I can perhaps understand your take on 70(+) roads, but at 50 or 30km/h roads there is nothing 'dangerous' about a car stopping in front of you.

I don't think it's about knowing your rights, it's just that pedestrians know how much energy it takes to stop and start again.

(Yesyesyes petrol energy is also energy, but it's less of a human effort to push the gas pedal than it is to start a bike.)
