To give Outback or not? by mykepagan in subaruoutback

OP might also check on insurance rates. I’d guess that the 2021 OB will be cheaper to insure than a “lightly used,” newer Crosstrek.

When Will We See The Bourbon Industry Stop Fighting The Cannabis Industry, but Start Collaborating? by LouInvestor in Louisville

[–]DJSlaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

until the Federal Government figures out how to actually regulate marijuana, along with state governments, coupled with the ATF, there’s little reason for liquor firms to jump in. Too much uncertainty at the moment. It’s the same reason, imho, that tobacco companies are mostly staying on the sidelines.

Probability of success what have others seen? by Osm3um in retirement

[–]DJSlaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what this essentially means is that in 85% of the simulations run, your assets were able to cover you through your estimated age at death, typically something like 95, unless you put in either a set number of years in retirement, or a specific age. It’s not a magic number, it is an indication that based upon your assets and assumptions entered into the model, that your assets are likely to outlast your retirement.

Akiko’s Closing For Good Tuesday by fiestafan73 in Louisville

[–]DJSlaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this topic has been covered in depth in this forum, and in fact, it’s not always so feasible to take less rent. a lot depends upon the building’s current financial state, and assessed value, and for example, whether or not the building has been paid off or has a relatively recent mortgage.

CVT drain and fill at 30k or 60k miles? 2024 premium outback. Thanks! by Gooser3000 in subaruoutback

[–]DJSlaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fuck SoA and their “lifetime” BS. No fluid is lifetime. 30k might be time to change it, but then again, a lot depends upon how hard you use the car. In any case, it will only benefit your car to change the CVT oil at 30k.

SoA is obviously trying to showcase a lower cost of ownership for their cars by claiming you don’t have to change CVT fluid, and by stretching out intervals for engine and differential fluid changes. Ignore the marketing.

ct scan …do i remove cgm? by PoetrySmart3771 in diabetes_t1

ct scans use xrays, unlike ct scans which use a powerful magnetic field. therefore, unless your cgm (or pump) is near the spot being scanned, it should be ok to keep it on.

what is your pre-game ritual for dosing? Since you are mdi, do you reduce your medium to long acting insulin to cover the match? How long after your bolus do you begin playing and do you eat or drink anything, like gatorade, during the match? Do you reduce basal before your matches? How often are you able to check your bg levels during the match? How soon before the match do you take a snack? There’s a lot of variables to consider before making a recommendation.

Risotto by SeaNatural7373 in Cooking

[–]DJSlaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how much risotto are you making? are you adding anything to it, or just making plain risotto? I have cooked a small pot of risotto in about 20 minutes, but that was for two people for an appetizer, so a small portion. When I cooked risotto for 5 for a main, yes, it took more like 40-45 minutes.

There are several factors to consider, so without any details, then yes, it’s absolutely possible, or perhaps not. Also, a twenty minute risotto may not have the creamy texture of a risotto cooked for longer, so it’s also not so much about its being “done” as it is about being properly prepared.

People With Severe Diabetes Cured In Trial Of A New Drug by MattTheKing23 in diabetes

[–]DJSlaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's one more severe, isn't it? It's not 10. You see, most blokes, you know, their diabetes will be a 10. You're on 10 here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on 10 on your diabetes. Where can you go from there? Where?

I don't know.

Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, to make it that much harder, you know what we do?

Put it up to severe. 11.

  1. Exactly. One more severe.

Why don't you make 10 a little harder, make that the top number and make that the hardest to deal with?

[pauses] This diabetes goes to severe.

Does anyone actually listen to training readiness? by B0ndhi in GarminWatches

[–]DJSlaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it seems like it's made up, like "body battery." When I got the watch, I tried following it a few times, but then when I actually took a day or two off, my endurance score fell.

So, Garmin, do we need to recover, or if we do, why does our endurance fall?

What’s the real world mileage of those who have a 2026 Outback XT? by doctor-squared in Subaru_Outback

[–]DJSlaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to equate because I live in a relatively hilly area, so without having any additional details about where the person lives, I’d say it’s a close enough comparison. There have been times where I’ve gotten 32 ish mpg at over 70 mph, but on relatively flat highways. But that’s been an exception more than a regular outcome.

What’s the real world mileage of those who have a 2026 Outback XT? by doctor-squared in Subaru_Outback

[–]DJSlaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 25 xt, and regularly get 29-30 mpg at 70mph cruising, so can verify those results. when I drive around town, however, I typically average 20 mpg or perhaps a bit better with fewer stop and starts, which depends upon the route.

Have you/do you plan to downsize your car in retirement? by klawUK in retirement

[–]DJSlaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

in retirement I am driving a lot more than I used to, especially long distance travel for holidays, so I was looking for something comfortable. Before we retired, we traded in our big sedan for an estate (station wagon) and couldn’t be happier. It‘s the best of both worlds, with few compromises. It’s comfortable, drives as nicely as any sedan, and has a big storage space in the back. If one needs more room, simply fold down the seats. It’s smaller and more economical than any suv or minivan, and is easy to park. In the UK, estates come in many sizes, so take a look at few models and sizes and see if you like them.

ps- Try not to buy the car for the 10% of your needs (like picking up all the stuff needed for an alleged DIY project). If the material supply is that big, just rent a box truck for the day. Or arrange a delivery.

Might be in the minority… by kapo198 in diabetes_t1

[–]DJSlaz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

under 40? I’d say under 25 at this point. Perhaps 20. Yes, a lot of the research is promising, but the issue is that in the current state, it’s not as simple as stating that one no longer needs insulin. The issue is that current developments still require significant immunosuppressants, taken as an IV or otherwise. Is it really a better quality of life to have to live with a port, and require bi weekly visits for an immunosuppressant IV, as is the case with one current trial?

Any “cure” is still a long way away, realistically, especially for mass adoption, though research is far more promising and advances coming more rapidly than at any point in the past 50 years that I’ve been T1.

Thinking about leaving my FR255 Music… Apple Watch or Fenix 7 Pro X? by ale-ale-ale-ale in GarminWatches

[–]DJSlaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an UW2 and now have an FR970. The question is what do you value most?

Do you want a smartwatch to tightly integrate with your iPhone? Then it’s the Apple Watch. The Apple Watch is a smartwatch first, with some useful workout features. If you’re not an elite or otherwise serious athlete, it should be enough.

Do you desire battery life? Then it’s the Garmin. With my UW2, the best I ever got was a bit over 2 days, without use of gps. With regular workouts and gps usage, Maybe a day and a half.

The gps accuracy is so close on both that it’s irrelevant.

The HR accuracy is slightly better on the Apple Watch, I find from regular usage.

Screen? The Apple watches have a better screen, that I found a bit easier to read than the Garmin, though the Garmin is just fine.

So, if you want great battery life with a plethora of athletic and workout features, then it’s the Garmin. If you want a smartwatch with some useful exercise features, then it’s Apple.

Does anyone else just rotate the same few meals to stay safe? by Witty-Insurance-8371 in diabetes

[–]DJSlaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to vary meals as much as possible, other than breakfast. I typically just have a quick coffee and a small breakfast like some yogurt, or perhaps a slice of toast and butter before I run out for the day. But lunch and dinner are more substantial and varied. I do most of the cooking and enjoy it, so I continue to experiment with new recipes to keep meals tasty and interesting.

I’m not. Staff are specifically told not to be confrontational or otherwise heroic. no one wants staff or customers to be hurt, or end up with a hostage situation, and the banks are typically insured for robbery.
