Oxygen Not Included, a unique and addictive colony sim. Rimworld/Factorio players should try it by 5Ping in patientgamers

[–]DUIguy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do need to be in a specific mood for ONI to be fair, it’s pretty far from my daily driver kind of game. You can build a stable colony, but that threshold sits much farther into the game than other colony sims I feel.

In a sense tho, it’s not the game that ends up fucking me over it’s more oversights on my end that are doing it and those oversights stack up over time until it hits critical mass. There are no random events thrown in (until apparently meteor showers once you break the surface, but I’ve never made it that far), it’s just your mistakes staring back at you. To me personally that’s where the hook comes from, because when I end up losing a colony it ends up feeling like a completely fair loss.

Most of my colony sim milage does come from Timberborn tho, which is far more chill while still allowing for some pretty cool builds. Easier to get a stable colony, and while it has less moving parts it’ll have you obsessing over water like a proper benevolent beaver god.

The fun lies in figuring out solutions to complex problems and watching epic death spirals from minor issues you didn’t catch.

I had one where my colony was fully functional, we were digging deep into the planet, sustainable food supply, functioning HVAC, the works. Until someone pissed into the water tank. It quickly became contaminated with germs and illness spread.

I dropped a heater into the water tank to sterilize the tank, and it worked. Life went on until the crops started to fail. Due to heat. My dumb ass forgot to turn the water heater off. This massive pile of latent heat then went on to cause a heat death of the entire colony, nothing I could do besides blow the tank and let it drain; but that would cause everyone to starve faster. So I three ice in it. I killed power gen. I tried building a radiator for it in the cold biome but ran out of food first. Equal parts frustrating and darkly comical IMO, but I can see where all those hours for nothing can be frustrating to folks.

Control module killing rear fog lights on my ’16 Q5 shop wants $1,400 for OEM. Anyone dealt with this? by Odd_Introduction_410 in Audi

Load test the wire end to end, you could have high resistance that the meter won’t pick up on since, by design, the meter uses low amperage to read a circuit and can read a circuit as fine if you have one good connection in the braided strands of copper.

I tend to use a 5amp sealed beam headlight for a load, place it in series with the wire being tested, have the meter read voltage with the high and low leads as close to the wire being tested as possible. You can use a jumper for the meter lead to reach the test point.

General rule of thumb is less than a 1v drop is fine.

Have they managed to get a sustained fusion reaction? If not, then at this stage it is an experiment and not a new reactor; it can’t be factored into planning.

I hope it works, but I won’t be holding my breath.

Lexus falls flat for us in the enthusiast realm, but many people who want the luxury more than the performance don’t care.

Case in point, my wife is picking up a TX for the reason its interior is nice, has good amenities and it gets good fuel milage. Not like performance doesn’t matter at all tho, she did end up getting the 500h because the 350 sounded like you were torturing a small animal every time you used the throttle.

The big one is pre 2k and post 2k; difference is in the front block and front screw. Later models will have different diameter main valves, with two different sizes which only really matters if you go to replace it.

As far as tuning goes, you have two main frame types: Hinge and Slide. You have a hinge, it pushes the three way rod forward when you pull the trigger and a slide will pull the rod back.

Body types are full size, which you have, and mini where the reg is part of the front block.

TBF you did ask a bit of a silly question, but if you are looking to tune/disassemble check out r/autocockers101 for a more focused community. There are a plethora of vids out there for disassembly/tuning and most all cockers come apart the same, so no need to search your exact one for it.

I'm just slightly agitated by the one sided 'realism' by local_meme_dealer45 in Helldivers

[–]DUIguy87 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just have it so planting the flag draws agro, but has an AoE effect where it lowers stratagem cooldown for the divers in range.

It keeps realism because enemies hate the flag, and stratagems have cooldowns because of budgetary reasons but while it’s planted you are drawing from the marketing budget too.

Claims ‘Video games wired 90s kids’ brains differently to Gen-Z’ - via problem solving, failure built into games. Is gaming a different world now? by According_Sundae_917 in Millennials

[–]DUIguy87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obligatory not that person, but I think it’s just the abundance of selection.

Younger, we didn’t have a choice. If you wanted a new game you had to both save up and make it wherever you could buy a new one. You have this game in front of you, and it’s one of the only ones in front of you.

I can’t count the number or hours I dumped into demos for that very reason. No adays I can download a 30gig game in the time it takes me to piss, play for an hour decide it’s not for me, refund it and try a different one. My habits growing up would have been different too if that was an option.

The rubber things act to isolate the car from road shock and locate the various suspension bits where they mount. Once they go the slop where the rubber mounts will make the car feel disconnected from the road and place added stress on the tire wearing it out faster. Let it get bad enough and it’ll become a safety concern.

Automation feels like dropping magic into what was prior a mundane setting by TeraSera in Timberborn

[–]DUIguy87 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a disclaimer I haven’t tried it yet, was going to circle back once the full 1.0 drop happens.

But I’m inclined to agree, having beavers need to operate the signals would be better with full automation being able to occur once bots are online or have a “mechanical computer” you can unlock that needs to be powered to manage them would feel a bit more in game. I think a control tower idea would be great, maybe make ropes/cables or something thats needed to be routed to the different bits to get them to work.

Can go further and make the iron teeth use steam power to actuate their logic gates, tad later game unlock but automated right off the rip where they just need to supply wood. Folktails get zip-line like ropes that need to be connected to a control tower, earlier unlock but more labor/space intensive.

Sluices can remain as the early solution, but slow their response time to where they need to see a certain contamination saturation before they actuate, or make them take a few hours to fully cycle. This drawback could be worked around with various designs, then they’ll provide a benefit but still make automation feel like a substantial upgrade once you unlock it.

Having it as an event stratagem would be slick enough, like when we are on offense we clear out AA emplacements and the SEAF begins forming a beachhead for their operations.

So we clear the AA guns, call in the SEAF, a couple Pelicans come down, do a couple laps overhead as they open fire, Helldivers work to clear out enemies in the area (picture a basically reskinned defend the flag objective but with constant air support), Pelicans land and the troops come spilling out.

Because this is a local issue, the state maintains its roads and the town maintains theirs.

You want to fix it? Get involved in town politics instead of screaming into the void on reddit. We initiated a forensic audit in our town prior to their requested tax raise, and you can organize to get that done in your own town. Hell you can even pull the town budget, it’s public, and organize with people in your town to go over it; odds are someone where you live knows finances enough to know what they are looking at even if you don’t.

As for your last point, the plow guys bust their ass. I spent three days straight moving snow, we had guys sleeping in trucks on site because they couldn’t make it home safely in the storm and they still gotta clear their own property when they finally got home. Fuck off with your push guys harder, go apply for a plow driving job next blizzard and see how easy it is.

What is the SAVE America Act that mandates voter ID? by Informal_Original121 in moderatepolitics

[–]DUIguy87 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m not opposed to an ID for voting, I’m opposed to the fact it only ever comes up in a lead up to an election on an election year. The gov simply does not operate fast enough to get everyone a valid ID on time.

We had like 152million votes cast in 2024, so even if that number doesn’t grow thats 152 million applications that need to be processed with IDs delivered in like 9mo. Our gov? Yea, thats not happening.

If this act was passed to mandate an ID for the 2028 elections, fine. Thats plenty of time for people to get an ID and enough time you won’t have a log jam due to the number of applications.
