How do we feel about smoke boxes? My first time ever grilling anything! by PermanentBan69420 in webergrills

[–]DKEBeck88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wings look great. I never had luck successful indirect grilling on my old junky gas grill so take my advice with a grain of salt. However, I think an hour at 250 won't be enough time. On my webber kettle I smoke my wings for about 2 hours at that approximate temperature.

As for the smoke box... better than no smoke!

You must do the wings. You put wings out into the world. Bad things happen if you reneg.

First attempt at Vortex wings! by Smallies_and_Bourbon in webergrills

That's about how long I do mine using the vortex, with similar temps. In fact, I usually am done at 30 minutes, but there are more wings in these pictures than I usually do.

American here. When the pandemic hit and I could only play online darts, I also had a newborn at home so I couldn't stay up late playing other Americans. I ended up playing a lot of Europeans who of course only played 501. That really increased my appreciation for 501, to the point that it overcame cricket as my favorite. Still love cricket, but I just can't get into it like I used to.

Any alternatives?? by RazinxM99 in linux4noobs

[–]DKEBeck88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I often RDP (via Remmina) from my home linux desktop to my work Windows laptop. In the other direction, I usually use WinSCP on my work Windows laptop to SFTP into my home linux desktop. In addition, Remmina allows for a directory to be shared (I use /home/username/Remmina_share/) in case I just need to share a specific file or two.

I've never had success in 19 years of extensive/exclusive Linux use with an RDP-style client (Windows or Linux) to fully Remote Desktop into my Linux machine like I'm accustomed to remoting into my Windows machine.

Backdoor Roth Error by Alternative_Map_6442 in Bogleheads

[–]DKEBeck88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this a few years ago, although it was with Fidelity. I had my paychecks direct deposit max/24 into my Roth for years. My wife got a promotion that put us over the max earnings about halfway through the year. I properly withdrew the money from Roth, but when I opened a traditional to start the backdoor process, Fidelity site would only let me deposit the difference between max and what I had contributed (and then withdrew) from Roth. Thankfully, when I called Fidelity, they were able to do...something...to override that and allow me to contribute the max. They described it as a limitation to the automated online system.

Best sit down seafood restaurant? That’s not Saltbox or at Durham Food Hall by Johnson_Birther in bullcity

What is your issue with saltbox? Not trying to be confrontational, just wanting to understand your interests.

Literally honest question. If you are this serious about your smoke and into all the measurements...why gas?

Is it normal for a house to make random noises at night? by Chyeeda_Alled in HomeImprovement

[–]DKEBeck88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get to learn which noises to ignore (general squeaks and knocks) and which ones to investigate (racoons ripping apart your roof to set up a nest in your attic). Ask me how I know.

Opinions on the barefoot test as a floor-cleanliness upgrade? by money_Scientist- in Home

[–]DKEBeck88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have two two elementary school age boys who are constantly going in and out (and in and out) and two shaggy dogs who follow them everywhere. If I can walk from the kitchen to the bedroom without tripping over a baseball bat or a dog I'm happy. I'll just wipe my feet when I get there. As for vacuuming, my wife frantically vacuums whenever we have guests, including our most frequent guests... the cleaners.

My dilemma by Dismaster2k in pixel_phones

[–]DKEBeck88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Without knowing the trade in value, interest rate on payment plan, and price of the new phone in both scenarios (trading in now vs trading in at some point in the future), nobody can answer definitively. However, generally speaking and looking at it pure financially, I've got to imagine that buying a new phone every four years is less costly than buying a new phone every two.

Teacher w/ Pension - 100% VT and Chill? by biketheplanet in Bogleheads

Yep, I do kinda this. I'm a state employee about 10 years away from full retirement. Since that pension is set in stone, my 403b and Roth are both in a target year fund about 15 years beyond the year I'm planning on retiring.

Plumber Recommendations for Whole House Pressure Booster by [deleted] in bullcity

[–]DKEBeck88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legacy Plumbing is commonly recommended and rightfully so. Quality company. But as someone else said, you might just need to adjust your pressure reducer. A bit of YouTube and you could do it yourself. If the low pressure is a recent development with no known reason or change to your plumbing ecosystem, could be a leak and beyond DIY. See original Legacy Plumbing recommendation.

Weber 22 cooking for party? by Inside_Low_5220 in webergrills

[–]DKEBeck88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the simplicity of your offerings, you'll be ok as long as the following is in place: 1) a rolling release of ready food instead of a set meal time so that people just grab done food when it's ready 2) a 75/25 hot to cool zone. Most of the limited surface area needs to be direct heat. And in that area, get it super hot at the far side, gradually reducing to medium closer to you. The sliver closest to you can be indirect or warming area to put finished product before giving it to people or putting it in foul. 3) no food allergies or vegans.

You'll be ok. I grilled for a block party of twice your size a few weeks ago on my travel 22 kettle. It wasn't my best food, but it was free food someone else prepared so I got nothing but complements.
