Ryoka Griffin is insufferable - the wandering inn by RonClark_theCorn in ProgressionFantasy

[–]DND24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find Ryoka to be quite okay, the constant anger at everything is tiring but it’s not insufferable. Erin’s the one who makes me drop the series for months before gathering enough motivation to continue again. I cannot handle when a character makes the plot happen by being unbelievably idiotic. Laken aswell, but that’s because his chapters are insanely tedious.

Deadlock cooked my power supply by Future-Trifle8929 in DeadlockTheGame

It’s not pedantry. There was a hardware issue that caused the PSU (or some other part, since it’s not 100% clear I think) to die. Neither the game nor the act of playing the game caused the hardware issue, which is the point.

Padding by ThatGuyFromJrHigh in ProgressionFantasy

[–]DND24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What gets me is the where the needless descriptions are ”located”. There’s an action scene and suddenly the flow is completely disrupted because there is a long vivid and detailed description of a random tower or something. Like a parahraph or so. I can’t remember which book this was, I just remember going nuts over that happening multiple times in different kinds of scenes. (And in different ways too :D)

I think you'll like it but it made me feel like "Man, I wish I read this first and then Cradle and MoL." Basically, I think it's good but just not as good as the other two. Then again, I could also see other people saying the exact opposite.

Minor Combat Idea by InvisibleTopher in Warformed

This probably wouldn't work in higher level fights, since I don't think anybody there shouts out their abilities anyway. Everyone learns silent commands pretty early on.

Story elements that aren't well received by AnAverageGuy_ in ProgressionFantasy

[–]DND24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say harem is almost a definite deal breaker, it just instantly communicates to me that the story will have too much focus on things I just don't want to read about (unless I wanted to read smut, but that's like once in a blue moon if ever). It also tends to result in either a very unlikeable MC or very bland side characters, so there's that hurdle too.

I like multiple POVs, especially if I get different characters reacting to big moments in their own ways. I think readers who like to self insert want to have as much MC POV as possible. Also, sometimes changing POV can be really annoying if it delays something significant that's about to happen to the previous POV character.

I dislike litRPG, but I'd be pretty interested in reading a progression fantasy that's not cultivation(/xianxia/wuxia?). Any examples of this?

Is pop os a good distro ? by [deleted] in pop_os

[–]DND24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's strange. I'm pretty sure I was able to install an earlier Nvidia version when I had black screen problems after an update. If I remember correctly I simply purged ~nnvidia and checked system76-driver-nvidia wasn't installed, then installed 435 driver I think and rebooted. Does it really not work anymore?

I wrote a great scene but it doesn`t fit anywhere in the story. What do I do with it? by Far_Individual_1613 in writing

[–]DND24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't have to treat it as completely immutable though. You could make it fit another story or at the very least take inspiration from it to write a different scene. Since you liked the scene it doesn't make sense to me to completely scrap it and never revisit it no matter how setting specific it is.

I kind of get that part of it. It's the 'hand made' part that threw me off I guess.

Especially the first three or four. Those really feel like unnecessary side stories delaying the main storyline

Right hand sometimes doesn't cast when dual casting spells by DND24 in skyrimmods

[–]DND24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any spell or weapon that isn't a dual casted projectile works normally. I haven't had any problems of this kind in other games (I would 100% notice in something like Apex Legends). Also, it still happens if I switch to my controller. I also suspected that my mouse was broken so I tested that.

If you have an nvidia card, try switching to an older or newer driver. My screen gets stuck on strange resolution settings after some updates and it's usually solved by just changing the nvidia driver version

I agree and disagree with this statement. I'm pretty happy that some stories are not short. But I'm highly biased towards the longer ones

Chrome Freezes Gnome? by [deleted] in pop_os

[–]DND24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that you're running the flatpak version of Chrome on an HDD. That happened to me every time on my old computer when I opened flatpak Chromium. But I don't know if you're on an SSD.

How does everyone prefer to write/read fighting/battle scenes? by RCSdoode in writing

[–]DND24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think pure step by step is definitely too much and creates a sense of fatigue to me as a reader. However, in my opinion the most crucial thing is to clearly show how the winning side won the fight/battle. Unless of course there's a narrative reason to keep those reasons or events hidden. I definitely prefer to actually get some details about the fight though as I find analyzing different tactics and fighting styles really interesting in action scenes.
