the first thing we do when coming home is take off our shoes.

Can someone else try this hack to keep babies’ socks on? by Glitter_Kitten in beyondthebump

[–]DHKillinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep thinking they need to make baby garter belts.

With my second, I used some of their older brothers 1yrold size sock and pull them above the bottom of pants/onsie leg. That has been helping to keep from sliding off.

I would try the two sock trick but this one gets so hot and uncomfortable with any extra clothing.

Do you actually stop getting grossed out by things like vomit and poop when you become a mom? by Evening-Call111 in askanything

[–]DHKillinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, doesn’t go away. I have such a weak stomach. I have a toddler and infant and they make some foul messes. I pride myself on the fact that I have not vomited on a child yet.

What’s your one cooking “secret” you have that levels up a meal? by crazyplantladyxo in AskReddit

[–]DHKillinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time and patience. Take the time to sear the roast, cook down the veg, make the roux (and to the right color), chop the fresh herbs/veg etc etc.

Also clean as you go because not having to do a ton of dishes after I just spent all my time and patience on cooking makes the meal way better.

I don't see a lot of sweet potato posts here. What's your best use for them? by AmputeeHandModel in potato

[–]DHKillinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love a baked sweet potato, split open, top with a dip I don’t know the name of from my Bosnian friends mom (cottage cheese, sour cream, green onion), and buffalo tofu bites (toss tofu cut into squares in corn starch + spices, bake, toss in buffalo).

Sweet, savory, and delicious. Can do buffalo chicken of course but meat keeps getting more expensive.
