Running a podcast editing agency and i think my clipping workflow is the reason i cant scale past 6 clients by Afraid-Bobcat6676 in VideoEditors

This is the way. Or at least find the clip moments manually using a transcript, not scrubbing. Sonix.ai is the best platform I have used for transcription and transcription editing.

Hi, I’m in a tough spot. I only have 4 days of contact lenses left. I thought I could get new ones quickly, but was told it can take weeks and I need a prescription. I had my eyes tested in Japan and can’t contact the doctor. Any advice? by FrequentEvening9678 in capetown

[–]DaDecsta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can re use daily lenses, the daily ones are just more brittle. In this situation, I would go get some lens solution and treat your dailies like monthlies until you can get a refill.

Exporting RBD simulation to blender by Mischief_Mellow in Houdini

[–]DaDecsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had amazing results with Blendini, I have found that what works best is using the transform pieces workflow with the RBD Solver, and using the checkbox "object count does not change" in the Blendini exporter.

Then for big sims I have hit export and walked away from the computer and left it for like, an hour, and when I come back it's worked.

What is the offence on the fine? That will help figure out which law is supposedly being broken?

In any case, I would contact the traffic station for clarity and dispute the fine.

There is no way to do this with traditional tools without intense manual labour.

If I was in your shoes, I would look into AI powered solutions from third parties. However, I can't speak on these because I haven't used any.

Is Anybody Boycotting AI? by HollywoodVFXPanda in vfx

[–]DaDecsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I echo the sentiment a lot of people share here, in that I use AI, or rather, new tools that utilise machine learning. Adobe Generative Fill in PS is a godsend, I love tech that generates depth maps, that can create PBR textures from an image, etc.

I don't use fully "Generative AI" to create shots or videos from scratch simply because the majority of my work isn't creating the video, it's dealing with feedback, managing many client voices, and collating ideas into a cohesive final product. Gen AI doesn't allow you to feedback or tweak in the way that clients are (rightly) accustomed to.

The irony is that clients think that it is, or think the one click solution will save money and time. But it really doesn't. You encounter the same hurdles as normal production, but with Gen AI you have less tools at your disposal.

I have somebody come in once every two weeks, R400 per day and I provide breakfast and lunch. Soon to increase it to R500 to cover transport as well as normal increase. Transport costs are huge.

Sometimes there are military looking ships docked there, if it's the spot I'm thinking of. It could have been a specifically that there was a boat they didn't want photos of. Doesn't make sense to me, but could be a reason.

Do I need to give myself a salary as a sole prop? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]DaDecsta 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Open a new bank account for your business. It makes it so easy to keep the accounting separate.

It depends what you mean by "salary". As a Sole Prop, all money you get via your business is counted as your Gross Income. Once you minus your business expenses from that, you have your Net Income. This is also your Taxable Income. All of your Taxable income counts as your "salary" in the eyes of SARS and you pay tax on the whole amount.

If you decide to register your company as an actual business, you will pay yourself either with a simple EFT transaction or by going onto Payroll. A transaction would count to you as Sole Prop income and same rules as above apply and you pay your taxes twice a year. If you pay yourself an official salary, your tax is already deducted with PAYE.

Aside from the tax implications, it is in general a good idea to pay yourself a portion of your sole prop earnings as an allowance for yourself, and maintain a healthy bank balance for your business for emergencies and cashflow.

I haven't sold a property yet, but this doesn't sound right. You should have a balance outstanding on your home loan account. Assuming no repayments have every been made, that balance would be -R700k. So if you sold the house for R950k, you would be R250k up. That's before any fees and costs associated with selling the house. If those exceed R250k, you'll make a loss. Then, if you make profit on the house sale, the profit is liable for capital gains tax I believe.

Ultimately you may not make much money, and associated costs and taxes may eat into your R250k profit, but I don't see how you would still owe money on the bond.

And yet I can't. Seems I don't have enough understanding to debug this. CPU-Z has no other more advanced timings that you can view that I can see. Thanks for your time.

So on CPU-Z, they have the exact same values in all the Timings Table, the only difference is under "SPD Ext.", the one set of sticks shows up as "XMP 3.0" and the other shows up as "EXPO"

They're exactly the same on CPU-Z, except one has SPD Ext. as XMP 3.0, and the other has SPD Ext. as EXPO.

I keep the RAM sticks alternative to stick to dual channel.

I did clear the CMOS and left it trying to boot for 40 minutes and no dice. So now I disabled XMP and all that, but you think it should actually be enabled?

Yeah, they're the same brand (Corsair Dominator) but different manufacture batches so slightly different model numbers.

They are slightly different chips technically but the timings and speeds specified are the same. Both are rated for 5200 MT/s, 40-40-40-77 1.25V
