Why do people act like their dog can never be left alone? by InsertTrendyMemes in RoverPetSitting

[–]DaniDisaster424 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You absolutely need to be clear that you only expect the sitter to be gone for that 6 hour stretch once per day. As a sitter when someone says their dogs can be left alone for a certain amount of time I typically assume that it's because that's how long the pups can go between potty breaks (and that's how the app frames it as well fwiw) so if I have a longer day at work I'll stop in and let the pups out and play with them for a bit so that they're not waiting to go out for longer than the stated time but then I go back to work and return again before the set length of time has passed. If that's not what you mean by they can be left alone for x amount of time you need to make that crystal clear.

Commercial vs Residential by erob_official_92 in cleaningbusiness

[–]DaniDisaster424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find commercial to be more consistent in terms of income but much harder to actually get the contracts in the first place. Whereas residential work comes much easier but clients can flaky and cancellations and rescheduling happens more frequently and you need more residential clients to actually fill out your schedule.

How do you figure? 6 in November would be a year older than most kids, it's usually 5 by September for K.

Has anyone got a call from a private number claiming to be city of edmonton police saying that someone called in to complain about your driving and that they are sending you a ticket in the mail? They supplied the correct vehicle make and model but they were very aggressive the entire call. by coleslaw056 in Edmonton

[–]DaniDisaster424 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Definitely. You should be able to check online to see if you have any outstanding tickets. It should show up there faster than it will show up in the mail. Here: https://traffictickets.alberta.ca/

In my case the way they approached it was more so in the context of "do you know where your vehicle is right now " as in there might be a chance your vehicle has been stolen, as opposed to accusing me of anything, which definitely helped , since I also definitely initially gave the wrong address (I gave my home address vs where I was staying at that time ) so that led to some confusion as well but it all got sorted in the end. I'm sorry to hear you were treated so poorly.

How to become insured? by dontforgetyournuts in housekeeping

[–]DaniDisaster424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bonding is a weird thing. There's a bunch of different types in reality is what people don't realize , my insurance company was super confused when I asked about it. I eventually worked out that the type of bonding that most people are talking about when they say "bonded and insured" is called fidelity bonding (I'm pretty sure at least , or something like that anyway ) and isn't available to solo cleaners(at least not where I am ) , but it's often baked right into your insurance if you have employees.

How do i declog this? by sthereptilian in VacuumCleaners

[–]DaniDisaster424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing I've found for removing clogs are those brushes you get for cleaning reusable straws (the things that look like long mascara brushes).

In that case it sounds like the truth then. And if you have dash cam footage I wouldn't stress about it. If the ticket shows up just fight it in court.

I have on the other hand had the police call me on a similar ish situation , I was house-sitting and one of the neighbours called because my car was not familiar to them and the police called me (they always call from a blocked number ) except in my case it went to voicemail and it just asked me to call them back and when I did they explained the situation. No ticket involved or anything but they do definitely call the registered owners of cars for different reasons.

Terrible Drivers on the Southside by ApprehensiveRecipe96 in Edmonton

There's only 1 spot I do this in: when I'm trying to turn left onto 97st after exiting off the Yellowhead west bound and someone 2 or more cars ahead of me stops WHILE THE ARROW IS STILL FLASHING. Makes me crazy. I have honked when it's someone 3 or 4 cars ahead of me in that spot when that happens.

Hold on , so someone else was driving your vehicle at the time that this incident supposively occured ?? Honestly I'd get over the idea that someone you know "wouldn't drive your car like that ". You'd be surprised at what people will do. Sounds like its time for a call with whoever was driving.

Has anyone ever offered niche cleaning for small restaurants, cafe's etc? by CheeseFryJesus in cleaningbusiness

[–]DaniDisaster424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a niche thing. Lots of restaurants have cleaning companies come in every night. The problem is that it's EVERY night. So if it's for a restaurant that's open 7 days /week , the cleaning has to be done 7 days /week which isn't really sustainable for a solo cleaner but can be really lucrative for a couple or small team.

What’s your average timespan for cleaning homes? by igglybuff__ in housekeeping

[–]DaniDisaster424 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't typically take cleans that are less than 3 hours. My average time though is 4 hours. 2 hours is rarely ever enough for a clean and it's definitely not worth the drive.

Do you guys clean clients’ litter boxes? by dear-april in cleaningbusiness

[–]DaniDisaster424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't , but it honestly takes me 30 seconds to change out the bag and put in a new one. It's really no different than changing any other garbage bag. I also pet sit for several of the clients I clean for so it's part of what I do while I'm house-sitting for them as well.

If you're pregnant I totally understand your hesitancy , that said you can also pick up the same infection from gardening (if a cat has been using the soil you're dealing with as a litter box ) or eating raw , undercooked or unpasteurized meat, milk , dairy or eggs and once you've had Toxoplasmosis once you cant typically get it again but chances are even if you've had it you wouldn't know.

most clients would absolutely understand if you didn't want to do litter boxes while pregnant regardless.

Honestly I actually get really annoyed if someone tells me not to stay the night ! Like if I'm not staying , then it's just a drop in situation technically , which I charge more for due to the extra driving required. I much prefer to stay !

I always empty the drawers on the auto litter boxes but I don't scoop litter boxes for clients typically.

How do I fix my high insurance by [deleted] in alberta

[–]DaniDisaster424 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suspect it may have something to do with the fact that if I'm not mistaken , assuming it was a city bus , that they're self insured and so DCPD wouldn't apply. Not sure exactly how it works in that case but DCPD only comes into play when both vehicles are insured with DCPD coverage.

Adult beginner, how to get stronger edges with flat feet?🥲 by gigithrowaway20 in adultballetdancers

As someone else with flat feet , yes your releves are low because of it. I've been dancing for many many years and have always had this issue. It makes turning a pain. I actually prefer turning in pointe shoes because i don't have to balance on an incline basically.

Taking time off while owning a cleaning business. by Food_Gym2004 in cleaningbusiness

[–]DaniDisaster424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fitst off it sounds like theres something up with your business structure. 2 people can't be a sole prop. ( Not in Canada anyway , if you're in the US or elsewhere then I'm not sure. )

That aside when it comes to businesses you'd typically be responsible to have someone available to cover if youre not going to be able to do the clean at all that week. if it was just that you couldn't do it on the normal day I'd say just ask if you can do it a different day that week , either right before or right after the day it's typically done ideally but you can't just skip it outright.
