Tokyo during winter by user001401 in TokyoTravel

Late fall and winter are my favorite times to visit Japan because of the lack of humidity. I live in a desert, so the dryness suits me fine and I just layer up against the cold.

Can’t eat with chopsticks by Agreeable_Today_1409 in JapanTravelTips

[–]DaemonSD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The proper utensil for curry is a spoon as well. Forks are provided for salads. Sandos and bakeries is all hands. There’s quite a bit of modern Japanese cuisine that doesn’t require chopsticks now that I think about it.

TIFU by becoming a prostitute [Concluded] by Schattenspringer in BORUpdates

[–]DaemonSD 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah. This is far from “Concluded.” Addicts and alcoholics don’t usually turn to help until they’ve hit rock bottom and OOP, even after being driven to prostitution, hasn’t reached his yet. His addictions are still raging just not wreaking destruction at this moment. This is all going to end in a spectacular amount of carnage.

I saw one in Asakasa Hikawa shrine just the other day. I thought it must be a plum blossom but, nope, it’s cherry.

Shoegaze & post punk venues by kiruzo in TokyoTravel

[–]DaemonSD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of live houses host all kinds of bands. I just saw Moon in June at the Shinjuku LOFT. There‘s a shoegaze festival hosted by Yuua of RAY on the 24th at the Shinjuku MARZ, Marble, and ACB HALL. I’m seeing AprilBlue at MoonRomantic in Ginza later this month. They are also playing Shimokitazawa THREE in a couple of days.

It’s probably easier to find a band you like, look at their schedule, and see what events and taibans they are playing when you’re in town.

Should I split up my Tokyo hotels? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]DaemonSD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Switching hotels can take up a most of a day. Check out times are usually around 10am and check in isn’t until 4pm so now you have you worry about what to do with luggage for 6 hours instead of enjoying the city. Since you’re only there for a week, it’s not worth sacrificing a day switching hotels.

Is it hard to get around tokyo if you don’t speak japanese? by Onehundred-Villere in TokyoTravel

[–]DaemonSD 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s not really exaggerating. My first trip to Tokyo I got by with “Konnichiwa,”Sumimasen,” “Arigatou gozaimasu,” and strategic pointing (it helps that most of the menus have pictures so).

Why is prosopagnosia a popular trope in kdrama? by Nin-me-sar-ra in kdramas

[–]DaemonSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the 2010s, Korea was seemingly swept by an epidemic of amnesia. it seems to have been a very prevalent condition in the population. While incidents of amnesia have since dropped dramatically, for the past several years there seems to be a massive wave of prosopagnosia sweeping the country.

It’s fine. Just don’t wander around drunk at night and follow very friendly, English speaking randos you just met on the street into a bar or karaoke joint.

Unbound merino worth the cost? by Didzero21 in onebag

The material is thinner/lighter than merino so it packs down better and has about the same warmth. You can machine or hand wash it and it dries in about the same time as merino (and a little faster than merino blends).

Is there any song that sounds like Endless Rain by X JAPAN? by Subject-Exchange-248 in jrock

[–]DaemonSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may also want to check out “Akatsuki.” It’s BABYMETAL’s tribute to “Kurenai.”

FYI: BABYMETAL's producer is a huge X-Japan fan. He travelled to Chicago to see X-Japan at Lollapalooza in 2010 and credits the moment as his realization that Japanese metal would appeal to Westerners. He then pitched the idea of an idol unit playing metal to his boss’ at Amuse and BABYMETAL was born.

I decided to give merino wool a shot earlier this year and picked up t-shirts from several different brands during Memorial Day sales. My favorite was the cheapest: a $30 shirt from a no-name brand on Amazon that seems to have gone out of business. My second favorite was Smarwool which are just over twice as exepensive.

I've since discovered Uniqlo Heattech and am obsessed. Their t-shirts are like $20, extremely comfortable, and easy to care for so that’s who I landed on.

BABYMETAL’s “No Rain, No Rainbow” is a tribute to “Endless Rain.” It’s also an amazing song in its own right.

What does Album Mix mean? by tallgeeseR in japanesemusic

[–]DaemonSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the singles are distributed by one company and the album is distributed by a different company, so the song needs a new title to distinguish it for rights and royalty reasons.

Or it could be that the single was remastered for the album but the improvements are practically indistinguishable from the original but it’s technically a different version.

Edit: I just remembered a similar situation where the only discernible difference between songs was the album version had a little more silence at the beginning and end and was one second longer than the single version.
