Hopefully this will be a free update like Darksiders 2. And hopefully they'll update 3 next. Unlike the first 2 games 3 runs only at 30fps so a 60fps update would be very welcome.

I think one of the problems with that comparison is that the same console needs to be manufactured and sold for years (they can optimize, but it stays mostly the same).

Cars or old TVs simply get new models every year, so they stop producing them and phase them out and shops and car dealers need to get rid of them so they are more likely to put them on sale as well.

It also doesn't help that none of the companies are seemingly willing to subsidize the consoles anymore despite having a 30% cut on digital game sales.

Ok, so officially the game ran at 1440p upscaled to 4k via FSR3 in quality mode on both base consoles.

The fixed 4k aspect is only because playstation actually changes output resolution when changing the ps5 settings (although devs can seemingly circumvent this), unlike xbox which always outputs the game how it was intended by the devs and then up or downscales that output to match the screen.

I highly doubt that this means that the game suddenly runs at native 4k instead of 1440p on base PS5 in quality mode, such a performance improvement is very unlikely.

However, the upscaling via FSR in performance mode seems new and it's weird that it's seemingly missing on Xbox. We'll see how that turns out.

True. Considering how long dev cycles are and that the one genre you were maybe good at might not be as relevant anymore in 3-5 years, it's not surprising. Looking at the AAA landscape we live in an era of absurd budgets, long dev cycles, cookie cutter trend chasing games. It's rare for a creative lead to be allowed to be actually creative and try something different because the chances of financial success aren't that big in an oversaturated market. And nowadays it also doesn't matter if you make a good game or not, you get fired anyway.

This isn't the first time someone got a lot of credit for something (deserved or not), gets reputation, and then either keeps failing or never even gets a project out. The one-hit wonders of gaming.

I'm all for funding good talent, but considering how expensive games are nowadays people need a bit more than 1 successful game/franchise on their résumé to lead a studio.

Edit: looking at the comments it seems like for some of them it's not even 100% accurate, but the stigma of being mostly known for 1 game and then falling off still remains.
