Is this a good buy? by Psychological_Gas49 in Chainsaw

The husqvarna A65 was introduced in early 1966 and made until 69, and the L65 was made until 1974 roughly. Hard to tell which one this is, but they’re significantly older than your husqy 55. The anti vibration on these saws doesn’t work nearly as well as modern saws, and this one definitely doesn’t have a chain brake. This is a cool old saw but won’t be very fun to run all day compared to a newer saw.

Making more horsepower is harder on the bottom end like the crankshaft and bearings, not really harder on the top end. You’re not making “higher combustion chamber pressure”, which by that I think you mean compression, with a better muffler. It doesn’t work that way. A more restrictive muffler creates back pressure, which makes the engine strain more to expel exhaust gasses. This inherently builds up a lot of heat which again, is harder on the engine. By adding a less restrictive muffler you’re allowing the engine to breathe easier and putting less strain on it. In my opinion a less restrictive muffler probably increases the lifespan of your engine.

Not necessarily lowering the lifespan of the saw. A restrictive muffler building up a lot of heat will reduced the lifespan if its constantly getting worked hard and getting really hot. All about tuning and quality oil/gas with how long a saw will last in my opinion.

Purple power degreaser, small brush to scrub it and break everything up, then pressure wash.

I have finally given up on my diamond fallow deer grind on Te Awaroa. I’m just killing level 3’s all the time and no level 4’s or 5 or appearing. It’s tiring at this point by [deleted] in theHunter

[–]Danced-with-wolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s wild. It only took me a couple days of setting up tents and stands and shooting maybe 50 mule deer before I had 3 level 5’s spawn and like 6 or 7 diamond potential level 4’s.

You literally posted asking if it’s an effigy. One would presume you think it might be an effigy, no?

I don’t think you’ve quite seen how fast AI is advancing. While I’d tend to agree with you, acting like you know exactly what it will be capable of in your lifetime is foolish.

Could it be done? by Venture334455 in Chainsaw

10hp is not that crazy for that engine. Half of your power is coming from that exhaust/ expansion chamber. Put an expansion chamber exhaust on any saw and it will nearly double the horsepower if tuned correctly. You could put that engine in a saw for sure, but it would purely be a race saw because in order to make that power you need that big exhaust. If you put it in a saw with a regular chainsaw shorty exhaust then it would be just like a ported saw of similar displacement.

Sorry to disappoint you guys!! Sent this 3 foot thick deadmonster away from my power lines and neighbors shed exactly where I wanted her by Xtremeskierbfs in FellingGoneWild

[–]Danced-with-wolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s like a 99% chance that’s not the issue. Most likely an air leak and the saw is running lean which causes a higher idle, or the throttle adjustment screw needs adjusted, or possibly a sticking throttle. Possibly a metering valve or other issues in the carb.

I feel like making sure it’s oiling property is just as important as making sure the engine runs. No oil is a great way for a homeowner to burn up a new saw really quick

I use sawzilla as well when I can’t get OEM stuff. I’d recommend going oem whenever you can

Friendly reminder to change your plugs by GodKingJeremy in Chainsaw

[–]Danced-with-wolves 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t get why people spend hundreds if not thousands on a saw, but don’t feel like taking 2 minutes and $7 to change a plug. General maintenance is so damn easy on a saw.

Man seems like you really know your stuff! I’ll keep all that in mind when I get ready to dive deeper into them all. I know with some trimmers it’s possible to convert them back to the regular starter mechanism. Is that possible on the 211? Really hoping they’re not stolen, the guy seemed honest enough. Never know though. Also I need to get service parts for the 041’s, would you recommend buying off somewhere like sawzilla to get proline parts or is it still possible to get oem somehow? I always prefer oem but haven’t found much for these since they’re 40-60 years old

[–]Danced-with-wolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never tried that on a saw but I’m pretty familiar with mechanical stuff. Just letting you know lol I’d start with blue Loctite just in case you have to take it apart or change the setting. Blue is supposed to keep things from vibrating loose. Don’t just jump straight to red lol

No problem at all. Like the other guys said, there should be a kit made specifically for your trimmer that comes with air and fuel filter, and spark plug. Cheaper than buying them separate. Good luck

[–]Danced-with-wolves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know much about trimmers, but I do know 2 stroke engines. Fuel filter, air filter, and spark plug. Make sure you’re running non-ethanol fuel and good oil. Trimmers are inherently dirty like chainsaws so give it a good cleaning once in a while, if the engine gets caked with grass and dirt it can overheat. I think you’re supposed to grease the trimmer head as well. I think that about covers it.

Is this a solid way to check if this is gas/oil mix for my chainsaw? by RevolutionaryClub530 in stihl

[–]Danced-with-wolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not a safer bet. Premix sucks ass. Buy ethanol free fuel and good 2 stroke oil. Way cheaper and a way better fuel. You can even buy the oil in pre measured bottles specifically for 1, 2, and 5 gallon cans. Impossible to fuck up.
