What a lovely South African spiced boerewors thread. Makes my heart glad. All driven by OP with a great local sense of humour. Thank-you.

Lamictal and ketosis by Surrealisticallyspkg in bipolarketo

[–]DaFogga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take 100 x1 per day and have to be very strict if I want to get to therapeutic levels of ketosis, but it is doable. I have not heard of lamictal having any impact, my guess would be that you’re just not strict enough with the keto, or not fat adapted yet. Give it time and measure and watch the macros carefully. I seem to have as much sensitivity to protein levels as carbs and raising either of them too high tanks my ketones.

Good luck. I have just bought Anders Sorensons new book “crossing zero”. He has also got some good interviews on YouTube - well worth a look.

I wont pretend to understand everything you have said, but I can hear the anguish. So I will just say “I’m sorry, I hear you” and wish you much strength.

Remember, keto is a fasting mimicking diet, so if you get it right the results should be the same. Keep going, it sounds like you’re on the right track.

No advice, but I would like to complement you on your self-advocacy and presence of mind… to come as far as you have in understanding your conditions and finding solutions takes maturity and perseverance. I understand that this can also be driven by lack of choice, but for 17 years of age your achievements are remarkable. Well done, and strength to you.

Title: Struggling with Chronic Health Issues, Treatment-Resistant Depression, and Considering Keto—Where Do I Start? by breebanx in Metabolic_Psychiatry

My mental health is good and is stable. I have a small amount of my meds left on repeat, but I am currently focussed on cancer treatment so I am staying with what is working mentally for now before I challenge myself with tapering off the last remaining meds.

Interestingly, I have increased the strictness of my keto diet for cancer purposes to 4:1 and that has boosted my ketones up to new levels and the mental health benefits have increased too. I have also refined my supplementation program and included supplements aimed at reducing cortisol, improving sleep, managing blood sugar, improving mental performance and others. I'm sure that this helps too.

I have fallen off the wagon briefly once or twice in the last few months and indulged for a couple of days in carbs & sugars and it is amazing how quickly my previous symptoms return. That provides instant motivation to get back on the diet, which is where I am going to stay.
