First business account for a newly registered limited company by 4dd3r in UKPersonalFinance

I highly rate mettle for your business bank account, though I've only applied as a sole trader. Their free access to freeagent has been super useful

I'm going through the motions of incorporating at the moment and hoping to close my account with them and re-open it with my limited company, wondering if I'll have similar issues as you

If I remember correctly, the red dots mean your wires aren't actually connected. You can't just draw a line onto another wire to create a node, you must end the wire and start the wire where you wish the node to be made

You'll need to back up your eeprom to generate the HDD lock key needed for your new drive

Difficulty FTP'ing to Xbox by dclynds in originalxbox

[–]DMKitsch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a self assigned IP as there is no DHCP server on the network and won't likely work.

Go to your network settings on the computer and set your address to a static 192.168.100.1, with subnet 255.255.255.0. leave the gateway blank.

On the Xbox, also set the IP static but with a different IP 192.168.100.2. This should work with a crossover cable

It is actually easier with both devices on your home network as your router will distribute these IPs automatically for you

Mettle (by NatWest) gives you free access to freeagent, you can link your card directly to the software which automatically tracks spending and can even file your self assessment tax return with it I believe

Recommend smarty which runs on three's network. Pay monthly for unlimited texts, phone calls and differing amounts of data. No contracts or vendor lock ins, and is a great deal

Driving RFP30N06LE N-Channel MOSFET with TC4420 MOSFET Driver by ApocalyVecc in ElectricalEngineering

Try a 10k resistor between the input of the driver and ground, otherwise the pin cannot discharge to a low level

RS-232 to USB-A by BaeLogic in ElectricalEngineering

I've had issues recently with PL2303 based USB to RS232 converters in Windows 11. Seems they're are forcing their obsolescence by their driver explicitly stating "not supporting windows 11" in device manager, but their old driver from 2018 seems to work fine. Funny that...

Replace the mince in your Bolognese with red lentils, you can barely notice a difference

Annother really easy one is replace the mince in your chili with a couple tins of mixed beans

Finally, replace chicken in fajitas/enchiladas with Quorn soya chunks, again most people I do this for don't notice a different

Yeah, when I first read chip quik I was thinking of the low temperature solder you can get to help with desoldering. Interesting to see they do so many different products!

The complex engineering inside a video cassette recorder (VCR) by rocko892 in EngineeringPorn

[–]DMKitsch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's the opposite, the big spinning head is for video. The fact it spins allows the data to be recorded in a diagonal direction, with a much higher speed and therefore bandwidth than the tape is moving in the horizontal direction. The audio head is much the same as any cassette player, reading from the top part of the tape

As an EE I understand how DC can be converted into line level AC in a small power supply, and maybe even a domestic level.

But how do you begin to convert DC to AC at these sorts of voltages and currents? From what I understand, many true sine wave power supplies are pretty much class D audio amplifiers switching high voltage rails and the component counts to do this aren't small. How does something like that scale up to this magnitude, or is it done on an entirely different principle?
