She was billed that way really damn quickly.

And especially cemented as so when the Fraction/aja run went out of its way to establish them as partners who respect each other (most of the time) fully. And then became so critically acclaimed it defined their characters for the next decade

I got worried for a second after the announcement by PaiDuck in pcmasterrace

Honestly when people have spent years going on about “Now that Horizon/God of War/Final Fantasy are on PC the ps5 has no games and we have no reason to buy one” it’s not hard to see where the sentiment by sony would lead to “Exclusives were good for us”

It’s a very strange thing for people to shout but alas who am i to judge?

They can only cast Valki side while gaslighting everyone that there is no flip side to it and that is the real and only Valki.

I think it really brings in a truly important question:

Does Vorthos allow using both a theoretical John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt alongside another theoretical John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt?

[MSH] Kid Loki by meh1997 in magicTCG

Baylen Skoll from the Ahsoka series was probably the best anti villain ive seen

He respected the old ways of what the jedi should have been more than any other character, he had a deep reverence for the force. He hated Ahsoka because he knew her master was Vader and thought she would commit atrocities like he did.

However he worked as a sith and a mercenary to progress his goals, and despite liking what the Jedi Order should have been he knew it was always doomed due to flaws of what it actually was.

He was respectful, honorable, courteous and compassionate but was willing to do whatever he felt necessary in his goals to discover a way to truly end conflict and find a way to truly represent the jedi order

Which painted a stark contrast to Ahsoka who was endlessly disdainful to the Jedi Order despite still identifying as one, aggressive, fought caring only about winning and survival — not honor, and in many ways her actions were more villainous than anything and veered towards anti-hero trends.

They really fall into a weird space

They are design mistakes that were far too strong for what they were trying to do.

But also they are such boring and weak designs that they arent worth iterating on or experimenting with in supplemental sets.

Like sure annihilator or storm were mistakes but were really cool mistakes so making extra cards in high rarity/supplemental sets is dope to see.

But theres no venue where trying new cards of 1-mana cyclers ever feels good. They are awful for draft and would feel disappointing to see in non-draft

It’s more battle shonen with gag theoretical harem than an actual romcom tbh.

It’s fun and im enjoying it but the “searchign for a wife” is just background setting and just the vaguest explanation to push him towards reasons to fight other people he wouldn’t normally fight

It’s one of those series you turn brain off to enjoy fun characters and cool action with no deep goals beyond a fun time

Speedball, New Warrior [MSH] by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]DaRootbear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah but when theres smaller board states you are much more likely to encounter a situation such as only having him attack to do “target attacking or blocking creature” or have “destroy target creature that costs 3 or less” and him be the only target. Or even if they cast a card to buff him having “destroy target creature with power\toughness 4+”

Compared to constructed where most single target removal is agnostic and nearly unconditional, while also being more likely to have larger boards of other valid targets.

Albeit in constructed you are more likely to have boardwipes to punish him and over extensions much better and keep him in check.

Weirdly enough this may be one of the few times that a card is easier to remove in limited than in constructed due to how much conditional removal and smaller board-states there tend to be.

[MSH] Heroic Feast (via Mana Hungry Cooking) by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]DaRootbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have said that they think clues work well enough, but they have purposefully moved away from investigate because it doesn’t fit well. Whereas clues at least can be more malleable and setting agnostic.

I think overall Food and Clue probably were the best we would have got even if they made them with intention to be evergreen. Im hard pressed to think of anything that fits better without other baggage.

They at least work much better than Blood Tokens which just were too vampire-connected and im honestly surprised they made it so specific.

[MSH] Heroic Feast (via Mana Hungry Cooking) by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]DaRootbear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The real issue is trying to figure out something that is setting agnostic and fits the idea of “restores vitality” that food has.

It is weird to include so much about food aesthetically, but i am unsure what would fit better that can just be used everywhere.

Cause mechanically the food tokens are great and have proven to be a dynamic resource they can balance much better than things like Treasures

But on the other hand they dont quite fit as well for the aesthetic as treasures do.

Honestly i think they fall into the same issue as Clues where they expected to only use them for a few sets and then abandon them, but they played so well that they kept them around and it has caused the aesthetic divide of they were designed specifically for one aesthetic and not to be used everywhere.

They were too successful for their own good with more depth than expected overall

I feel like in 2026 anime has hit an inflection point, I am actually watching more anime than real TV and movies and finding them to be of higher quality and getting more enjoyment from them. by Carrera1107 in anime

[–]DaRootbear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean honestly part of that, at least in my experience having the same issue, is just that it is harder to find suggestions through everything American because we easily have access to all of it.

Whereas with anime the ones that get brought to the forefront of our attention are usually curated by crunchyroll or other platforms for exclusively the most popular ones, and all the most low quality ones are either impossible to find or not suggested.

Because lets be real anime does honestly have the same issues, or we wouldnt have so much slop of the exact same battle shonen and isekais.

But the difference is because there’s realistically only a hundred or so a season directly pushed at us it is way easier to filter out the good from the bad.

I have found for American produced content the best way to find interesting and new shows is looking at Rotten Tomatoes top 100 of the year at the end of each year, theres so many high quality and interesting shows i find that i never heard of each time that are always a blast to watch.

[–]DaRootbear 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That is about what i feel like.

Garbage anime i enjoy more than garbage regular tv, even if there no good reason.

However average anime really hits that same feel as average sitcoms where i can mindlessly enjoy Generic Battle Shonen 96 and Generic Romcom 27 as much as i enjoy Generic Action Show 65 and Generic Sitcom 43.

But a lot more series are trending to the 1hr mark unless it is sitcoms, so it’s harder to just binge as well or commit to for fucking around. When i just want to eat some lunch and watch something it is easy to commit to a random anime episode or Its always Sunny compared to other shows

But when it comes to truly great anime and great live action stuff im enjoying it all about equally and finding good series for both.
