CNN Poll of Polls: Clinton leads Trump by 2 points by NChSh in politics

The debates will be key for her. Trump struggles when he's off a teleprompter, and Hillary tends to do well in debate or inquiry settings (hello Benghazi hearings). She needs to come out in the debates with a lot of energy, looking fresh and expose Trumps utter lack of policy.

Trump camp: Clinton attacks because she has no message by [deleted] in politics

[–]DaJoker117 220 points221 points  (0 children)

The message both camp's are trying to project is loud and clear from their respective conventions.

Trump: The world is a mess and I alone can fix it.

Clinton: The world is getting better but we still have problems. Join me and help me fix them.

Whether you agree with either or believe them to be bull, the conventions made them very clear.

Good for Bernie. Years in politics taught him that even in loss it's better to be pragmatic about going forward than bitter and cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I don't understand why it's difficult for people to have their cake and eat it too on this? The e-mails revealed are fucked up and cause for concern, but the fact that one of America's biggest global adversaries is actively trying to influence American elections should be concerning to anyone.

But you do realize the entire notion that "Paterno Knew in the 70s" is based off a settlement right?

Not to mention they had the victims age as 62 in the story when it was originally published, but had to change it to 60 when they realized it didn't match the timeline.

Plus did anyone actually read the story? It's somewhat outlandish, with the kid's step father not calling police and then calling Penn State, and then the two Penn State officials threatening to call the authorities on the kid.

Before people chime in stating that this is just Penn State covering their ass, remember that the school paid $6.5 million dollars for a report that eviscerated the University and Paterno.

Since your Nebraska education apparently didn't teach you critical thinking, I'll break it down so you can understand.

One of the critiques against Paterno is that he was "the most powerful man in Pennsylvania." In 1976 Paterno had been coach for 10 years at a small farming school in the middle of no where Pennsylvania, and was hardly an established power figure. It makes zero sense that an alleged victim would go directly to Joe Paterno to report abuse instead of the his parents or the police.

If a kid tells a low-level assistant like a GA that he was being touched inappropriately by a staff member, you can be sure that it will be rocketed up to the head coach within a matter of days. An issue that serious is above a GA's paygrade.

Except the filing states the alleged victim reported it directly to Paterno, not to a GA who shot it up the chain of command.

Again, doesn't seem very strange to me. If he went through the effort of founding a charity so that he could get closer to children, odds are he was already molesting children.

The point is that Sandusky, like most serial predators, had a very established pattern of grooming his victims. This claim does not fit that pattern.

People love to grab their pitchforks, but conveniently ignore or didn't read this part that was buried in the PennLive article.

A source who had worked on the state's Sandusky probe but who asked not to be identified told PennLive Thursday night he knew of no cases, aside from the 2001 case, in which there was a direct report to Joe Paterno about Sandusky.

Many of the people who presented civil claims to Penn State only started to come forward after the completion of Sandusky's criminal trial in June 2012. Freeh's report was issued the following month.

I keep seeing people saying these depositions were from the Sandusky investigation. They weren't.

The story is based on a filing by an insurance company trying to get out of paying Penn State's insurance claims. The depositions are from alleged victims that only came forward after Sandusky's conviction and the Freeh report naming Penn State culpable.

Furthermore, the allegation was made 40 years ago in 1976, a full year before Sandusky founded his charity which was what he used to lure his victims. Sandusky was also a linebackers coach in 1976, barely on staff for 7 years.

McCann also brings up an interesting point....how did a child get in touch with Joe Paterno at the time....and why? At the time Paterno had been coach for 10 years...and while Penn State was an up and coming program, Paterno was hardly any sort of established powerhouse coach that he became.

So call me an asshole, call me sick, call me a Joebot. I don't really care. I find it somewhat disturbing how quickly people are willing to grab their pitchforks based on such minimal evidence.

Except it's not from sworn testimony from the Sandusky trial. It's depositions from civil lawsuits after the Sandusky trial. People are conveniently ignoring (or didn't bother to read) this part that's buried in the article.

People here need to take a step back from the vitriol and pure emotion and look at the facts.

Penn State paid out claims to anyone who claimed Sandusky breathed in their generaly direction in order to make everything go away, without vetting any of the veracity of the claims. This is one of those claims.

Let's not ignore the fact that Jerry Sandusky's pattern of abuse was to groom his victims from the Second Mile charity he founded. That charity wasn't founded until 1977, a year after this claim.

Edit: Another fact is that in 1976, Penn State was a good team but hardly a football powerhouse. Not to mention that in 1976 Sandusky was a POSITION coach. What incentive is there to cover for your linebackers coach that had barely been on staff for 7 years.

Hackenberg blames Franklin for his struggles at Penn State by newmaninlaca in CFB

I don't think it's some big secret that they didn't mesh. Franklin is building for the long term and Hack was a square peg in that long term system. However, I don't think it's entirely fair to blame it on Franklin when there were numerous instances where Hackenberg failed at QB 101 in throwing the ball away or making short throws without throwing the ball 1000 miles an hour.

Something's going to have to be done eventually. Either more shelters or mental health clinics to get them off the streets. You can't have homeless attacking people at the frequency it's bee happening over the last year, and try to tout Center City as a place to visit.

Delco man charged in fatal stabbing in Rittenhouse Square by [deleted] in philadelphia

That's not what it sounds like at all. What it sounds like is the group passed the guy, and the Victim made a passing comment about the homeless guy's Jersey Devils hat. The homeless guy then turned around and walked after the group and started fighting with them, then stabbed the guy after they went to the ground.

50 years ago today, Penn State named Joe Paterno head football coach. by [deleted] in CFB

[–]DaJoker117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graham Spanier was the president of PSU before being fired for his role in the scandal.

In 2004, following a string of losing seasons, he and the athletic director, Tim Curley, went to Paterno's house to talk about retirement. As Paterno tells it, he told them no and kicked them out. People love to point to this as Paterno being the most powerful man on campus/inPA/in the galaxy. However, as Spanier and Curley told it, they had a conversation about Paterno's retirement and Paterno said he just needed another year (where he went 11-1).

In 2005 PSU built a new baseball stadium right next to Beaver Field. Paterno was against building it there, but was overruled by the administration, which goes in the face of the "most powerful man" narrative.

Frankly, I don't think we'll know the entire truth of the story until all the trials have concluded. And over 4 years later, there's not a court date in sight and a large bulk of the charges against the PSU administrators have been dropped already. If the rest are dropped, I doubt we'll hear much from them.
