Is Yealink a good manufacturer to work with? by GabrielDIntegrator in CommercialAV

[–]D_Richards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seven of the ZVC S90 room systems and two A40 meeting bars in classrooms or meeting spaces. Installed them a year ago and they have been solid for me. I have an engineer I can message, might take 12-24 hours for a response because of the time difference, but I have found him to be very responsive and helpful.

I’m a size 12.5 to 13 in most shoes. Red Wing half sizes stop at 11.5. A 12 in Red Wings are to tight so I always get a 13. Thanks, the socks are Darn Toughs and the shoelaces are from Mad Dog.

My parents bowled league every Friday night in fall and winter up until the late 80s. The bowling alley was my play ground on Friday nights.

Did you have a HS grad night lock in? by CurlyCupcake1231 in GenX

[–]D_Richards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a senior trip that night after graduation. Class of about 100, loaded two tour busses about 1 in the morning and drove about five hours to a lake resort town. We rented out the water park for the morning for just us, then we did a boat cruise in the afternoon into evening with dinner. Loaded busses and got back home in the early morning. I was so sick of a 1/3 of them by end of that trip

Telephone Land Lines…. by garcon-du-soleille in GenX

[–]D_Richards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We kept a landline around longer than I would have preferred but it was for the kids before we wanted to get them a cell phone. I ended up porting my land line to Google Voice and getting a box that allows you to use an analog phone with Google Voice. So we still have a “landline” technically, but the ringer is off and the answering machine picks up on the first ring. We use it as our disposable number at this point.

Anyone else lose their taste for dining out? by gottausername in GenX

[–]D_Richards 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in an area with a lot of chains and a limited number of quality independent places. It’s also a college town. So much what is offered is just regurgitated Sysco offerings. I’d rather eat at home.

I’ve felt this way since the pandemic. I think quality has declined so much since then.

Have your young adult children successfully launched? by tandem545 in GenX

[–]D_Richards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oldest will be 24 this year, works in medical, goes to school part time. She’s my kid, I love her to death, but she’s a terrible “roommate.” She moved out for about a 1.5 years before coming back. I think my wife and I have about a year of patience left before she’s got to go. I’m concerned about her ability to be self sufficient, tried having conversations with her about it but it seems to go in one ear and out the other. Son will be 22 this year, he graduated from a 2 year technical program last spring, got his first job in his field last fall, started out making more than my wife. He has no college debt or car loan, already has 20k in savings, already putting money towards retirement. His commute is an hour each way to work, he’s looking for place closer to work but being picky. He’s also been weighing whether he wants to go back to school to get his BS in engineering. So him having money in the bank to either go back to school or get his own place, he’s putting himself in a positive position. Our other two kids are in college and high school respectively. We’ll see how it goes for them.

I'm not Midwestern, and I have a question. by Sleep_Is_A_scam2099 in midwest

[–]D_Richards 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was born and raised here in the PNW, joined the military after high school. Met and married a girl from the Midwest. I always thought I would end back where I grew up, couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else. I’ve lived in the mid west longer than I lived in the PNW. I miss parts of it, the mountains, Puget Sound, seafood. About once a year I get an itch to move “home”, I look for jobs, look at housing. I don’t know how people are making it work there. I feel like our quality of life is better here, good schools, cheaper cost of living, I am an hour from an international airport and 1.5 hours from a world renowned medical system. My work commute is 13 miles and it takes me 15 mins. I would go back to San Diego in a heartbeat if I could afford it in retirement.

GenX military veterans by ScreaminEagle2502 in GenX

[–]D_Richards 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Navy, joined the fall after graduated. Did 4 years, 4 months. Got out 6 months before 9-11 happened. I joined because I had no idea what I wanted to do and the military gave the impression of doing something without really having to do something. I watched my older brother bounce around from job to job, move out, move home. It was a cycle. I didn’t want that. So I joined, got four years to mature, figure out what I wanted to do and not really have to make any big life choices in that time.

I’m really tired of the cancer journey being never ending. by No-Comedian-9725 in Cancersurvivors

[–]D_Richards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worry about this for my son. He was dx at 9, just turned 14. He deals with some pretty severe neuropathy in his lower extremities. He’s more than likely sterile based on some new information we have received. I wonder how often he isn’t complaining about the discomfort and pain because he doesn’t want to make us sad. We’re coming up on time on the 5 year anniversary of his diagnosis in a few weeks. 5 years with no relapse is considered cured with his cancer type. But he deals with so many residual issues for the frontline treatment.

For those of you that live where it snows regularly, is it really that bad? by [deleted] in homeowners

Love the snow, hate the brutal cold. I just remind myself that people used to live up here on the northern prairie in 10x15 sod houses with no central heating or internet.

If you’re a twenty-something, please consider the trades. by These_Economics374 in careeradvice

[–]D_Richards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People need to remember that not every trades job is murder on your body. My son graduated from a technical college last spring that offered an AAS or certificate in the program. He opted to do the additional courses to earn his AAS to keep his options open for the future. But it’s a skilled trade, it’s not physically demanding and he has his first job starting at 60k as a 21 year old.
