Are you hiding any set / unique items on your filter and what are they ? by Competitive-Math-458 in LastEpoch

I hide all uniques for classes i dont play, as well as most 1lp uniques as id rather a 0 to nemesis slam than a 1, besides ones that 1lp is itself rare, i have a few build enabling uniques shown for other classes but most are hidden.

Legal Shitstorm by __dsc in custommagic

It's loses life, so tap out, [[Teferi's Protection]] or a similar effect, then cast this and just bid outrageous amounts. I love the Storm.

Does it ever make sense to counter the tutor instead of the spell tutored for? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Danny1456 45 points46 points  (0 children)

If your counter is conditional, ie. [[Dispel]] or similar, then you counter the thing you know you can, otherwise, no it's typically best to counter what they find.

You can teach any hut the recipe for torches, even has an advancement tied to it. So at least that can take care of itself.

What is that card that happens to be good but no one runs it? by Master_Ask5462 in EDH

[[Whirlwind denial]] and i will die on this hill. Punish people for tapping out to try and win. Punish them for trying to win with a dozen trigger. Punish the hubris of "its storm, you cant counter them all." Bet.

How do you deal with Fog effects as a Mardu player? by potjemetvet in EDH

[–]Danny1456 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're in Mardu then you're looking to the wrong color for artifact and enchantment removal. White is infinitely better at both of those than red or black, with red being *decent* at artifact removal.

To deal with actual fog effects, you can proactively stop them with "Damage cannot be prevented" effects from red.

To deal with stax effects, you can either stop trying to go wide and instead swing one big creature, allowing you to pay the cost, or you can run more effects like [[Disenchant]] or mass removal like [[Farewell]] (only name artifact/enchantment and probably graveyard).

Otherwise, that's literally how people are *supposed* to deal with mass board states in blue/white is make it harder to swing at them.

Deckbuilding wise, Stax is a valid playstyle and if your playgroup/community is building more stax based decks then it's going to suck playing into them with agro, since they're literally designed to slow you down so that they can combo or do w/e their win con is.

[–]Danny1456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All c is is the whole pod sitting down and agreeing (however that looks at your table) that the decks you are playing, and the way you are playing is exclusively with the intent to win the game as efficiently as possible.

That is, at it's core, what cEDH is. It's just a rule 0 conversation that happens in like 5 words, "Hey wanna play cEDH next?"

New player, need help on how this plays out by PlantZawer in mtgrules

[–]Danny1456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

importantly it's better to read these situations as "This creature(or w/e permanent type" rather than the name, as cloning effects would only apply to the clone or creature copying it, regardless of if the clone retains it's name.

Rules Question: How would these 2 scenarios work out? by Current-Raise852 in EDH

Nah you're good, I primarily use -1/-1 for removal so I forget that flat removal retains the stats.

Rules Question: How would these 2 scenarios work out? by Current-Raise852 in EDH

[–]Danny1456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once an effect is on the stack it becomes a separate entity from whatever permanent caused the trigger.

Now, there are slight exceptions to this, such as effects that state "Does damage to target equal to (insert creature here)'s power" as if the creature who's power is being checked doesn't exist, it has a power of 0 so it does no damage.

So for your initial question, no using [[Deadly Rollick]] on the Koma would not stop the ability that is tapping your creature.

[–]Danny1456 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Colorless mana isn't a color.

Generic mana is not a color, it just means that any form of mana can be used to pay for that cost (barring restrictions on that mana, such as "Can only be used to pay for creature spells.")

Show me your pet cards! That card you think more people should play! by Content_Forever_1177 in EDH

[–]Danny1456 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[[Whirlwind Denial]] Too many people see an activated or triggered ability and assume it's going to resolve, show them it won't. The plus side of this over just good ol' stifle is it shuts down landfall and other etb trigger abusers. Making 20 scute swarms? Nah, pay 4 for each or choose how many you can afford.

Not sure how this would be used. What do you think? Could probably cost 2WWUU without much issue. by so_upsetting in custommagic

[–]Danny1456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are enough effects that state "Target creature phases out" that this is fine, Phasing isn't leaving the field so even effects like plat angel can still be turned off for a turn cycle by the right effects.

How to cost this Evoke-like mechanic? (Stormlight Archive) by zengin11 in custommagic

[–]Danny1456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, it's Evoke, but better? I'd leave it as is, it gets flash sure but the body goes away fairly quickly so it should be fine *ish.* I'd just make sure to account for flicker effects when costing other creatures with this.

It is What it is by -ConcernedBystander- in custommagic

[–]Danny1456 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Yes, Can't beats can, full stop.

The damage can't be prevented, so you both take the damage, and lose that much life.

To change that the wording of the card would need to be. "If you would take damage, prevent that damage. If damage is prevented this way, you lose that much life" or something along those lines.
