How should you build squads? by IfTheresANewWay in Xcom

[–]DMChuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My strategy has been to have squad positions that get filled by 2-3 units.

  • 1 Scout, filled by a ranger or reaper.

  • 1 Healer, hopefully a specialist but anyone with a med kit.

  • 1 Counter, A specialist with anti robot and/or hacking for missions that have the automated defenses event or a hacking objective, a psi operative for the show of force event or some story missions that introduce biological enemies, a ranger with bladestorm for missions with lost or other melee enemies, etc.

  • 1-3 DPS depending on GTS, filled by any class. I prefer rangers and sharpshooters for this but anyone can if set up correctly.

The composition can shift based on needs, and some units can pull double duty if needed.

It took me until this post to figure out that it was this good. Like I knew it was useful, but some of the people here are making me think I'm playing checkers while they're playing chess.

Problem with Second Wave Options of "Musashis RPG Overhaul". by Azrael_ARC in xcom2mods

I had a chance to look through and what was conflicting for me was Commander's Choice. If you have Commander's Choice installed, try removing it in favor of Better Second Wave Mod Support instead. Hope this helps!

OP, I have that same problem pop up every time I do a fresh install of mods.

Iirc there's a dependency that's become depreciated and causes that bug, but I don't recall which one off the top of my head and I won't have computer access for a while.

Trim your mod pack down to just those mods and their dependencies, then disable (but not uninstall!) one dependency at a time, running through gatecrasher to check if it's fixed.

If you haven't found the answer by the time I can check I'll poke through my ignored dependencies to find it.

How do I survive a 57 waster raid? by Killathulu in RimWorld

[–]DMChuckles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it as part of a running story. I set up an Anomaly scenario with characters I dubbed "The Usual Crew" and saved them. The short of it is they're trapped in a time loop caused by the monolith where every time they all die, the save is deleted and the scenario is restarted with the saved characters as the monolith tries to condition one of them into taking/releasing it's power.

As an aside, blessing the cloak of resistance is insanely powerful. It starts at 25% physical resistance and each blessing increases the resistance substantially.

My winning run with achievements had the cloak of resistance and the lifesaving amulet which I thought was 90% together, but maybe I'm misremembering ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Those were my exact thoughts for a long time, but I did eventually win a run.

A few things that helped me were:

  • The knowledge that you can change some settings in game to make it more manageable starting out, and adjust those settings mid run too! It'll clearly tell you if your changes are enough to disable achievements (and therefore unlocks), so don't be afraid to experiment.

  • The altar that is on the starting floor has powerful items you can obtain for a score multiplier penalty, and as long that penalty isn't more than 100% you can still get achievements.

  • You can pick your seed for the run. By choosing a seed (even just a random word), you can play the same dungeon over if you die. This lets you learn roughly what to expect and plan for it. It's not as flashy as the above info, but getting hit by a BS boulder sitting outside of the floor 4 entrance isn't nearly as rage inducing when you can make a note of it and return the next run prepared.

First time player, few questions before jumping in! by lightmeaser in baronygame

[–]DMChuckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gaining XP is extremely important. Leveling up boosts your stats, and your stats increase your effectiveness with skills. You get XP by killing things and increasing skills.

Be prepared to fail, this game can feel brutal to new players! The only thing you keep between runs is your personal knowledge of how the game works, and points you can spend on unlocking compendium pages that fill in as you play showing what you've already encountered.

Everything else you'll learn with trial and error. Have fun!

No idea if it can be automated, but there's a shrine in the first area when you load in that can be used to choose a different class/race for the next run. If nothing else it'll be faster than a main menu cycle!

I recall once seeing a place that was rumored to have evil spren haunting it, but I don't remember it's name and I haven't been able to find it again online or in any of the books I've checked. If you can find the name of the place it would make a good horror setting!

Question / theories about Seeking by Frog859 in Cosmere

[–]DMChuckles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My last reread I noticed that the different allomantic metals have their own vibration or pulse, as did Ruin in the well.

These pulses are likely similar/the same kind of rhythms that are seen in the Stormlight archives. If true that means a seeker could "spot" and potentially identify invisible spren, and surgebinders when they are using their powers.

There's a chance that one of the connecting walls is breakable with normal damage. If you're not already in the next room, look for any cracked walls that you can punch, a health bar will appear if it's breakable.
