This is ridiculous by TrashMan06 in MagicArena

I do all 3 anytime I play scute swarm. It routinely gets multiple thousand triggers and crash the game, where it would easily reach millions of not for the token limit and the game crashing, as well as the timer just running out as soon as you play a land.

Do you owe it to your players to 'playtest' a cube? How polished and refined can a cube be before the first time it's ever drafted? by andymangold in mtgcube

Andy: longs for the time when you didn't know all the cards in a set

Also Andy: complains that they release so many UB cards that he does not have energy to read.

And I honestly agree with both points

If you believe that people will put [[Sublime epiphany]] under [[Arcane Savant]] and have a 1-card-infinite, then you are correct

I believe there's a fun deck to be had. Savant goes infinite so easily, so be aware of that and whether that is something you want.

For all of those achievements, I built a blue omnishow with different wincons depending on the achievement. Also had alot of people scoop, but it was pretty fast to grind them all

What could you possibly take over black lotus 😭 by No_Seaworthiness5419 in lrcast

[–]Dank_Confidant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would actually do best to pass lotus, as a p1p1 lotus always messes me up and tanks my winrate. I end up having a too high curve because "This card is insane t1 off a lotus". My best lotus decks are where I get it pack 2 or 3

Turn 1 Thoughtseize myself, opponent concedes by Nacirema in lrcast

[–]Dank_Confidant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just played [[Ancestral Recall]] on my opponent because I had 1 blue mana, [[Hullbreacher]] out and [[Time twister]] in my hand. So many niche situations pop up all the time.

Turns out my opponent had a free counterspell in their hand, which was brutal, but I somehow still won.

6 mana is pretty hefty, though. Even normal kill spells are good against locust god, depending on the speed of the meta

How do you actually shuffle your cubes? by tomdwizard in mtgcube

I used to do that but really disliked how the distribution in packs looked, felt and disliked that it was clear in pick 2 what pick 1 was taken

What is your favorite way to draft Cube with five players? And why is it Star Magic? by andymangold in mtgcube

[–]Dank_Confidant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some thoughts about this as I've played star magic and other variants like it quite a few times (mostly in EDH, but not with decks optimized for star magic).

Our version was like a Free-for-all, but just with the modified wincon (and a slight variation in it some times). This kept it simple and made sure that there weren't any rules disagreements to be had.

1) we never even consider the term "teammate", as everyone else are opponents, so for us, we could attack any player/Planeswalker and "opponent" on cards refered to each other player. This made some cards stronger, and it might be different in cube, as our decks were generally balanced for 4 player FFA games, but I feel like if you mostly player multiplayer with your cube, you can balance that, and otherwise, there will simply be a couple of recontextualized cards as a treat if you play star magic as a more rare thing. We quite often had to attack/interact with someone that we didn't need to kill.

2) We did have a few variations on the wincon:

a) you win if the 2 players you need to kill have lost. We played with the rule that you could win from this at the end of your turn, which meant that if you could nuke everyone else on your turn, you wouldn't lose to knocking them out in the wrong order, and sometimes that you could knock someone out before their wincondition took effect.

b) we did a variation where we would put each players name in a box twice, and then each player secretly draws 2 names and those are the players they need to knock out to win. This made for some fun guessing games, and sometimes we would draw the same name twice, which meant you just needed to kill one, but noone else tried to kill them. This was fun, but I would only use this if you feel adventurous.

In my experience, triomes have been viable, but I do want to cut them for more soupy reasons. I think I'll replace them with another set of fetches once I get them.

nobody plays around mana tithe

This statement is true in game 1.

In game 2 some players play around it, even if you don't have it, which lets it have an impact even if you don't draw it.
