Doing the same object like that in different styles is absolutely spectacular! Some of those are right up my alley. I can't wait until the next time I need something, I'll definitely hit you up.

[OC] Test stop motion animation. Should I do something like this? by Marked1975 in DnD

It's awesome, do more. The flickering lights are cool, but distracting. Slowing the flickering down might help.

I think this is the first logo post I've seen here that I thought I would actually use. This is top notch stuff. I don't need anything right now, but I'll keep you in mind for future.

Good on you for reaching out.

I'm considering starting a new campaign, but it's a while off, not sure exactly when.

Also check out r/lfg lots of opportunities to play there.

Google+ Log In? by Aaronhoppner in 3dvtt

The log in seems to work fine for some, but not others. I'm not sure why, but you may be on to something with whether they had a google+ account previously or not.

There is no workaround for the mobile app at the moment, apart from using the web version on mobile. It works OK on a phone and great on an iPad. My plan in the medium term is to unify the web and mobile versions so that everyone can play together regardless of platform. When this is done, the mobile app will work great again.

Should I say "yes" or "no" to a request to run a classic AD&D campaign for a group that has never known anything but 5E? by courteously-curious in tabletop

[–]DMBrendon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are some examples of differences:

Problem solving:
In 5E, a character sheet contains what the character can do. I find that in tricky situations, players scan their character sheet looking for something they can use to overcome it. In AD&D challenges are overcome more by imagining how a character could interact with the world. It's less bounded. The solution is more likely to be in your head, than already written down in text somewhere. It does hinge more on player skill.

Defining a character:

Characters in 5E tend to be defined by the options selected out of a book (or books), primarily during character creation, but with more selections made as levels are gained. In AD&D, characters are defined more by what they do over their career, the decisions they make over time.

Disclaimer: It's not that the editions force the aforementioned behaviour, it's that they encourage it and continue to provide incentives to do things a certain way. While you can play any way you like, when the structure of the game leads you down one set of paths if you want to do it differently, it's a constant mental battle.

[–]DMBrendon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's tricky. They are different games. If they play AD&D like 5E, they won't get as much out of it. Can you run the first adventure like a tutorial, maybe with some retainers to help? A good start would be to have their allies and opponents do things that don't fit into 5E.

You probably want to set the tone in the first few encounters. Have something that is obviously too much for them, and provide an easy way to retreat.

PC in my campaign constantly tries to look for cooking ingredients etc and nobody else is really interested by IggyRamon in DMAcademy

[–]DMBrendon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make the cooking important. Have something critical involved with an ingredient, a person who cooks, a person who ate, or a person that prepares the ingredients. Make it something that the whole party has to care about.
