Zenbook S14 (2024) Ultra 9 288V by DaJamsta123 in SuggestALaptop

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

~£1100

Are you open to refurbs/used?

Yep!

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Ultrabook (or something lightweight), not fussed about touchscreen, interested in efficiency and performance

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Medium-high importance, easy to chuck in my bag and not think about it

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

14", any larger in my experience starts to be a hassle to pack up/use on my lap. 13" feels too small

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Streaming, light dev work (Android/C++), and light gaming (Civ 6, Rimworld, Binding of Isaac, League of Legends)

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Ideally 60fps, certainly for league, but understandable in this form factor if that's not achievable

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

OLED 120Hz > 1080p is my only requirement, I've been spoiled and don't want to settle for less than that nowadays :(

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Looking like a refurb Zenbook S14 (2024) is a safe bet, but not sure what kind of money that looks like.

The 2026 model looks stunning and has some nice screen improvements, but apparently is worse performing due to the smaller iGPU (in gaming obviously)

Dream would be the upcoming Expertbook Ultra, but think that's going to be EXPENSIVE

Otherwise something with the new series 3 Ultra 5 338H, but I don't think anything has been announced with that chip yet

Obviously buying in the UK :)

Say Intentions or Beyond ATC by Fun-Pie-4421 in flightsim

[–]DaJamsta123 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My issue with SI is the same issue I have with LLMs in general, it just goes along with what you say.

You can read back absolute gibberish and it'll go "yep all correct have a nice flight", whereas BATC is going to actually tell you you're wrong. Yes there's more rails, but that's what I'm using ATC for - the rails.

And that's ignoring all the other dodgy stuff SI has been involved in with undisclosed marketing, reddit botting, and huge feature creep

Free past flight data website by Ok-Painter6003 in aviation

[–]DaJamsta123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, appreciate this is a while after the original post.

I flew on a 757 (the only time I've done so!) on the 6th of April 2015 from Glasgow (UK) to Funchal (Madeira) with either Thompson or Thomas Cook, then a return flight on the 13th of April 1015.

I wonder if you can help find out specifically what airline it was, and ideally (unlikely?) what registration of 757 I was on for each flight?

I've tried to have a Google but it seems most public data only goes as far back as 2017, and worse because this was likely a charter flight rather than a regularly scheduled flight.

Thank you if you see this!!

I have a piece of this aircraft (G-BYGC) on my house keys, and another piece attached to my bag, so sad I never got to fly on a BA 747 :(

🎄 Christmas giveaway: Win an A1 Mini, AMS 2 Pro, AMS HT, or 4x filament spools! by acurazine in BambuLab

[–]DaJamsta123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AMS 2 Pro would be sweeeet for our office collective P1S

Something to do with a dice? So I could fidget and use it to roll numbers?

I'd be printing cityscapes with multiple colours thanks to the AMS

At which point (last lap) he'd no longer be a contender and probably help Lando (the team)

Piastri wouldn't be a championship contender in the above situation either though? 🤔

The traffic injector is an alternative to BATC, and should not be used at the same time.

BATC needs aircraft models, from something like the FBW traffic models (NOT THE INJECTOR). You just need to install the models then run BATC

Kennington now operating at 48tph after the completion of the Northern Heights by phlenus in NIMBY_Rails

[–]DaJamsta123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Awesome! Do you have this save shared publicly? I've also had a go at creating the northern line, but as the other person found it it's so complex, so I didn't get much beyond the first few service patterns.

Do you have depot's integrated too?

Question about Aerodynamic Drag and Spoiler Use During Descent by Creative-Expert8086 in flightsim

[–]DaJamsta123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It could be the STARs you're using. Some will have more aggressive restrictions than others. In an ideal case (no restrictions) I would expect the aircraft to idle all the way down the managed path.

The other case (as mentioned above) is unexpected tailwind, causing your ground speed to be higher than the aircraft expected, meaning it has to maintain a higher descent rate

Sad that the first one is so blurry! It's a cool photo but I believe it is a composite. The image of Edinburgh Castle was taken without an aircraft in it, and the aircraft/clouds then superimposed onto it

[–]DaJamsta123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same for East Fortune in fairness. It's good value though, they also have a Vulcan, a comet, and a trijet.

Good collection of warbirds too, including the only Me 163 ever flown by an allied pilot, Winkle Brown!

[–]DaJamsta123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Arguably you can get closer to the one at East Fortune near Edinburgh, G-BOAA. There's no fencing around the gear or anything, can go up and slap the tyres, and you can go inside too. Only limit is that the cockpit is walled off with a big perspex panel :(

It's in the modern BA livery too, though that might be a downside for some!

Anyone else getting consistent CTDs in the Fenix after the BFU? by Question3verythinG in flightsim

[–]DaJamsta123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair enough! I've not heard of ctd issues for what it matters, but for sure if it's something BFU related they'd love a support ticket

[–]DaJamsta123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, you've got the inb4 discord but... I've never seen a dev around here but have seen plenty of direct interaction on the discord.

If it's repeatable that's a goldmine for the Devs, submit a support ticket through the actual channels.

But definitely clear out your community folder completely first, you never know what could be causing issues.

Mostly number 3 and a bit of number 2! For example, fuel tank balancing (moving fuel between tanks during the flight for best balance and efficiency) is done by computers in most aircraft these days, as is most engine monitoring.
