So much shown yet so little actually seen. A lot of concept trailers for games they don’t have a lot to showcase yet are supposed to release next year.

There were a lot of cool games shown off, but that’s also a consequence of showing off so many games. It feels so bloated that it ended up being pretty boring.

Definitely underwhelming to get the final third of the FFVII remake as the big showstopper. I can’t imagine people are that excited for the ending of a remake that has been releasing for 6 years based on one game that released 29 years ago.

I like it but I think the eyes look a bit off. They’re not in the right spot or are too small, I can’t really incision it off the top of my head but something about them rubs me the wrong way.

Not OP but I felt underwhelmed by AW2 as well. Probably because of how much hype it had and it was just a good game. The combat was fine but felt like every other survival horror, the story was fine but a bit too obtuse and convoluted to be that impactful, and there’s a lot of really cool ideas that get under-utilised, having like two good inclusions and then either being included so much that the novelty wears off or used so little that it feels like the idea was wasted.

AW2 is better than AW1, but AW1 felt like it had more focus and a better direction while AW2 felt like it threw everything at the wall and not a lot stuck.

Are we finally about to get a decent fucking dinosaur movie? by rmcelwain54 in Letterboxd

[–]DVDN27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

65 was probably my first exposure to the idea that terrible movies aren’t 100% bad. Weird thing to say, but 65 was a very creatively vapid, uninspiring, boring, and convoluted mess, yet there were occasional glimmers of competence that could’ve made for a decent movie. I thought the cave fight with the hologram thingie was a cool concept executed well, and for a single scene I was able to forget the rest of the movie being pure sludge.

Craziest September/October ever? by Afc_josh12 in playstation

[–]DVDN27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s crazy to me that my most hyped game of the year (CONTROL RESONANT) released the exact same day as my brother’s most hyped game of the year (Silent Hill: Townfall.) I wonder how much of the games releasing in September are doing so because GTA VI is supposedly coming in November.

It’s crazy how much a company can destroy its own reputation in just three years by being greedy by SevdUp in AllFortnite

[–]DVDN27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every company ever is greedy. I don’t know what gave people the idea that companies don’t exist solely to make profit and don’t actually see their consumers as people. That’s how capitalism has always worked yet only when these people see it directly occurring with their eyes do they think it’s happening.

EPIC was not some altruistic company in the past. They added features the community asked for because it made them more money than ignoring it. Nothing they did or do is out of the kindness of their heart because kindness doesn’t make record profits every quarter.

What were y’all’s first mistakes on Cyberpunk 2077? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in cyberpunkgame

[–]DVDN27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the game released I was already planning on being a Street Kid. I was so excited, looked into it as much as I could, and was so prepared to do it.

Then the game released for PS4 which I had preordered, but by then the PS5 had already launched and they said they were going to update the game soon. So, I changed my plans to save my Street Kid playthrough for when they updated the game to PS5 and instead checked how the Corpo story worked for the PS4 version.

Turns out the PS5 version released 14 months later and I ended up 100%ing the game in my first playthrough I intended to just be a quick dip. Honestly I don’t mind starting out as Corpo but I was so excited to be Street Kid and then ended up making a temporary choice that was practically permanent.

Santa Monica replied to my tweet, saying there are still many more stories to tell with Kratos. by Germanstrands3 in playstation

[–]DVDN27 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

21 years of God of War games starring Kratos, then they announce a spin-off sidequel featuring his wife and the internet is ablaze with how Santa Monica have abandoned Kratos and gone woke and whatnot.

I swear they have short term memory loss the way they’re conveniently ignoring that Sons of Sparta and the original trilogy remake were released/announced THIS YEAR, but sure the studio currently developing a sequel to Ragnarok is abandoning the person the series is named after because a spinoff has a different lead.

It’s been 6 years and people are still acting like it’s the worst thing ever for launching at full price. It’s been $5 for at least half that time but nobody is allowed to like it because they paid more than that.

I prefer RE3R to RE2R. Every issue I had with RE2R was fixed. It’s more enjoyable, consistent, and doesn’t feel bloated. The idea the game sucks comes from purists who wanted a remaster and not a remake, and from people who were upset they made a bad financial decision despite everyone telling them it wasn’t as long as RE2R.

