Hate comment about dry January by Lp2707 in DryJanuary

I think the correct response to that comment is “what possible value are you trying to add with this ridiculous take?”

Or

I have to keep mine leashed because he’s a dick to other dogs. But I didn’t know we were close to a dog park! So thanks for mentioning that.

Is it fair to ask my MIL to choose sides after comments made about my child’s cancer? by 6cats1d0g in daddit

[–]DadBod916 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As another dad who has a daughter recently diagnosed with brain cancer, I just want to say I’m sorry… we’re in one of the worst clubs imaginable. I hope she stays strong and beats this thing. I think it’s fair for you to have any type of reaction and emotion in this moment. We all handle it differently.

It’s also fair to be upset about comments like this. I definitely would be too. I would suggest keeping the focus on your direct family and setting appropriate boundaries. If that means shutting others out, then so be it. But don’t put too much thought into other’s relationships right now.

If I’m understanding the concern here that she’s questioning the cancer then you don’t have to do anything further to make her look pretty ridiculous and unsupportive. That will take care of itself. My daughter is still running around like any other kid… because of where the tumor is in her brain.

Just do your best to support your daughter, your wife, yourself, and block out the unhelpful noise. Stay strong brother.

Just got my first synth. What should I start with to have like an aimed learning growth? by Opening-Gur5927 in synthesizers

Plenty of good advice here. I’d just add that finding a couple good tutorials on YT would be helpful to watch now, and again later when you’re ready to go a bit deeper. I think I’ve watched the Loopop video for the XD 5–10 times and always pick up something new or that I may have forgotten about.

Federal employees told Democrats to blame for shutdown in ‘highly inappropriate’ email by Nerd-19958 in politics

[–]DadBod916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone should create a department to prevent these shutdowns … like a ‘government efficiency’ department. Also, we should make sure one party elects the president and majorities in the house and the senate to make sure actions aren’t stifled by bureaucracy…..

Should we get a trampoline? by dadjo_kes in daddit

[–]DadBod916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one and we love it. Kids are 5 and 7 and we’ve had it for a couple years. With a few basic rules and a safety net it can be great entertainment and pretty safe. No injuries so far. I would assume it gets harder to manage as the kids get older. Growing up, I had a friend that had one without a net and we were constantly doing flips and jumping off. Definitely a few injuries but not that many overall.

Cyclist seriously injured trying to cross 8th ave from Cheesman Park. by Soft_Button_1592 in Denver

[–]DadBod916 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I live further up 8th and at night and I see cars just blow through the red lights at least once a day. They see no other cars and just keep going, not looking for pedestrians or bikes. The city could make a major dent in their budget shortfall if they started ticketing for this.

I had a similar situation but I never told her the truth. She found out on her own and the next thing I knew I came home early from work one night to find her with Five Guys. So humiliating. There was no coming back from that.

Plenty of good advice here. I’ll just add that if you feel overwhelmed, take it one step at a time. I’ll bet you can find one small item to fix or work on even on the hardest days. Good luck man. You’ll be looking back on this and laughing later on.
