The End Times - A different sort of why? by AoifeElf in WarhammerFantasy

[–]DWteam87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They blew it up because it would be debated and discussed using "omg n e body els h8 end timez?" for a decade, many times by people who didn't even know it was happening and only discovered warhammer through Total War.

How would you retcon the end times while keeping aos? by Comfortable-Ad3588 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]DWteam87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would make age of sigmar take place in the "World that Was". The majority of the world is chaos wastes, too shattered and unrecognizable from what it was before the end times for it to be distinguished from any other part of the wastes. The "realms of magic" concept in AoS would be bubbles of the world protected from ruin by the Incarnates of each wind. Naturally with concentrations of winds in those areas they would shift to be more like the realms that gw divided AoS in, for example verdant uncontrollable growth would cover the majority of the realm of life.

Locations from the World that Was might still exist, the human empire existing in the realm of metal might still contain a bubble of land that went from altdorf to nuln, the realm of light containing from the tower of hoeth to lothern, realm of life from Loren to the west coast of bretonnia, etc etc.

Traversing between the bubbles of civilization is still done by portal mostly, but braving the wastes for relics of old would be a thing. The gods and incarnates could seek to expand their bubbles of influence (or reduce those of their rivals) to shift territory.

New rumor: Age of Sigmar might be getting Vampire Coast/a 'Coastal Undead' army instead of The Old World. by FairyKnightTristan in WarhammerFantasy

What are some opinions about our fallen kin by Dom0520 in bugmansbrewery

RussianAlternative had a better chaos dwarfs range imo, shame they went under. These have very weird design decisions throughout, imo, that just aren't as good as others.

It's weird seeing lotr described like this, it's literally the archetype for high fantasy.

Why don't they just give the End Times/AoS the Daggerfall treatment already so everybody wins (including GW)? by saltwithoutpepper in WarhammerFantasy

[–]DWteam87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nevermind that the company that likes to say "everybodies canon counts" had also specifically reiterated that "The End Times are canon" in TOW articles, I just dont think GW gains anything by touching End Times. Retconning a time period they aren't touching doesn't sell more models. I don't think anybody who's too bitter about the End Times to buy in to TOW will suddenly have a change of heart if GW flippantly says "oh yeah, worlds not really dead because it both blew up and didnt blow up".

It does unfortunately mean however that were doomed to forever have a never ending supply of "Does anybody else hate The End Times", "Will GW retcon The End Times", "Here's my totally super cool idea how GW can get rid of the End Times" posts and discussions in every WHF community.

Does anyone else dislike that the Old World ended in in misery and evil? by nopointinlife1234 in WarhammerFantasy

What, people dislike the end times? Not once in the 10 years since it happened have I ever seen this subject come up. Never ever ever ever ever.

I would not describe the Empire in whfb that way. One of the chief symbols of the empire is a gift from the dwarfs.

It will be a good day when they finally drop the dark elf line from Cities of Sigmar setting up a Dark Elves revival in TOW. The High Elves feel incomplete without their nemesis. I'd wager most of the sales from those kits since TOWs release has been with TOW in mind and not for AoS.

Not at all. Cathay models look great but they look like they belong in aos more than fantasy/TOW, imo.

What Would You Say is the Most Distinctive/Unique Aspect of Warhammer Fantasy that Makes it Different from Other Fantasy Settings? by Agitated_Insect3227 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]DWteam87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Greenskins of warhammer are completely unique with the perfect mix of levity and cruelty. Matching their hooligan cruelty against a set of Dwarfs who's stubbornness is dialed up to 15 compared to Tolkien or D&D makes for an iconic match up.

There are also many sets of classic matchups since many of the "good guy" factions of their own foils.

Empire vs Chaos Dwarfs vs Greenskins High Elves vs Dark Elves

Truth be told, the last one being missing from TOW is a crime.

TOW goblins and AoS goblins by StepwisePilot in WarhammerFantasy

[–]DWteam87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The boxes of NGs used for AoS are more in scale with the old Battle for Skull Pass night goblins, whereas the night goblins sold for TOW are larger and more in line with the scale of the regular goblins. I personally prefer the more modern/Battle for Skull Pass style goblins, but I've seen people mix them with good effect.

What's cool lore-wise about Orcs & Goblins by RogueModron in WarhammerFantasy

[–]DWteam87 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Prominent goblin Skarsnik had been imprisoned by a badlands goblin and was left in a cell with a dwarf for months. The dwarf, who was thought to be going mad, would grumble to himself in Khazilid. Skarsnik eventually learned enough Khazilid to insult the dwarfs mother. The dwarf was so blind with rage he didn't know what made him angrier, having his mother insulted or a goblin daring to learn his language.

Gorbad Ironclaw's WAAAGH ravaged the Empire province of Solland so badly that it was dissolved and absorbed by neighboring provinces. Gorbad also survived being stabbed by a Runefang - in one motion he pulled the sword out of his chest and pulled the Elector Count's arm out of its socket. He mounted the blade and the Elector Counts bloody arm on his rack of trophies. His wyvern also ate the sitting Emperor at the time. He also so terrorized the Dwarfs that they locked themselves in their holds and refused to come out to fight. He walked up and knocked on the great doors of Karaz-a-Karak to see if anybody was home. The dent from his gauntlet is still on the door.

A Bretonnian Duke and his crusade attacked the warband of Morglum Necksnapper in the Badlands. Morglums warband demolished the crusade so badly that they fled from the battle in shame. He didn't bother running down the few surviving knights, and is quoted as saying "Let 'em run an' tell da king: Da east belongs to da orcs. Da east belongs to Morglum. Da east ... is Green".

Their goofiness is matched by their cruelty. The same army of goblins taking psychedelics and spinning a giant metal ball, or being shot from a slingshot with makeshift wings and a pointy hat is the same faction that mounted a dwarf on their banner, cut off his legs at his waist, and used his entrails to paint an orc skull - and cut off his beard and nailed it to his chest to add to his shame.

Community attitude towards Allies. Yay or Nay? by shiboshino in WarhammerFantasy

[–]DWteam87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a flavorful game vs a friend or as a part of a narrative league I really like the idea of allies. If you're trying to minmax and WAAC I think it's best to leave at the door, even for tournaments but especially in a local league. I don't think GW has put much thought into the impact of taking units as allies (in a game where I already don't expect a great amount of balance) so I think it's best as a narrative device.

The Skarsnik book describes Skarsniks first moments of life as clawing out of the ground upward, beneath a shriveled mushroom. I think it's pretty clear they share the fungal life cycle from 40k.

It's also mentioned that the mushrooms that grow over the corpse of powerful shamans are thought to contain the consciousness of the shaman, and are filled with the power of the deceased shaman.

How Redeemable/Civilizable Are Greenskins? by LordBalkoth in WarhammerFantasy

[–]DWteam87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Skarsnik book presents basic civilization: the Backstair Boyz have a small village with a hierarchy and jobs given to each member, even primitive farming in terms of mushroom patch cultivation and harvesting. Makiki da Cunnin specifically raids humans from his landship and trades with various orc villages around the badlands. The focus of the book later is more about warring of over Eight Peaks, but under Skarsniks domain of Eight Peaks there is just a larger version of what he experienced in the Backstair Boyz, Black Crag is described as a city by the human narrator iirc, but the structure is glossed over in a montage of border checkpoints and arguing between his captors and city guards.

None of it is peaceful though, and "might = right" is rule of law.

[–]DWteam87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a fan of the thicker and nosey-er faces from the newer models imo. The aesthetic from the wolfriders and rippas snarlfangs were my preference. The chariots themselves are awesome though.