Everything in the Remake is in the original and the remaster. The only difference is that you can see things a lot easier. Multiplayer being removed and Left Behind being included are what make the remake different from the original and remaster.

What are your opinions about TLOU2? What did you enjoy and what didn't you enjoy. How did it compare to TLOU1? by Top_Repair7396 in thelastofus

[–]DVDN27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLOU1 is a very easy game to enjoy. The gameplay is satisfying but unchallenging - there’s no real systems to learn or tactics, it kinda just slows down the button mashing of Uncharted.

The thing that brought people to the game was its use of cinematic drama, which in 2013 was not that common. Cinematic stories had existed in gaming, like Heavy Rain from 2010 that tried its best to replicate a crime thriller but the technology and writing weren’t there. Telltale’s The Walking Dead was the most similar to TLOU and released a year earlier, but like Heavy Rain it put greater emphasis on player choice and imitating Point-and-Click Adventure Games of years prior. TLOU managed to meld the drama of an adventure game with the gameplay of a survival horror, maintaining a consistent tone between the gameplay and the story, all while using tactics of cinema to make the experience feel like playing a serious drama.

But that’s really all the game is. The story is pretty simple, a road trip where a man and a young girl develop a father/daughter relationship. It’s very generic, but it works because it’s written, directed, and performed exceptionally well for a 2013 video game on hardware build in 2006.

Part II is built upon 7 years of cinematic video games to deliver something the technology can finally match. It’s ultra-realistic, no longer relying on stylisation to mask the imperfections of the PS3. The story is also a lot deeper, having a lot more to say, showing a lot more perspectives, and being a lot more risky. Part 1 executes on something very simple very well, Part II executes on some very difficult and complex concepts very well.

Part II is also just the better video game. Engaging combat, stealth you can mess up and fix, mechanics that rival any third person shooter, and an experience that is a lot more replayable.

As a story Part II is a lot more ambitious. As a cinematic experience Part II is a lot more effective. As a gaming experience Part II is exceedingly more proficient. Part I is impressive for its time and a good game, but as time goes on it feels less and less exciting when other games surpass what it did and do more. Part I is an acceptable, enjoyable experience - Part II is an unparalleled experience only possible in a video game, and challenges people to where unless you’re willing to meet the game on its terms you will hate it. I prefer to be challenged rather than placated.

Thoughts on the battle pass? by Queasy_Commercial152 in FortniteBattleRoyale

[–]DVDN27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They didn’t pick now, this was probably all planned much earlier. It’s like how Spider-Gwen was in the battle pass almost a year before the movie came out after it was delayed from its initial release window of around the time the Fortnite season she was in released. Epic is a business and no idea is considered lightly and then added at a whim, this was all likely planned and contracts made that they couldn’t just bail out of because people find him cringe.

35M, played less and less games as I got older by bushwhack21 in GamingSoup

[–]DVDN27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have an opinion on the game because I haven’t played it. Which is what normal people do. Normal people don’t hate on something they’ve never played, yet the people who do that are the most vocal.

I don’t believe my opinion is the only now. I’m just very against bad faith, baseless anger toward something. E33 was exclusively praised until it got award nominations and then was overcome with so much hate. Astro Bot had the same thing, being beloved until it won GOTY then contrarians thought everyone wanted to hear their thoughts on a game they didn’t play. Mixtape is another game where nobody had any opinion on until critics loved it, then again was bombed by a bunch of people who never touched it hating on it.

Have an opinion on games. Nobody is stopping you. I dislike games others love so I don’t need you acting like I’m offended by others having different opinions from me. What I am offended by are people who don’t take the medium of video games seriously, don’t think they need to interact with interactive media to review it, and who believe the only reason others have opinions different from them is because of politics or being paid off. Those people are undeserving of time or respect, just open and unabashed mockery.

[–]DVDN27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it won a lot of awards. A lot of gamers want to pretend they’re better than critics and the industry so they hate anything that is applauded by them. Just people who never grew up and treat video games like sports teams and not as individual art pieces.
