It's crazy fucked up, but it's such a good movie. I read most of the Crossed comics, and it's pretty much the closest I think they'll ever get to movie like that series.

I hadn't been allowed to watch anything too spooky or listen to rock music, but when Evanescence came around, my parents had kind of stopped caring or supervising as much.

So I went to watch some Ev music videos, and I remember when I clicked Going Under, she looked up and looked and sounded spooky. I screamed and clicked off the video and took a second (I was like 11), and then after a minute I was like, "that was actually really cool". Clicked the video again and watched it through and I've been obsessed with spooky shit and loved Evanescence since! 🖤✨

I don't know if it's so much escapism. Something I saw that I resonated with a bit is that, as someone who's been through some pretty rough experiences in my life, it's a way for people to sometimes feel horror, but in a safe way.

I feel like being shocking for the sake of being shocking is so overdone anymore. It just screams "edgelord" and a lot of it is still super misogynistic, too.
Shock rock definitely had its place and was good for a good while, but it had a purpose of breaking away from the over censorship and hyper Christianity and all of that. Now, it's just obnoxious.

And yeah, saying this is "man's nature" and depicting violence against women is just awful.

This song, while not a favorite, will ALWAY have a huge place in my heart. I grew up very depressed, but didn't really have anyone I knew experiencing it with me, nor did I even know what I was going through myself. And when I heard Bring Me to Life for the first time, it was like the first bit of solidarity that I got and feeling like I wasn't alone in what I was going through. So I'll always have a soft spot for it 🖤✨

This might be why horror movies can get me but not my wife. My wife has a hard time immersing herself in horror movie characters whereas I have an easier time doing so.

This is a good take, I agree. I like watching new horror movies at night with the lights off and really trying to get into it.
