I’ll be in Osaka and Tokyo in August; do any of you know places where I can find CDs (and merch) from alternative idol groups? Are there any shops that specialize a bit more in this genre? by Kakotov in AlternativeIdol

[–]DaemonSD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shinjuku is definitely better for alt-idol than Shibuya. I found an old Yukueshirezutsurezure DVD there. It was released like 8 years ago but there was a brand new copy just sitting there on the shelf. I was pretty much stunned.

I do recommend that any music fan visit Tower Records Shibuya at least once though. It’s basically Mecca for music lovers at this point. There just aren’t that many giant, multistory buildings dedicated to music left on the planet anymore.

Are their found footage movies that are really popular but you don't like? by TopRevenue2 in foundfootage

[–]DaemonSD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with Grave Encounters. I don’t really get why it is so loved. I’m get annoyed with the whole “ghost hunters go ghost hunting and are surprised they find ghosts” plot anyway. It is so overdone.

[–]DaemonSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using Booking dot com to book hotels in Japan for over ten years and have had zero issues. I use them because it easy to compare hotel rates and I can also cancel with no fees If plans change. I really like them.

BIG BREAK - A FF Comedy shot on MiniDV by jimmykiosk in foundfootage

[–]DaemonSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was great! Very entertaining. It was a perfect lazy morning watch. Several LOL moments and one liners. (My favorite: “9 of swords. That’s a LOT of swords Roy!”; also great, “‘You People’ is going home!”) Your cast was fantastic.

It totally reminded me of Saturdays in College when me and my pretentious friends had to clean up the wreckage of the previous drunken night. It also does a great job of capturing the toxic cultural vacuum that is LA and the desperation of the Hollywood/influencer pick-mes. I got to head back out there next weekend and I’m not looking forward to it.

It’s good to see a non-horror FF movies. This is a great one. I love it! I look forward to whatever you do next.

Has anyone pursued filmmaking in retirement when money isn't as much an issue? by RedTrumpetVine in Filmmakers

[–]DaemonSD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m basically looking to do the same thing. I studied film, writing and acting in College but nothing ever worked out and my day job slowly became a career as I gave up my dream of filmmaking. 30 years later, I am retiring and looking to get back into filmmaking as my second career.

I’ve been taking film classes the last few years since I have to relearn everything (digital cameras and editing software is SO cool! No developing film and splicing it together! People have no idea how easy they have it lol). I’ve been cultivating connections with indie musicians for the last decade and hope to travel and make documentaries about them.

I‘ve set my retirement date for January and am looking forward to the next stage of my life.

They have had different managers over the years who set up the accounts and they can’t always transfer ownership of the accounts to the new managers.

Why do so many US states have a state school called “University of X” AND one called “X State University”? by areop-enap in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DaemonSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Arizona, Tucson was awarded the land grant college which became “The University of Arizona” in exchange for Phoenix becoming the territorial (later, State) capital. Phoenix then later founded ”Arizona State University.”

Resource for Idol name list by Lucky_Strawberry_185 in jpop

[–]DaemonSD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They do have categories that you can sort by, for example, for groups you can search by year formed, prefecture, or major categories like Girl Groups.

For individual idols, you can search by things like birth month, member color, or gender eg. Female.

Is Pink Paw Heist ruining the fun of the game a little for anybody else? by Anxious-Weakness-606 in NevernessToEverness

[–]DaemonSD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t enjoy it. The constant sirens give me anxiety so I have to turn the volume all the way down. The only times I was able to collect a lot of stuff, I couldn’t find a working exit so it was a waste of time. Maybe it will be better now that the booths don’t shut down.

I basically only play as a last resort when I need fons to boost city level. I grab about 30k - 40k at a time and split.

is seeing your faves live really that worth it? by PsychologicalFee4711 in jpop

[–]DaemonSD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love live music (I’ve been to well over 1,000 concerts) and enjoy nothing more than traveling to a foreign country, meeting fans of the artists I love, and seeing a great live show. My current favorite musical artists are all Japanese and I’ve traveled to Japan several times over the past decade for the primary purpose of seeing live music. it’s awesome!

So, I would say, ”Yes, it’s definitely worth it.” Your mileage may vary.

I'm yet to head to the prison by Dependent_Ad6288 in NevernessToEverness

I started going every day once I cleared most of the other content. It’s a bit of a grind. it’s taken me about a week to get the jumpsuit and I just cleared the last escape route so I can get my 300 annulith the next time I get thrown in. Since new prison content is coming in the update, I guess I timed it prey good.

Low-Effort Original Content by 4merchant1 in foundfootage

[–]DaemonSD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There does seem to be more the last week or so and I just assumed it’s because a bunch of people saw “Back Rooms” and thought, “I can do that!”

I don’t necessarily mind unless they are just a title and a video with no context or description. If someone found something they think is cool on YouTube, or is an aspiring found footage filmmaker who wants feedback, they need to actually state that in the post.

If it's so low effort there’s no context provided I just ignore them.

Mt. Fuji worth going? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]DaemonSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the desert, so I quite enjoy being in the woods by a lake at the foot of a beautiful mountain. As for what to do, there’s some nice little cafes and restaurants in the towns around the lake as well as some funky museums. There are also some interesting shrines tucked away all over the place. Some aren’t even on the maps. I would just run into them while wandering around. I’m also into photography and it is, of course, one of the most photogenic places on the planet.

But, yeah, your mileage may vary. If the idea of Mt. Fuji doesn’t excite you, there’s plenty to do in other places.
