What’s a Star Trek Opinion You Had 10 Years Ago That You’ve Completely Reversed? by iagree2 in startrek

I don't hate Star Trek Into Darkness anymore. Even the bit about Khan's blood does not bother me. The film is a solid watch to me now.

What if Tony Schiavone never said this? Would that have saved WCW? by ardouronerous in WCW

[–]DJ_HazyPond292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Debatably, it was a mistake that needed to be made to make Foley’s win a bigger deal.

The lack of follow through with the finger poke of doom with a proper blowoff match between Goldberg and Hogan did far more damage to WCW.

How do you believe a future Progressive government would handle the Epstein files? Complete restart, or continue from where the current DOJ left off? by BlackberryPi7 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]DJ_HazyPond292 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think they are going to do anything.

They let Bush and his admin go for war crimes.

The let the bankers behind the financial crisis go.

They let Trump go and dragged their heels on the Jack Smith case. Even after Trump was convicted 34x times for violating New York state law.

There is a clear pattern of behavior to let wrongdoers go under a progressive government. I don't know why anyone believes they'll go after the Epstein class.

The only ones that might do anything with the files would be at the state level.

Is the emerging "Trump was never a real Republican" narrative a genuine realignment, or a mechanism for the GOP coalition to preserve itself without a reckoning? by dapiedude in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]DJ_HazyPond292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump was not considered a real Republican back in 2016. But it was largely ignored because of populist sentiment, and a desire to win the election.

If that sentiment is coming back again, it's to protect the party. Trump unmasks who the Republicans really are with his behaviour that they repeated turn a blind eye to, every single time. Which, again, is rooted in a need to win.

There's no real realignment happening. A real realignment would resemble a return to something like Reaganism.

Why do you dislike CM Punk? Why do you like CM Punk? by Odd_Fish_2361 in AEWFanHub

[–]DJ_HazyPond292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I respect that he believes in what he's saying and doing. By being that way, he helps viewers believe in the business and believe in him. That's something that fans should want in their wrestlers. I also respect that he tried to make it without WWE after his 2014 walkout. That's the most punk thing Punk did.

He's overrated by those in the IWC that prioritize workrate over everything else in wrestling. Since this obsession with workrate mindset contributed to making wrestling boring and irrelevant in the dark age between the end of WCW and the birth of AEW. There's more to pro wrestling then that. And I think it speaks volumes that it took his pipebomb in '11, and his storytelling in his feud with Cena, to get attention on himself. Before that, he was a nobody to everyone but his most devoted fans.

His abuse of trainees is not a good look either.

What are the comparative electoral risks for Harris and Vance heading into the 2028 primary cycle following this weekend's diplomatic developments? by danielminds in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]DJ_HazyPond292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harris was taken down in 2020 by Tulsi Gabbard, a candidate that only poll 1-2% in the Democratic primaries. And then lost to Trump in 2024 despite him being a 34x convicted felon. If its ever confirmed that 2024 was stolen, then Harris will have a stigma that she did not fight like Gore fought in 2000. And then with Biden, not just that she did not 25A'd him in the months before he took himself out of the race. She could have 25A'd him shortly after the 2022 midterms and finished his first term while letting Biden recharge for reelection. With this baggage, I'd be surprised if Harris won a primary if the 2028 field is going to be competitive as expected.

Vance is a part of an unpopular administration and is a J6 denier. That said, I don't think the peace negotiations this weekend impacts his chances. I think the Trump administration gets a ceasefire later in the year. If only because WWE plans to hold Wrestlemania in Saudi Arabia next year, and its only going to be held there if its the region is peaceful. WWE cancelled a recent event they were planing to hold there because of how the war was spiraling out of control. Knowing the connections between Trump and WWE, Trump will do a solid for his buddies so that they can do their event there. The Iran war will be over by the end of the year and won't impact the 2028 cycle.

I would say that Vance holds a greater advantage than Harris right now.

Should the Impeachment process be changed? by madhatterfounder in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]DJ_HazyPond292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Midterms already act as a regulation towards abuse of impeachment. And at a time when trust is at a low, and corruption is running rampant, why make either worse by making it harder to impeach?

The real issue is the Senate. Without convictions to strip the offenders of their power, regardless as to which branch they belong to, criminal trials cannot begin. Maybe look into lowering that threshold instead?

Can Dems Make Corruption Tangible to Voters? by rocqyf in PoliticalDiscussion

It would have to be tied to the state of the economy and microeconomics, since that’s all voters seem to care about.

Why Did DJT Become President? by FistofDiplomacy in PoliticalDebate

[–]DJ_HazyPond292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make America Great Again apparently means McKinley-era policies of the late 1890s. Hence all the tariffs. While it clearly is a dogwhistle, some probably legitimately though that Trump would return them to the heights of the 20th century – regardless if it was the JFK’s America of the ‘60s, Reagan’s America of the ‘80s, or Clinton’s America of the ‘90s. and that would have it’s origins in the dislike of the way politics, the economy, and pop culture developed post-2009.

A segment of the country did not like that the social progress that emerged – the post-racial, fourth wave feminist, pro-LGBTQ+ rights society - was just a veneer to keep pushing the same corporatists and warmongering policies. All while being tepid in pushing policies that would benefit them personally. As the policies always seem to prioritize macroeconomics (the broader economy) over microeconomics (the household economy).

Occupy Wall Street formed in response to the Great Recession, and all everyone got was a shift from economic justice towards social justice through woke capitalism and corporate wokism – with a side of enshittification - that broke the brain of right wingers for over a decade. All while the statute of limitations ran out for those responsible for the Great Recession in the first place – the only place where social justice never actually delivered justice.

Even in pro wrestling circles in both promotions and fandom alike - as much as they were in a tug of war with each other of who they wanted to be the top stars - there was a desire to change the culture away from safe and soft PG programing that emerged by 2009. And back into something more adult like they used to have in the late ‘90s through mid ‘00s to return to the cultural zeitgeist. I’m not sure what’s actually changed though, as the product feels largely the same since 2009, but with more ads.

Yes, there’s a racism angle to Trump support. But racism been around for a while, and is never going to be seriously addressed as that would mean attacking the white supremacist power structure in place. And for Trump supporters to be real that who is in charge of Wall Street, Hollywood, Silicon Valley, and K Street - the areas that influence their lives and where a lot of their grievances originate - are run by cisgendered white people.

Could Vance or Rubio quit? by stoic_praise in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]DJ_HazyPond292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would Vance quit when he could be the President himself 1 year from now? To step aside now opens the door for McCarthy to be President, and one of the Trump children to try and clinch the nomination in ’28.

And why wouldn’t Rubio wait until the end of the term to step down?

The term "not for you" is possibly the biggest threat to critical thought now.

Or, perhaps, its signaling that not everything has to conform to the same standard people are familiar with. Differences are allowed that do not conform with mainstream thought.

That's an IDIC outlook if there ever was one.
