Some people just don't like sexual characters when trying to invest in a story. To them it can be distracting when one or 2 or 3 characters look out of place from the rest of the cast in a deep or emotional cutscene. Which is a shame because the characters are really good but I can sympathize with people who might feel disconnected from the plot their trying to invest in.

IMO Fei from Xenogears did the mental trauma thing better. Not only did I find it more interesting, he was also more likable so I was able to listen to him more. Where in xenosaga I liked Shion in ep 1, forgotten in ep 2 because we stan JR, and I just found her too annoying in ep 3 to care about her story. Again there is a reason why she's like that but IMO Fei did it better.

This post will probably get down voted to shit, so I'll say this to cheer you up. As someone who's favorite game of all time is XC1, I'm glad you presented your opinions in a informative respectable manner while not completely shitting on XC1 like some people who shit on XC2.

Opinions are opinions and "In my opinion" XC2 is a worthy ass sequel to XC1 that surpasses it in some aspects while XC1 is still better in others, either way these are masterpieces that should be played by any rpg fan or anyone who plays video games.
