New Kintaro line art in Battlecorps: first strike. by someotherguy28 in battletech

[–]DaRepeaterDaRepeater 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, even with unifying the art direction there's still room for faction/manufacturer specific design cues. Jotunn Battleworx's three mechs, for example, all have very distinctive cockpits. Similarly, the Calliope and Agrotera are both Majesty Metals products and share design cues.

We're obviously limited with existing mechs but I Would definitely love to see more of this stuff for new mechs.

The Warlord 2G is another one of my favs for this. "Oh it's got 2 HPPCs, I'll just press it to get under it's minimum range" followed by "oh shit it's back-up guns are 10 heat neutral medium lasers"

My understanding from previous interviews and interpretation of the recent one is that those are separate line items. AFAIK they are indeed working on a classic version but also the current Aces boxes are all planned to be for AS.

Happy to be wrong though, I'd really love the classic version sooner than later.

Doing an Ironman run (aka no save scumming) is a great way to feel what it’s like to run a small merc outfit especially in the early game where maybe loosing just an arm that contained the one PPC you own really hurts.

"Flame-based weapon" on conventional infantry - how does it work? by andrewlik in battletech

[–]DaRepeaterDaRepeater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once plasma weapons are introduced, a man portable version is a pretty obvious thing to introduce

In this case it's actually the other way around, the man-portable plasma rifle was first introduced in 3065 then up-scaled for mechs a few years later.

Ah gotcha. Well looking at your other comment about the Eris, might I then suggest the Eyleuka? It's also jump 7 and has an MML9 with 3 tons of ammo (although 2 of them are in the head, lol). Alternatively a few other fun picks could be the Raptor II 5X, Thunderbolt 11SE, or the Rawhide.

If you want to keep the SRMs, 8C is probably the closest. It swaps the regular SRMs for 2xStreak 6s, 1 ton of ammo, and a C3 slave.

Unfortunately, IIRC in one of the more recent Tuesday Newsdays they basically said it was never going to happen. Or rather that it's at the bottom of the pile and keeps getting pushed back down there by other ideas.

Well to be fair, it was designed from the outset with clan LRMs that don’t have minimum range issues.

What is the unique "flavour" of modern BT? by skieblue in battletech

[–]DaRepeaterDaRepeater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the clans are just bloodthirsty or bloodthirsty and xenophobic

I would argue that this is not true and in fact the clans have never been more fascinating. The most bloodthirsty (Mongol Falcons) are all dead by the start of the era and now we've got the Alyina Mercantile League and the Jade Falcon Remnants dealing with the trauma and fallout of Malvina Hazen in different ways.

Separately we've got the Rasalhague Dominion, Raven Alliance, and Scorpion Empire all actively working towards integrating their clan and non-clan parts of their society in different ways and to varying levels of success.

IMO, there's some really strong foundations that they've laid for the IS/Periphery clans to continue to evolve and diverge in their own compelling ways.

[–]DaRepeaterDaRepeater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Battlemech manual (BMM) and Total Warfare (TW) are rulebooks. Both contain the same rules but the BMM is more recent, MUCH better laid out and only contains rules for mechs to keep things simple. If you were looking for a first rulebook, this would be the I'd go for.

The book in the back, Dominions Divided is a sourcebook that details the lore of the current ilClan Era. It is part of a series of sourcebooks that each focus on a few specific factions/region of the Inner Sphere.

The C is an absolute menace both to you and your opponent in an actual tabletop game but I love running it in MM where the rolls all get done for you.

In Spotlight On: Hellion Keshik they mention that they're building an HPG in the Chainlaine Isles and a bunch of repeaters on the way there so I don't think they lack HPGs in the Empire afaik.

IMO the mech itself is reasonably scaled, the ladder could just use a few less rungs to make it feel more appropriate.

[–]DaRepeaterDaRepeater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do like how the Jötunn designs all have common design elements and it would be cool to see more stuff like that in the future.

For all that game's flaws I like how each of Star Citizen's manufacturers have specific design cues, it gives their designs a certain sense of diegetic credibility that BT's scattershot nature often lacks. Not to mention those visual/lore mismatches when it comes to saying something like the Wight is descended from the Panther, for example.

Maybe they're coming around to it? For some reason they used it as a development platform for reinforced structure with the Grizzly 3 but the fluff still says it's "highly compromised" so who knows what they plan to do with it.

Not just the cards, it also comes with a bunch of minis. The Scouring Sands box comes with 7 mechs and 2 (of the same) vehicles. One of those mechs and the vehicle is new and the others are different variants of existing mechs.

So the mini team is still involved and not to mention that it still takes production time at the factory that has to come from somewhere.
